Uncommitted spotlights are meant to showcase players that Prep Baseball Scouts felt showed standout tools, large improvements in overall game, or potential upside moving forward. College coaches and recruiters should be sure to keep an eye on these prospects in the coming months.

This week, we spotlight '26 INF/RHP Carson Downing. The Caldera High School prospect was seen most recently at the Bend Summer ID this June.

A 6'3 athlete, Downing's showcase was highlighted by exit velocities into the mid-90's and a well-rounded look overall. Below is a complete breakdown of the player, including scouting reports and video from the event.

Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-3, 162-pounds.
Delivery: Sets in offset stretch position from 1B side of the rubber. Wider base with hands set at the chin. Short wind with slight bend in knees. Front hip turns away from target and leads through extension. Controlled decel and finish.
Arm Action: RH. Higher arm action with quick fire action. High 3/4 slot release.
FB: T78, 73-77 mph. T1846, 1774 average rpm.
CB: 66-67 mph.
SL: 66-66 mph. T1651, 1591 average rpm.
CH: 68-69 mph. T1450, 1376 average rpm.
ATH: 7.37 runner in the 60. 1.65 and 4.00 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 17.70 max vertical.

Body: 6-3, 162-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Weight stacked slightly over rear leg with wider base in stance. Hands tight to frame with barrel stacked vertically over rear shoulder. Short stride load as hands retract. Rotates quickly through the zone. Barrel gets on plane early and stays through the zone well. Firm front side at contact with tight two-handed finish. 65.4 mph bat speed with 20 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 84.1 mph. 347' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-76 mph. 3/4 slot throws with high gloveside follow. Can manipulate release slot when needed.
Defense: Narrow base, sinks into lower half pre-pitch. Bounce in step with controlled actions on GB approach. Fields and fires with upright finish.
