VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months as the fall schedule begins to ramp up for scout ball, travel basball, high school scrimmage season and our Prep Baseball California series of events.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on an impressive 2027 player who is coming off a solid Sophomore high school season and on the Prep Baseball California circuit this summer. We are looking at SoCal '27 OF Austin Loughrin from La Canada High School in La Canada, Calif.. Loughrin debuted on the Prep Baseball California event circuit this summer with a strong showing at the Future Games Tryout: Fullerton and the showing there combined with his solid Soph. season earned him an invite to the 2025 California State Games where he put on a strong three days of performance.
During his 2025 spring La Canada High School Austin was able to earn a prominent spot with 29 games played out of 30 coming to the plate 97 times with 78 official at bats. For the spring the RH hitting posted a .256/.396/.282 slash line with flashes of his future upside coming from 20 total hits, two doubles, 11 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. Loughrin drew 16 walks on the spring while stealing another eight bases. He played solid defense in the OF with just two errors on the spring.
During his batting practice sessions across both Prep Baseball California events the RH hitting Loughrin has shown a small leg lift and quiet hands in the load before taking his forward move to reach the launch position. Once at launch Loughrin sinks into his back leg with an aggressive turn of the hips and a direct hand path to the ball while his barrel works uphill through the zone. The metrics for Austin are solid to strong across the board including the ability to generate torque in his swing through his lower 1/2 with a peak rotational acceleration of 17.6 Gs with quickness in his hands reaching 22.9 MPH on his peak hand speed and strong present bat speeds up to 76.8 MPH. The operation for Loughrin has produced strong batted ball data during his batting practice sessions including a 98.6 MPH max exit velocity, 87.8 MPH average exit velocity, 357' max batted ball distance and a strong 63% hard hit rate plus a 50% sweet spot rate. Austin has posted 57-63% fly ball/line drive rates which can be polished as he continues to develop his rhythm/timing to tap into the power that is in his profile for doubles and homers.
Loughrin is a present wiry athletic build at 5'10 158.5 lbs. presently and has the room on his frame to add strength in the 15-25 lbs range as he continues to mature while maintaining his athleticism. A solid present runner Loughrin has run as low at 6.94 seconds in the 60 with the ability to reach quality top end run speeds to cover ground at 20.3 MPH that combined with his 86 MPH OF arm at present has the chance to profile as a future three OF position versatility profile including realistic CF/RF upside.
With a solid performance from his Soph year high school stats and during hisevent performances for our staff there are several reasons for college programs to be keeping tabs on Loughrin for their 2027 class.
