VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a talented player from the 2026 class who has put together consistent performances over the spring and summer. We are looking at the Central Valley '26 2B/SS Nate Lopez from Clovis North High School in Clovis, Calif.. Park made his first appearance on the Prep Baseball California platform in 2025 this summer with a standout showing at the Sacramento Summer ID in the early part of the summer.

The LH hitting Lopez starts with a simple controlled load getting his weight and hands back before smoothly making his forward move to get to launch before using a quick hip turn with a compact hand path to deliver the barrel efficiently to contact. The consistent and high quality swing for Lopez combines with a strong feel for timing in his approach during batting practice to produce max exit velocites up to 96 MPH with a max distance of 315' profiling to a line to line doubles profile that could fit at the top of a lineup. The deeper metrics provided by Trackman during batting practice show off the feel for his offensive profile that Lopez possesses including a 69% fly ball/line drive rate.

Lopez is compact, but athletically built at 5'9 155.4 lbs. presently and has the room on his frame to add strength in the 10-20 lbs range as he continues to mature while maintaining his athleticism to stay up the middle where he is a solid defender. Showing strong athletic traits Lopez posted a 60 time at 6.87 while showing ability to build speed over time that gives him a strong 2B/CF potential profile as a defender where his bat would suit either spot going forward.

The LH hitter is primed to take over a key spot in the Clovis North lineup during his SR. on the back of a solid JR. campaign in the ultra competitive TRAC league in the Central Valley. With a solid overall foundation of tools to his profile and the upside to continue improving Lopez is a high quality name to dive in on for college programs looking for athletic LH hitters in the 2026 class.

Scouting Report

4/30/25

Lopez caught my eye when I first started watching him in BP, he’s got a sweet lefty swing and stays really compact, with good extension through the baseball. He’s got a middle-middle approach and he flashed some pop to the gaps, and got some good backspin on the ball. Not the biggest guy on the team but he plays hard and he’s a smooth middle infielder. During the game against the Bears, Lopez got off a bunch of nice swings resulting in going 1-3 on the day with two balls smoked to right field that were caught. His last out, the right fielder made an unbelievable catch that robbed Lopez of a hit, probably a double. Lopez is one of those players to where once he gets more physical and some more reps he will be in good shape to keep playing at the next level. We will see if he will slide out over to the left side when Prieto graduates next season.  - Hank LoForte Associate Director NorCal
