VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on an interesting 2026 player who showed out with strong spring of high school performance and was impressive in multiple looks for the Prep Baseball California staff this summer. We are looking at SoCal '26 OF/RHP Joshua Turner from Western Christian High School in Upland, Calif.. Turner made his first appearance on the Prep Baseball California platform this summer with a standout showing at the Central California Summer ID event which combined with his loud spring high schoolperformance brought him a 2025 California State Games invite where he put together a strong performance over the three days of the event (workout + three games).
Turner showed off some loud tools on the offensive side of the game across each event. A RH hitter he starts with a deep hand set and barrel tip behind his head towards CF. The set up works into a hover load with his front side while reaching the launch position with consistency to his timing. Turner he shows explosiveness in his swing/turn beginning first with his hands which work through zone up to 24.7 MPH while generating explosive bat speeds of up to 87.1 MPH which combine to produce loud hard contact. Joshua fits a power over pure hit profile with the explosiveness of his swing and the Trackman batted ball data results support this including a 103.7 MPH max on his exit velocity while showing a 75% hard hit rate (balls hit over 90 MPH) with an average exit velocity of 93.2 MPH. Turner has been effective at putting the baseball in the air with authority during batting practice with 63-83% fly ball/line drive rates across the two events.
His stats from his JR. season at Western Christian back up the potential he presents as a RH hitting OF including a slash line of .468/.564/.919 over 22 games played with 78 plate appearances and 62 official at bats. Of the 29 total hits Turner produced in 2025 12 of them went for extra bases with three doubles, two triples and seven homers while driving in 21 runs and scoring another 26. The length of Turner's swing can produce some issues for strikeouts with 14 during the spring, but his discipline at the plate helped him to draw 14 walks fitting his power profile. His slash line stats all lead the Fightin Lancers as did his homers, triples, RBIs, and run scored while for good measure his 11 stolen bases were good for third on the team.
Joshua is sturdily built at 6'3 197 lbs. presently and has the room to polish his frame in the future for additional strength. His athletic profile is strong having posted 60 times in the 6.93-7.05 range over his two events with ability to build speed as he moves. His arm strength is loud at present reaching 91 MPH on his OF throws with carry and flashes of accuracy his defensive profile looks suited for a long term future in RF where his powerful offensive toolset profiles well.
Turner adds an interesting two-way potential as a RHP who has arm speed and the foundation of solid stuff, but can improve his overall pitchability profile. Turner reached 86.3 MPH on his FB during his Central CA Summer ID bullpen showing spin rates above 2100 RPMs from a riding shape that had 15.3" of average IVB. He backed up the FB with a 68-71 MPH SLD that spins at 2200+ RPMS and has a sweeper type shape with between 14-17" of horizontal break between Central CA Summer ID and State Games and showed a 75-78 MPH CHG during his bullen at Central CA Summer ID. Turner threw 19.2 innings during the spring season and showed swing and miss stuff with 30 Ks on the year, but control can be an issue at present with 24 BBs on the spring. The potential is there for the righthander, but polish will be necessary to reach it.
Overall, the smaller school product from the Inland Empire Turner has the kind of tools to be a college level RH hitting OF who plays strong to impact defense in RF while adding thump to the middle of lineup and for good measure presents an interesting RHP potential. Colleges would be well served to take a look at this two-way product for their 2026 recruiting classes.
