We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on an impressive player who is currently amongst our 2027 California rankings after a strong Sophomore showing on the Prep Baseball California circuit and with a solid high school season. We are looking at SoCal '27 OF Asher Bunnin from Harvard Westlake High School in Studio City, Calif.. Bunnin appeared twice on the Prep Baseball California event platform during the 2025 year starting with a strong showing at the Central California Preseason All State event and then put together a strong three days at the 2025 California State Games.
During his 2025 spring at Harvard Westlake Bunning earned his way into a consistent role for the Wolverines program. After a strong summer showing will head back in his JR. year to compete for an even more prominent role in their lineup/defensive plans as the program focuses in on a run at the Mission League title and CIF-SS playoff run.
Bunnin has demonstrated his intriguing offensive toolset across his various Prep Baseball California events. A RH hitter Bunnin starts with a leg lift on the forward move bringing his knee to belt height before taking a controlled move into the launch position. His hands remain relatively quiet with a bat waggle and small barrel tip during the load separating from his lower 1/2 well in the operation. Bunnin uses his hips effectively with a scissor kick lower half move to maintain direction while his hands work directly to the baseball with a compact barrel path into the zone and leverage through contact. The metrics for Asher are solid across the board including the ability to generate torque in his swing through his lower 1/2 with a peak rotational acceleration of 12.7 Gs while flashing present quickness in his hands with a 20.1 MPH peak hand speed that combine into solid present bat speeds up to 69.3 MPH. The twitchy quick operation for Bunnin produces some interesting batted ball data including a peak exit velocity of 95.9 MPH while averaging 87.9 MPH with a max distance of 371' showing sneaky HR power to the pull side and middle to oppo doubles power. Bunnin presently shows the consistent feel for his barrel including a 73% sweet spot rate.
Bunnin is compact, but athletically built at 5'9 154.3 lbs. presently and has the room on his frame to add strength to his wiry build at present in the 15-20 lbs range as he continues to mature while maintaining his dynamic athleticism. Bunnin is an explosive runner who features burst off the line (1.55 10 yard split), ability to get to top speed quickly (3.6 30 yard split with 21.2 MPH max run speed) and ability to maintain his speed over distance with a 6.5 second 60 yard sprint time. The athleticism profiles to a potential future in CF for Bunnin who has a solid present arm at 83 MPH from the OF to be a strong defender at a premium spot.
With a solid performance from his Soph. year high school stats, live looks by our scouting staff, event performances and more there are several reasons for college programs to be following Bunnin for their 2027 class.
