Throughout the summer, Prep Baseball Washington travelled across the state, gaining valuable looks at some of the top high school talent in the area. Whether it was in a showcase or a gameplay environment, many players showed significant development in their overall skillsets.

Today, we continue with our series of summer player rankings updates, focusing on the class of 2027. Player rankings are a comprehensive and ever-evolving list, using a mixture of information gathered from our events, in-game looks, present tools, and future projection.

Below, we highlight some key takeaways from the 2027 update. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for updates to the 2028's rankings list.

Howe Holds at #1 After Strong Summer

Rylan Howe RHP / RHP / Union, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 1

After taking over the top spot in our previous rankings update, Howe more than solidified his place atop the list after several great summer outings at some of Prep Baseball's top events. The tall righty threw two quick scoreless innings in Georgia before turning in an even more dominant outing at the PNW State Games in Vancouver. At State Games, Howe's FB velocity ran up to 92.9 MPH from a steady, repeatable delivery. The 6'4 frame generates easy extension downhill and should only continue to add strength, making Howe one of the most sought-after talents in the area.

From 7/26/25... "Howe got the nod on the mound to start game two for Team PNW at the Future Games. The tall righty pitched to contact and filled up the zone, throwing two quick frames of scoreless ball. Howe showcased an intruiging four-pitch mix, running the FB up to 91.2 MPH and mixing in a SL at 76-78 MPH as his strongest secondary to go alongside a CT/SPL. Induced soft contact on the ground consistently. A loose, whippy arm action with a 3/4 slot release gives the FB some heavier life, and the ability to change speeds and present four true offerings for strikes really set the Union arm over the top in this look."

Future Games Standouts Headline Near The Top

Luke Overbay OF / 3B / Tumwater, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 4

Few players stood out more in Georgia than Overbay, who posted big numbers in the workout portion of the event before shining in-game as well. A natural athlete with pro baseball in his bloodlines, Overbay posted exit velocities up to 101 MPH with over 80 MPH bat speed from the right side. The Tumwater product projects well to a corner OF spot with a 7.1 60-time and throws up to 90 MPH from the outfield as well. Overbay's quiet, no-nonsense approach also translated to the mound, where he was dominant in a short stint. The RHP featured a nasty arsenal from a lower 3/4 slot release that could be manipulated, sitting 88-91 MPH with a plus changeup as well. Overbay likely will stick as a bat at the next level, but the natural talent and two-way ability stuck out in all facets of his game. Overbay's breakout in Georgia built on a great winter showing at PNW Preseason All-State, and he should be one of the best bats in the area in the coming years.

Landon Klein C / 3B / Snohomish, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 8

Another Preseason All-State standout, Klein's dynamic style of play was shown from the jump at the Future Games. The catcher features incredible speed for the position, running a 6.68 60-yard dash time this summer. The quickness translates defensively, highlighted by mature framing and blocking and a best pop time of 1.90 seconds. Klein controlled the run game with ease and had no difficulties catching high velocity. At the plate, the 5'11 prospect currently is more contact-over-power with innate feel for the barrel. Klein collected multiple hits in Georgia against high-end arms, always taking the extra base as well. One of the best catchers in the PNW should be on coaches radars after his impressive series of performances this year.

Tanner Davis SS / RHP / Kamiakin, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 13

Davis was first seen by Prep Baseball staff at the Spokane Summer ID after an exceptional high school season with Kamiakin. The two-way ability played in Georgia and at PNW State Games this summer, leading to a recent commitment to the University of Washington. Davis gets the most out of his 5'9 frame at the plate, with twitch and athleticism from the right side. Davis posted exit velocities up to 97.4 MPH and averaged 92.2 MPH in his best BP rounds. Defensively, the 6.67 runner should stick up the middle, with throws up to 88 MPH across the diamond. The arm talent translates to the mound, where he sits 87-89 MPH with a plus SL and occasional CH mixed in at times. The tools and ability to produce in-game should make Davis an immediate contributor at the next level.

Other Summer Risers

Jake Miller SS / RHP / Sumner, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 15

Miller was one of the biggest winners at PNW State Games this summer, continuing to trend upward this year. Ultra-twitchy, medium-framed athlete showed real ability to impact the baseball from the left side of the plate. High-intent swing operation, starts in a taller stance and rotates with a firm front side through contact. Pull-oriented approach with a 101.2 MPH peak and 93.7 average exit velocity. 7.05 second runner with enough arm strength to play middle INF moving forward. Hard-nosed style of play. Bat to circle.

Micah Houston C / OF / Curtis, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 18

After some limited looks this Spring, Houston put together one of the best BP showings seen all year at the Seattle Summer Review. The righty oozed athleticism and twitch from his 6'0, 190 pound frame. Ball jumped off the bat with strength from the ground up from the right side. Bat speed present with a sudden fire and acceleration through contact. Peaked with a 104.6 MPH exit velocity, averaging 97.2 MPH. Hit several pitches over the wall in a stadium that is tough to leave for right-handed hitters, peaking with a 391 foot batted ball distance. 6.91 runner in the 60 and a 2.06 second pop time from behind the plate as well. Must-follow moving forward.

Xzyyvn Martinez RHP / 3B / Othello, WA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 30

Another strong performer at PNW State Games in Vancouver. Strong, stocky frame with two-way ability shown all week. On the barrel from the left side in BP rounds with a 91.5 MPH average EV and a 92 percent sweet spot %. Simple approach at the plate with short stride and direct path yielded results in-game, including a double into the gap on day one. Also ran the FB up to 86.9 MPH on the mound with a SL/CH offspeed combination. Both SL and CH flashed depth and offered a different look off of the heater. Martinez is the latest talented prospect to come out of Othello HS in recent years and should continue to produce.
