On August 24th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Last Chance Summer ID at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, IL. 52 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.
Today, we will be looking at the prospects that stood out to our staff within this Quick Hits story.
TWO-WAYS
+ INF/RHP Dominic Talaga (Stagg, 2027) showed to be one of the better right-handed hitters in attendance. He presents an athletic, high-waisted 6-foot, 180-pound frame with some present strength throughout. During batting practice, he showed quick hands (avg. 21.9 mph) and present bat speed (avg. 71.6 mph). Talaga was on the barrel throughout his round, leading the event in average exit velocity (95.1 mph) and he also hit the third-farthest ball for the event at 368 feet. Talaga also impressed on the mound, where he showed a simple and controlled delivery. He utilized a full, quick arm action from a ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat 81-82.8 mph with an average horizontal movement of 16.7 inches (18.6 inches max). Talaga’s changeup sat 73-73.8 mph with an average horizontal movement of 19.2 inches. He rounded out his three-pitch mix with a curveball that sat 69.8-71.6 mph with downer action. The pitch had an average induced vertical break of 1.3 inches and an average horizontal movement of -2.8 inches (-7.3 inches max).Talaga had a breakout performance during the event and is a name to keep an eye on.

INF/RHP Dominic Talaga (Stagg, 2027) is an athletic two-way that came away as one of the biggest winners of the event.

+ INF/RHP Mason Almazan (Providence Catholic, 2028) had arguably the top all-around showing of the event. Alamazan is listed with an athletic 5-foot-9, 153-pound frame with room to add strength. At the plate, the right-handed batter has a balanced setup with a smooth load and stride. He has loose, athletic hands with a long uphill bat path while elevating hard contact. He had an average exit velocity of 82.6 mph (91.3 mph max EV) while having a max batted ball distance of 350 feet. Defensively, the infielder played with natural feel for the position with soft hands while posting an infield velocity of 84 mph. On the mound, the right-hander operated with a simple, controlled delivery while having a full, loose arm action from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 80.7-82.8 mph while topping out at 83.4 mph. Almazan showed a curveball that sat 67.5-70.6 mph with downer action and depth. He rounded out his pitch-mix with a changeup that sat 74.1-76.8 mph with fading action.

+ INF/LHP Edgar Berge (Maine East, 2026) is a physical left/left uncommitted prospect to follow. Presenting a 6-foot-5, 242-pound frame, Berge showed strong hands at the plate, paired with an aggressive swing that generated natural lift and hard elevated contact - while leading the event in max exit velocity (100.8 mph). He also showed to have natural feel for the first base position on the defensive side of the ball, reaching 82 mph from across the diamond. Berge also showed loud stuff on the mound. The left-handed pitcher has an up-tempo delivery while having a long, loose arm action from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 82.3-83.7 mph while playing at the top of the zone. He showed a firm slider that sat 78.7-80.9 mph with late actions. Berge also showed a changeup that sat 77.2-79.4 mph with sinking actions.

1B/LHP Edgar Berge (Maine East, 2026) is a physical uncommitted two-way that showed well on Sunday.

+ INF/RHP Michael Foley (Prospect, 2027) was on the barrel during batting practice and ran the third-fastest 60 for the event (6.86). A lean 5-foot-11, 168-pound right-handed hitter, showed strong/quick hands (T23.6 mph max hand speed) paired with a flat path that created jump off the barrel during BP (T95.6 mph max EV). Foley also displayed natural and athletic actions on the infield that should allow him to stick up the middle moving forward. He also led the event in the RSI test (2.57), which measures the explosive strength of a prospect. On the mound, Foley showed a loose, quick arm action from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 78-81 mph while locating it well to his arm-side. Foley showed a curveball that sat 68-69 mph with late, sharp break. He rounded out his pitch-mix with a changeup that sat in the mid-70s with heavy fade.
POSITION PLAYERS
+ C/OF Hayven Gamboa (Mount Carmel, 2028) had an athletic showing on both sides of the ball. Standing at a twitchy 5-foot-9, 138-pounds, Gamboa looked comfortable at both defensive positions he participated at. Behind the dish, he showed quick feet out of the crouch and reliable transfers that led to a pop time range of 1.94-2.03. In the outfield, he had natural reads on balls in the air, and displayed easy actions throughout, while attacking the ball. He posted the second-best bullet from the outfield for the event at 84 mph. Offensively, the right-handed hitter had one of the easier rounds of BP, showing loose and athletic hands with an easy and balanced swing, while using the whole field throughout his round.
+ INF Joe Valenza (Plainfield North, 2027) came away a winner from the event, following a quality showing during batting practice. He stands at a high-waisted 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with more to come in the future. The left-handed hitter showed a loose swing that worked naturally uphill while working gap-to-gap throughout his round.
+ INF Andrew Hoffman (Huron, 2027) was a Michigan prospect in attendance who showed well both with the bat and defensively throughout the day. Standing at a strong 5-foot-10, 174-pounds, the right-handed hitter showed loose hands paired with an aggressive swing while flashing the ability to create hard contact with backspin. Hoffman averaged 91.8 mph off the bat, peaking at 96.7 mph. Defensively, he showed natural actions up the middle with soft hands and rangy movements, paired with an arm that played accurately from multiple slots and on the move.

+ INF Andrew Schroeder (Lisle, 2026) is an uncommitted right-handed bat to follow from the event. Presenting a 6-foot-3, 236-pound frame with some present strength throughout, he had a fluid swing that stayed on-plane while creating hard gap-to-gap contact, averaging 90.2 mph off the bat (T95.5).
+ OF Grady White (Bloomington Central Catholic, 2029) is an incoming-freshman that showed well with both the bat and the glove. The left-handed hitter showed a simple/repeatable swing that worked line drives to the middle of the field. Defensively, he attacks the ball, fields cleanly off his front foot, and showed to be comfortable playing the ball in the air.
PITCHERS
+ LHP Santino Imhof (Beecher, 2027) impressed at his first Prep Baseball event as he showed feel for his three-pitch mix. Imhof is listed with a strong 5-foot-11, 174-pound frame. The left-hander operates from a controlled, simple delivery with a drop/drive approach. He has a long, quick arm action from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 81-82.6 mph with straight actions. Imhof mixed in a curveball that sat 68.6-71 mph with an 11/5 shape and late bite. The pitch has an average horizontal movement of 10 inches (12.2 inches max) and an average induced vertical break of -6.9 inches. He rounded out his pitch-mix with a changeup that sat 67.5-72.9 mph while keeping it low in the zone. Imhof is an interesting arm to keep an eye on going forward.
+ RHP Alexander Aridas (Maine South, 2027) showcased an easy delivery with his four-pitch mix. Lean 6-foot, 133-pound frame with room to add strength. The right-hander has a simple, easy delivery with a long, loose, quick arm action from a ¾ slot. Aridas mixed in a four-seam and a two-seam fastball that each sat 80.5-82.3 mph while topping out at 83.1 mph. His slider sat 72.2-74.1 mph with a 10/4 shape while having a late bite. The pitch had an average horizontal movement of -4.3 inches (-5.4 inches max) and an average induced vertical break of -2.3 inches (-3.2 inches max). Aridas also showed a changeup that sat 75.7-76.6 mph with heavy fade. The pitch had an average horizontal movement of 14.4 inches (16.9 inches max). Aridas is a guy that can continue to impress as he adds more strength to his frame.
+ RHP Joaquin Fabregas (Maine South, 2027) showcased advanced feel for his four-pitch mix. Fabregas is listed with an athletic 5-foot-7, 154-pound frame with room to add strength. The right-hander operates from a simple, controlled delivery with a drop/drive approach. He has a short, quick arm action from a ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat 81.2-82 mph while playing with arm-side run. The pitch had an average induced vertical break of 16.5 inches (20.3 inches max). His curveball sat 62.3-65.1 mph with depth while having an average horizontal movement of -9.9 inches (-13.3 inches max) and an average induced vertical break of -9.1 inches (-13.5 inches max). Fabregas also showed a slider that sat 68.9-70.7 mph with a late break. The pitch has an average horizontal movement of -10.1 inches (-13.3 inches max). He rounds out his pitch mix with a changeup that sits 72.3-74.5 mph with fading action. The pitch had an average horizontal movement of 15.8 inches.
+ LHP Adam Redmond (Lincoln-Way West, 2028) showed very easy movements on the mound with upside. Redmond is listed with an athletic 5-foot-11, 148-pound frame with room to add strength. The left-hander operated from a simple, controlled delivery with a tall/fall approach. He has a long, loose arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat 80.2-82.2 mph while topping out at 83.3 and playing up in the zone. His curveball sat 68-69.6 mph with a late break. The pitch had an average horizontal break of 7.8 inches (10.5 inches max) and a max induced vertical break of -9.5 inches. Redmond also showed a changeup that sat 70.8-72.3 mph with an average horizontal movement of -11.7 inches (-15 inches max). Redmond will be a name to keep on eye on in the coming years.

+ RHP Noah Tumpane (Naperville North, 2027) gave an upside look during the event. Tumpane is listed with a strong 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame. The right-hander operates from a stretch-only delivery with a drop/drive approach. He has a short, quick arm action from a ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat 79.2-82.7 mph while having an average induced vertical break of 15.7 inches (17.3 inches max). Tumpane showed a changeup that sat 74-75.2 mph with heavy fade. The pitch had an average horizontal movement of 14.4 inches (17.6 inches max). He mixed in a curveball that sat 71.8-73 mph with 12/6 shape and downer action. He rounded out his pitch-mix with a cutter that sat 75.3-76.1 mph with a late bite.
