Slammers Scout Day: Takeaways

On June 9th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Slammers Scout Day at Grayslake Central HS in Grayslake, IL. 39 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.
Today, we will be looking at the prospects that stood out to our staff within this Takeaways story.
2026s
+ 1B Connor Brockway (Vernon Hills, 2026) would present a physical right-handed bat during the event. Took a quality round of batting practice, producing a max exit velocity of 98.4 mph and an average of 88.9 mph to pair with a max distance of 359 feet. Presenting a wide setup, Brockway would get into a position of launch via a quiet leg kick while showing a short swing with present bat speed. Strong 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame. Uncommitted.
+ RHP Luke Eckenstahler (Grayslake Central, 2026) emerged as a must-follow in the state’s rising senior class. On the mound, he showed a high leg lift while working from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat 81-83 mph with late running action, complemented by a 66-68 mph curveball with late break and a 73-75 mph changeup. Stands at 6-foot-6, 200-pounds with ample room to add strength.
+ RHP/OF Luke Pasquesi (Lake Forest, 2026) showed an intriguing two-way profile in the state’s rising senior class. On the mound, he ran his fastball up to 84 mph, and paired it with a 69-71 mph slider spinning up to 2,428 rpm and a 76-80 mph changeup with up to 16.6 inches of horizontal movement. A simple mover on the bump, Pasquesi worked from a ¾ slot with a full arm circle and developing use of his lower half. At the plate, he showcased a strong right-handed swing with a developing feel for the barrel. Defensively, he took reps in the outfield, showing a good arm up to 87 mph while working behind the ball and chopping his feet. Stands 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Uncommitted.
+ A Lafayette commit as of July, LHP Sean McNair (Deerfield, 2026) showed a quality, (then) uncommitted profile on the mound. An explosive mover with quick tempo, he worked from a compact low-¾ slot. His fastball sat 83-85 mph, touching 86 with arm-side run, and was paired with a 72-73 mph slider featuring sweeping shape and up to 17.4 inches of horizontal movement, as well as a deceptive 73-75 mph splitter. Compact 5-foot-8, 175-pound frame.
+ MIF Carson Woods (Grayslake Central, 2026) would show quality actions on the dirt to pair with a developing left-handed bat. Defensively, he showed quick, athletic actions, staying light on his feet while also showing an arm that was up to 82 mph from across the diamond, which played up with accuracy. At the plate, Woods showed a short, line-drive-oriented swing with quality barrel control and feel to hit to all parts of the field. 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame with developing strength & athleticism.
2027s
+ MIF Braxton Goodfellow (Warren Township, 2027) would take a quality round of batting practice, producing a max exit velocity of 93.3 mph to pair with an average of 88.1 mph with a sweet spot rate of 82%. Showed some present bat speed with a max of 72.3 mph and an average of 70.5 mph. Presents a wide base with a quick leg kick and loose hands. 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with developing strength & athleticism.
+ RHP Andrew Hymans (Lake Forest, 2027) would show a quality profile on the mound. Would show a deliberate, loose delivery with an easy leg lift and short 3/4s arm action. The fastball would sit 81-84 mph and was thrown alongside a 68-70 mph curveball with 10/4 break. Also showed a 75-77 mph changeup with downer, fading action. 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame.
+ RHP/MIF Tyler Koehlhoeffer (Libertyville, 2027) would show an intriguing two-way profile during the event. On the mound, he showed an explosive delivery with a high leg lift and good balance while working from a compact 3/4s slot. The fastball would sit 79-80 mph with late arm-side life & was throwing alongside a 69-72 mph slider with tight, late break. Also showed a 72-74 mph changeup with up to 17.4 inches of horizontal movement. At the plate showed a developing right-handed swing with quiet pre-pitch actions, loose hands, and a flat bat path. Took a solid round of infield defense, showing confident hands and an ability to throw from multiple angles. 6-foot-2, 155-pound frame with room for added strength.
+ MIF Samuel Rivera (New Trier, 2027) would show quality defensive actions during the event with confident hands and developing arm strength. At the plate presented a gap-to-gap oriented right-handed swing with developing feel for the barrel. 6-foot-1, 160-pound frame with room for added strength
+ MIF Charlie Surowiec (Grayslake Central, 2027) would have one of the better all-around days with a strong right-handed swing and some present instincts on the dirt. Took a quality round of batting practice, producing a max exit velocity of 95.6 mph and an average of 88.4 mph. Presented an open, balanced stance with line-drive intent and present feel for the barrel. Defensively, showed quality actions up the middle with soft hands, range, and a quick arm that was also up to 81 mph from across the diamond. 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame with some present athleticism.
2028s
+ RHP/3B Anthony Boenzi (Lake Zurich, 2028) would show a developing two-way profile during the event. On the mound, would work from a compact high 3/4s slot with a 76-79 mph fastball with ride at the top of the zone, a 65-69 mph slider with sharp bite, and a 68-71 mph changeup with arm-side fade. The right-handed hitter would show an open setup with a shorter stride and a developing feel for the barrel. 5-foot-11, 189-pound frame.
+ Standing in a lanky 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, RHP/3B Logan Boggs (Libertyville, 2028) would show a developing two-way profile to follow within the state’s rising sophomore class. On the mound showed a balanced delivery with tall-and-fall mechanics while working from a compact over-the-top arm slot. The fastball would get up to 80 mph with some ride, and was thrown alongside a 66-67 mph curveball with 12/6 shape. Also showed a 68-69 mph changeup that he consistently threw with fastball intent. At the plate showed a line-drive oriented right-handed swing to pair with a gap-to-gap approach and developing barrel strength. Defensively showed clean movements on the dirt with athleticism that played up.
+ An attendee of the Preseason All-State event, RHP/MIF Jacob Huber (Libertyville, 2028) continued to show a two-way profile to follow within the state’s 2028 class. On the mound, he’s a loose, easy, and deliberate mover, working from a high 3/4s slot with a quick arm and full arm circle. His fastball sat 79-82 mph and was complemented by a 65-67 mph curveball with 11/5 shape and a 72-75 mph changeup with late diving action. At the plate, Huber took a quality round of batting practice, showcasing a right-handed swing with present feel for the barrel while producing a max exit velocity of 86.9 mph. He works from a tall, narrow setup with a simple, longer stride. Defensively, Huber displayed athletic actions on the dirt with light feet and clean glove work. Athletic 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame.
+ 3B/RHP Matt Sander (Buffalo Grove, 2028) emerged as a two-way follow from the event. At the plate, he showed a quality left-handed bat with pull-side tendencies and easy barrel strength, producing a max exit velocity of 86.4 mph. On the mound, he displayed easy, balanced movements while working from a compact ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat 79-80 mph with arm-side life and up to 21.4 inches of induced vertical break. He also featured a 66-68 mph curveball with late 10/4 break, a 68-70 mph slider with tight spin up to 2,147 rpm, and a 73-74 mph changeup that he consistently threw with fastball intent.
+ RHP/MIF Eli Sigal (Stevenson, 2028) would showcase a quality two-way profile throughout the event. An easy mover on the mound, the right-handed pitcher showed a fastball up to 82 mph while working from a high 3/4s slot. Also showed a 62-65 mph slider with slight break and a deceptive 74-76 mph changeup. At the plate showed a pull-side oriented right-handed swing with a present feel for the barrel and loose hands. Athletic 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame.
+ An attendee of the Preseason All-State event, MIF Jace Sothen (Mundelein, 2028) would show an athletic up-the-middle profile. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed an easy swing with gap-to-gap intent with a max exit velocity of 87.3 mph and an average of 83.9 mph. Athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame.
+ Another attendee of the Preseason All-State Event, OF/RHP Grant Wilson (Loyola Academy, 2028) would continue to offer our staff an athletic two-way profile to follow within the state’s 2028 class. At the plate showed an easy right-handed swing, flashing pullside pop while producing a max exit velocity of 89 mph and a max bat speed of 72 mph. Showed solid instincts in the outfield with present instincts and athleticism that played up. On the mound showed easy lower-body usage while working from a short, low-3/4s slot. The fastball would sit in the 78-81 mph range and was thrown alongside a tight spinning low-70s slider. Also showed a 76-78 mph changeup with late diving action. Showed a present feel for spin with spin rates north of 2400 rpm on the fastball and spin rates north of 2500 rpm on the slider. Wiry 5-foot-9, 178-pound frame.
2029s
+ RHP/OF Ben McNair (Deerfield, 2029) would emerge as a name to follow as he enters high school. On the mound showed a deliberate delivery with a high leg lift and a short high 3/4s arm action. The fastball would sit 75-77 mph, getting up to 78 mph. Also showed a 63-66 mph slider with tight spin and a 68-70 mph splitter with late diving action. At the plate showed a quality right-handed swing with line-drive intent and some present feel for the barrel. Produced a max exit velocity of 86.5 mph with an average of 80.5 mph. Developing 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame with present athleticism.
+ OF/RHP Cole Pawlowski (Libertyville, 2029) would emerge as a name to follow in the state’s 2029 class. At the plate presents a wide base with a quiet leg kick and evident barrel control. On the mound showed deliberate movements while working from a low-3/4s slot. Developing a 6-foot, 150-pound frame.
