River Run Fall Games: Quick Hits, Infielders

Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

NORTHPORT, AL - On Sunday, August 17th, the River Run Fall Games highlighted Opening Weekend at the newly opened River Run Park in Northport, AL, the new home for Prep Baseball Tournaments in Alabama. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2026-2030 classes. These players went through an pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, defensive workout, Vizual Edge testing, and more. Pitchers were able to throw simulated innings during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we dive into some of the top infielder prospects in attendance from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards and individual scouting reports on each player present at the event.

+ SS/OF Austin Kightlinger (Northside, 2027) emerged as a clear-cut winner from the Future Games last month and has garnered significant interest from some high-level Division 1 programs since. Continuing to boost his stock heading into the off-season, the 5-foot-11, 164-pounder continues to flat hit from the left side of the plate boasting one of the best hit tools in the class. The junior has been a consistent in-game performer during the summer circuit using a left-handed swing that shows an innate feel for the barrel packed into an all-fields approach. The tools are present, running a 6.96 60-yard dash, working up to 89 mph across the INF, and peaking at a 95.1 mph EV with consistent low-90 exits during a BP. Has positional versatility being able to play on the dirt and grass. Football background as a standout WR. High-level name to follow.

+ 3B Cole Spanier (Bob Jones, 2026) came onto the scene this past spring serving as a key run-producer for the Patriots in the middle of the order and has continued to make a name for himself as a physical uncommitted right-handed bat. Listed at 6-foot-2, 242-pounds, Spanier has premium physicality to his right-handed swing that features easy pull-side thump while looking to elevate the baseball for slug. He possesses easy bat speed and incoporates the strength well in the profile, which was evidenced with a top EV of 97.1 mph during his round of BP. A corner infielder defensively, the senior also showed the arm strength in the workout topping at 90 mph across, which led the event. A talented middle-of-the-order uncommitted 2026 bat to know.

+ SS Judd Sanford (Northside, 2026) highlights another key returner for a Rams' squad that should be very talented in 2026. An integral part of last season's success, Sanford is an athletic 5-foot-8, 163-pound right-handed hitter who shows a smooth swing and a current line-drive approach at the plate. Features an early, simple stride for timing to allow him to be on-time for each swing, and works the barrel on a clean, easy path through contact. Clocked a 7.12 60-yard dash, and peaked at a 95.0 mph EV while averaging 90.2 mph during his round of BP.

+ SS Cohen Thompson (Scottsboro, 2026) is another under-the-radar uncommitted infielder in Alabama's 2026 class who continues to show the strides he's made over the past year. A lean, athletic 6-foot, 177-pounder, Thompson has a simple right-handed operation in the box that continuously peppered the middle of the field with firm line drives in his round of BP, peaking at a 97.0 mph EV. The barrel shows some present lag and stays flat through the zone with consistent two-handed finishes and above-average bat speed in the right-handed swing. Also a skilled defender with some range on the dirt. Clocked a 7.13 60-yard dash during the workout, as well.

+ SS Aiden DeRamus (Thompson, 2027) showed one of the smoother swings from the event during an impressive round of BP to get the day started. A 5-foot-9, 167-pounder, the Alabama State recruit shows efficient rhythm to the left-handed operation and stays loose and relaxed throughout. Features a controlled leg kick for timing, and works the barrel on a clean path through contact with some strength showing the pull-side. Has some present bat speed and whip to the left-handed swing and shows ability to match plane well. Recorded a top EV of 92.7 mph during his round of BP.

+ INF Witt Crisler (Hartselle, 2027) took one of the more mature rounds during the workout, as he consistently barreled up firm contact to all parts of the field. From the right side of the plate, the 5-foot-8, 160-pounder controls the barrel well through the zone with accuracy while featuring a short, simple stride for timing. Mostly level path through contact allows for line-drive contact right now, which peaked at a 92.1 mph EV during his BP round. Stays balanced and well-connected throughout and does a good job of driving the ball where it's pitched. A primary infielder, but also flashed the leather in CF during gameplay with a diving grab.

+ INF Lane Harris (Helena, 2027) earned significant playing time down the stretch for the Huskies last spring and has a chance to have an even bigger junior campaign. Listed at 5-foot-9, 168-pounds, Harris continued to get off quality swings from the right side during BP, showing a natural, consistent feel for the sweet spot of the barrel. The right-hander has a short, compact swing and stays through contact well using a two-handed finish. Frequent line drives during the round, peaking at an 88.6 mph EV and averaging 85.4 mph.

+ SS Riggins Rogers (Spain Park, 2028) easily showed as one of the top sophomores in attendance at the event putting on a display of quality tools in the process. A 5-foot-8, 171-pounder, Rogers is an impressive right-handed hitter who hammered the baseball with consistent gap-to-gap contact during his round of BP, peaking at a 93.5 mph EV. Features a controlled stride for timing, and shows the ability to flick the barrel in the zone with easy bat speed for his age. Ball tends to jump off the barrel compared to others in his class using a strong, whippy barrel with present strength at the point of impact.

+ SS/RHP Ryan Nichols (Tuscaloosa County, 2027) is an intriguing two-way prospect in Alabama's 2027 class worth following over the next year. Listed at 5-foot-9, 150-pounds, Nichols has a lean, wiry build with plenty of room to continue to fill out and develop into his frame with added strength. Offensively, the right-hander showcases a smooth, easy swing with athletic actions and easy movements through impact. The barrel works on a level path through contact, yielding consistent line drives to the pull-side and a top EV of 99.2 mph. Also clocked a 7.09 60-yard dash and worked up to 85 mph on the mound.

+ 1B Avery Haynes (Etowah, 2027) is a strong 6-foot, 195-pound right-handed bat who looks to impact the ball to the pull-side and showed off the easy pop during his round of BP. Looking to create extension out front with each swing, Haynes guides the barrel on an upward path and does a good job of creating strength in the barrel using his strong lower-half. Consistently lived on the barrel throughout his round of BP during the event with deep drives to the pull-side gap. Peaked at a 96.5 mph EV and recorded a max estimated distance of 369 ft., an event-best.

+ INF Grayson Cannon (Northridge, 2026) posted some strong numbers across the board and ranked near the top of most statistical categories from the event. A 5-foot-8, 158-pounder, the senior has a lean, athletic build and shows some twitchy actions in the right-handed swing. Routinely found the barrel during his round of BP with consistent hard contact to the pull-side. Has a quick, simple stride for timing and stays direct to contact in the swing with good intent. Led the event with a 6.77 60-yard dash and posted a top EV of 97.5 mph.
