River Run Fall Games: Quick Hits, Catchers
August 19, 2025
NORTHPORT, AL - On Sunday, August 17th, the River Run Fall Games highlighted Opening Weekend at the newly opened River Run Park in Northport, AL, the new home for Prep Baseball Tournaments in Alabama. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2026-2030 classes. These players went through an pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, defensive workout, Vizual Edge testing, and more. Pitchers were able to throw simulated innings during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.
Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we dive into some of the top catching prospects in attendance from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards and individual scouting reports on each player present at the event.

+ C Mason Gandy (Guntersville, 2027) was near the top of most statistical categories during the event and showcased some quality tools to build on for the future. A lean 5-foot-10, 159-pounder, the junior backstop possesses a fluid, well-connected right-handed swing that flashed quality gap-to-gap pop during his round of BP. Peaking at 99.1 mph EV, Gandy showcases quick hands in the box and rotates well through impact in the swing. Behind the plate, the catcher led the event with 1.88-2.00 pop times and an 80 mph C velocity while showing a quick transfer and athletic footwork on the exchange. Also clocked a 6.99 60-yard dash.

+ C/RHP Mick Tyrrell (Bob Jones, 2026) did a bit of everthing during the event as a two-way prospect and exceled on both sides of the ball. A lean 6-foot-1, 175-pounder with room to add, Tyrrell features a loose, level right-handed swing that shows some separation in the load and stays short throughout. More line-drive contact working back up the middle during his round of BP, peaking at a 99.1 mph EV. Also starred from the crouch, posting 1.90-2.16 pop times and a 79 mph C velocity. On the mound, he has equal upside and ability, sitting 83-85 mph with typical arm-side run working from different arm slots. SL ranges 74-76 mph showing late, deceptive break and working well off the FB.
