VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months as the fall schedule begins to ramp up for scout ball, travel basball, high school scrimmage season and our Prep Baseball California series of events.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on an impressive player who is currently amongst our 2027 California rankings after a strong Sophomore showing on the Prep Baseball California circuit and with a solid high school season. We are looking at SoCal '27 SS/2B Trevor Rivas from Maranatha High School in Pasadena, Calif.. Rivas made his first appearance on the Prep Baseball California platform in fall of 2024 at the SoCal Top Prospect Underclass event which earned him an invite to the Preseason All State series where he attended our NorCal Preaseason All State event then on the heels of his solid Soph. season attended the Future Games Tryout: Malibu event where he made a strong case for a spot on Team SoCal before heading off to the summer travel ball circuit and then a strong showing for myself on the opening weekend of the 2025 SoCal Scouts Assocation Scout League at Pepperdine on Aug. 30th.
During his 2025 spring at Maranatha High School Rivas earned his way into a prominent role for the Minutemen with appearances in 28 of their 29 games totaling 96 plate appearances and 83 official at bats. For the year Rivas slashed .253/.330/.373 in his time which were solid numbers in a Soph. season on the varsity level with 21 hits, four doubles, two home runs, and 16 runs scored while topping the team with 19 RBIs on the year. Rivas was able to draw nine walks on the spring just under 10% of hit total plate appearances while stealing four bases. He showed the flashes of his ability during the spring and gaining comfort playing on the varsity level against more advanced pitching prepared him for the strong summer Rivas put together and has him on an upward trend heading into his JR. year as one of the names to know in the 2027 class of up the middle defenders in Southern California with a rising offensive skill set.
Rivas has demonstrated his strong offensive toolset across his various Prep Baseball California events. A RH hitter Rivas starts with a quiet toe tap load to get to launch early or on time with a quick turn through his hips and ability to stay in the ground with his legs to stay behind the baseball. His hands work on a direct path to the baseball while working his barrel inside the ball and slightly uphill to produce leverage through the middle of the field while flashing loft to hi pull side. The metrics for Rivas are solid to strong across the board including the ability to generate torque in his swing through his lower 1/2 with a peak rotational acceleration of 14.4 Gs while using quickness in his hands with a 21.8 MPH peak hand speed that combine into strong present bat speeds up to 73.3 MPH. The consistency of the operation for Trevor with a solid feel for timing to reach launch and be on time with his barrel at contact during batting practice has produced max exit velocites up to 100.1 MPH with a max distance of 372' at the FGT: Malibu event. The deeper metrics provided by Trackman during batting practice for Rivas show a strong feel for hitting the ball in the air with 66-70% fly ball/line drive rates that trend slightly higher to the line drive than the fly ball, but not significantly. Trevor has produced 40-60% sweet spot rates with upwards of 40% hard hit rates and will only continue to get better as he develops going forward.
Rivas is athletically built at 5'11 169.1 lbs. presently and has the room on his frame to add strength to his wiry build at present in the 15-25 lbs range as he continues to mature while maintaining his athleticism to potentially stay up the middle. Showing strong athletic traits Trevor has run 60 times in the 6.81 range while showing burst in the first 10 yards with a 1.55 split that profiles to stay up the middle with his burst. He plays with rhythm in his footwork, soft hands and feel for angles/instincts on the dirt including low hips that show a potential to stick at SS/2B, but will need to add arm strength as he matures to remain at SS, otherwise he can solidly handle 2B or potentially 3B.
With a solid performance from his Soph. year high school stats, live looks by our scouting staff, event performances and more there are several reasons for college programs to be following Rivas for their 2027 class.
