2025 Future Games: Alabama Quick Hits, Corner Infielders

Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

EMERSON, GA – The 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games were held July 22-27 at the premier LakePoint Sports Complex, attracting over 400 college coaches from around the country to scout the nation’s top uncommitted talent in the 2026-2029 classes.

Prospects from Alabama rose to the occasion, putting together an impressive performance during both the workout showcase and three days of high-level competition.

In this piece, we take a closer look at some of the top performances from Alabama corner infielders who stood out against the elite-level competition. Continue to check back over the course of the next few days, as we dive into each position and their respective Alabama standouts from the event.

Future Games: Class of 2027

+ Few prospects across the event had the type of breakout showing compared to 3B Dalton Dardin (Grissom, 2027) this past week. Dardin, a 6-foot, 159-pound left-handed bat, possesses a lean, projectable build with long levers in the frame that are controlled well in the swing. The left-handed swing is smooth and repeatable, showing the ability to barrel different pitches in different parts of the zone and utilize the whole field in his current line-drive approach. There is some power upside in the profile as he continues to develop, which was flashed during BP with some easy pull-side juice showing. Will stick on the left side of the infield defensively. Hit tool continuously shined throughout the event with multiple hits against high-level competition.

+ 3B Connor Greb (Spain Park, 2027) is another talented left-handed bat in the 2027 class who continued to increase his stock throughout the course of the week. A 6-foot, 186-pounder, Greb has an athletic build with some present strength scattered and more on the way. The left-handed swing features an upward path through the zone and does a good job of keeping the barrel in the zone for a while. Subtle actions in the load and rotates hard, allowing him to generate strength from lower-half. Handled velocity well with multiple hits on the weekend. Has adjustability in the swing packed into an all-fields approach.

+ INF Charlie Taaffe (Vestavia Hills, 2027) continued to flash quality tools during the workout and in-game facing some high-level arms. A 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete, Taaffe has some "gamer" to his profile and while the stats weren't as loud as others in the box score, he still found a way to make an impact in a variety of ways. Looking to get under the baseball and lift with impact to the pull-side, the right-hander works the barrel on a level path with efficient rhythm to the operation. He uses a controlled stride and shifts weight forward in the load, and has a strong incorporation of the lower-half in the swing. Had a double during gameplay and made a highlight reel defensive play at SS on a back-hand sliding play where used the turf on the throw to get the runner at 1B. Also ran a 6.68 60-yard dash during the workout. Multi-sport player with QB background.

+ 1B Evan Taylor (Spain Park, 2027) showcased a physical right-handed swing that took some quality at-bats in-game throughout the week. A 6-foot, 200-pounder, Taylor carries a physical presence to the box and pairs it with a loose, whippy right-handed barrel that works on an upward path through contact. There's easy strength at the point of contact and really gets into the lower-half strength well. Mostly pull-side approach that looks to impact to the gaps. Has loose hands with some feel for the barrel and big power upside. Had a quality single to CF during gameplay.

Junior Future Games: Class of 2029

+ 1B/RHP Coston Mahan (Florence, 2029) continues to add to his case of being one of, if not the, top prospects in Alabama's loaded 2029 class. An advanced frame at 6-foot-2, 234-pounds with durable strength, Mahan possesses impressive impact skills and a heavy pull-side barrel that fits the mold of a middle-of-the-order, run-producing bat. Starting slightly-open, Mahan works back square using a simple load and sinks into the lower-half to generate force in the swing. The barrel works upward through the zone with massive power projection and already some showing. Had the biggest swing of the week in gameplay, launching a no-doubt solo home run into the trees in LF, coming off at a 97.4 mph EV. Quality two-way traits sitting in the mid-80s with the FB on the mound. Equally high upside on both sides of the ball.

+ 3B/RHP Land Sharpless (Trinity Presbyterian, 2029) is another highly-skilled infielder who impressed on both sides of the ball for Team Alabama. Listed at 6-foot, 161-pounds, Sharpless has an athletic build with still plenty of projection and room to add down the road. From the right side of the plate, the swing stays smooth and connected throughout producing a line-drive approach that consistently sprays the ball to all fields. Showed adjustability throughout the week being able to handle and drive pitches in different parts of the zone. Also worked in the low-80s on the mound with a quality CB in a four-inning shutout. Consistent in-game performer who will only continue to get better.

+ 1B Taylor White (Hartselle, 2029) will be another projectable right-handed bat to follow in the years to come. Listed at 5-foot-11, 166-pounds, White has a lean build with still loads of physical maturation to come. Tall, upright stance starting slighlty-open. Loose, whippy barrel from the right side of the plate that shows some ability to impact already. Clean barrel through contact. Had quality in-game at-bats, highlighted by a big two-RBI double down the LF line during bracket play.

+ 1B JB Fowler (Corner, 2029) certainly passes the eye test with a 6-foot-4, 230-pound frame and was all over the barrel during bracket play for Team Southeast. In a perfect 3-for-3 showing at the plate, Fowler showed the ability to get on-plane early and aggressively hunt FBs early in the count with the intent to do damage gap-to-gap. Hands stay inside on the swing while showing a solid feel for the barrel. Also has some two-way potential and upside on both sides of the ball.
