Today we release a late summer update to the 2027 class, our third update of the year. This update has the class expanding from the Top 125 to Top 150. Below we highlight a few players that our staff had an opportunity to gather evaluations on this spring during the high school season.

2027 Rankings Stories:

New Faces
Rankings Risers

There were more than twenty-five new players moving into the Top 150, as well as plenty of movement throughout the rankings. Today we highlight a handful of players in the Top 50.

+ Sam Szefc - Blacksburg HS - SS

Maybe the biggest winner of any Team Virginia player from Future Games, Szefc showed his versatility, present abilities, and his future potential during that four day stretch. He is as legitimate of a two-way guy at the next level as we have seen in the past few years. Two sport standout (QB1) that seems to be able to slow the game down a bit in the box and on the mound. The Blacksburg HS talent had three hits in his first three at bats, including a backside double in his first AB. It is not a big impact type of bat, but similar to older brother John Michael, he has a mature approach and takes what is given, using the whole field. On the mound it is a lot of the same. He is under control, has some present stuff that allows him to be succesful, and competes.

Why the jump? Because while most of the the raw tools alone grade more average to slightly above, it is the combination of his tools, production, and consistent presence between the lines that give Szefc a bright future.

+ Graydon Ambrose - First Colonial HS - C

While it is not a huge jump, it is considerable because of where he was to where he is now. Ambrose is one of the best hitters in the 757, regardless of class, whose bat to ball skills, combination of present/future impact at the plate, and higher end ability to throw give him a lot of traction as the recruitment begins to take shape. Younger features with a thicker and durable frame that stacks up at 6-foot, 213-pounds. Ambrose moves up six spots, from #9 to #3 mostly because of his continued success at the plate. Improvements in the quality of contact, willingness to work counts with some discipline, and his improved arm strength behind the plate are all features that made him a name to know at Future Games and it should only continue to get better.

+ Brady McCormack - Monacan HS - RHP

For us, this is a fairly fresh and new arm for our staff. Some limited looks on McCormack made it tough for our staff to get evaluations on McCormack, but this spring and summer certainly changed that. In the spring we saw a projectable, somewhat raw right hander that worked in the mid 80's and showed some future potential. More than two months later, we see McCormack working 88-90 in his outing and spinning a firmer slider and an average changeup. Fast forward a few weeks later, McCormack is up to 91 on a few occasions and continuing to advance his position with his above average breaking ball. All of those things, and an appearance at the Underclass Top Prospect Games, afforded McCormack the opportunity to compete at the 2025 Future Games. The 6-foot-2 right hander got the ball in game one and handled business. He struck out three in two innings of work while working his usual 89-91. All of these things considered, there is future starter potential with McCormack, there is future velo in the frame and movements, as well as his present ability to land a quality breaking ball and actually pitch. That is why the Richmond area right hander jumped just over fifty spots to settle inside the Top 10.

+ Christian Gomez - Battlefield HS - OF

Plenty of helium right now with this junior outfielder. Above average run to go along with some present and more future power production from the left side of the plate. Gomez was on a tear this summer, producing some serious in game power at the plate, and did not show any major swing and miss concerns. It is a shorter and slightly uphill path at the plate with a high finish. Above average bat and hand speed at the plate, as well as possesses above average rotational tendencies that allow him to get the barrel through in a tight window and has the tools to help cover velo and a wide range of arm talent. The Battlefield HS product rises more than fifteen spots in the rankings. The power potential, frame, and run tool all give plenty of future promise for Gomez. Gomez was the first Future Games player off the board, announcing his commitment to UNC.
