Updated Class of 2028 Player Rankings (September)

Throughout the summer we were all over the state, scouting numerous prospects and seeing many new names came to the forefront of the recruiting scene. With that information, we are updating each of our class rankings based off what we have seen.

As summer sports come to an end and the new school season starts, we will take a look at "What's New In The Top 10", "Arms To Watch", "Position Players To Watch" and a look some of the top uncommitted prospects by position, and a close look at the Top 10.

Who's At The Top

Koltyn Watters OF / LHP / Rochester Adams, MI / 2028

Report: Watters takes the No. 1 position for the 2028 rankings after a long spring and summer months. Watters has seen increased physicality while taking his play to another level - making a big imprint on his FR campaign for Rochester Adams. A high ceiling with power line to line and present athleticism - we expect Watters to take another step this offseason.

What's New In The Top 10

Maksim Neshov OF / LHP / Brother Rice, MI / 2028

Report: Neshov jumped onto the scene at Brother Rice in a storm hitting in a key piece of the order for Coach Riker’s Brother Rice Warriors. An extremely tough out from both sides of the plate and a threat on the bases - Neshov floor is high and has been known for his consistent offensive production - evident with his performance this last summer capping it with a strong performance at Super Sophomore Games in Columbus, OH. 

Tristan Spencer 1B / LHP / Woodhaven High School, MI / 2028

Report: Strong physical left handed bat with a strong hit tool - Spencer is a strong two-way player at this point in the class with a 3 pitch mix from the left side. Spencer played a key role for Woodhaven this last year hitting in the middle of the lineup driving in a plethora of runs en route to an impressive freshman campaign. 

Evan King LHP / 1B / Dow High School, MI / 2028

Report: King makes his way into the Top 10 after coming into 2025 under the radar, respectively. A proficient lefty handed arm with a strong 3-pitch mix and a fastball reaching into the mid 80s. King features a clean operation on the hill with efficiency in the strike zone against opposing batters. 

Chase Atkins SS / OF / Bedford, MI / 2028

Report: Atkins has climbed up into the Top 10 following large gains over the last 8 months across the board from defense to offensive attributes. A clear commitment to a gain in muscle and mobility - Atkins has seen the translation to the plate profiling himself as a future RBI producer for the Mules of Bedford with a number of XBH.  

Arms To Watch

Josh Seubert RHP / 2B / Catholic Central High School, MI / 2028

Report: A rising RHP from Catholic Central had a strong appearance at Underclass Games in July earning an invite to SSG in August. Quality two-pitch mix with 11/5 breaking ball and a fastball he was able to move around the plate. Longer delivery down the mound with H ¾ slot - fastball up to 85 over summer. 

Mason Pilotto RHP / 3B / Romeo High School, MI / 2028

Report: We first got a glimpse of Mason at the 5-Tool scout day back in February. A clear standout on the mound - fast paced delivery with quick arm speed. Pilotto capped off his summer representing Team Michigan at the Midwest Super Sophomore Games running the fastball up to 84 mph. 

Easton Hawkins RHP / OF / Leslie, MI / 2028

Report: An up and coming prospect from Leslie HS, teammates with UK commit Jackson Fossitt. Had a good freshman season flashing power at the plate and a strong arm into the mid 80’s on the mound. Will look to make another jump this offseason. 

Jaxon Rinehart LHP / OF / Edwardsburg High School, MI / 2028

Report: Two-way prospect from SW Michigan who sticks it from the left side and low ¾ slot. Present balance with good connectivity from ground up. Already profile good athleticism in a 6-3 frame body - one to keep a close eye on in 2028 class.

Position Players To Watch

Josh Leonard SS / 2B / Adlai Stevenson High School, MI / 2028

Report: Leonard made his impression early on for the Titans of Sterling Heights. Stevenson this spring catapulting his way into the lineup and producing in the MAC. Leonard has been consistent putting together quality at-bats while taking pride in his defensive work in the middle infield. Profiles high baseball IQ already in his young amateur career. 

Zac Kruper OF / LHP / Anchor Bay, MI / 2028

Report: Don’t be remiss by the size of Kruper - a tough out in the box with good range in the outfield - Kruper makes his way into the Top 15 for the class in our fall rankings update. A strong performance at SSG with some XBH and good heads up on the bases - Kruper has the potential to be one of the more impactful position players in the class as we look forward into 2026. 

Luke Fairchild SS / Detroit Catholic Central, MI / 2028

Report: The brother of UC commit - Fairchild features similar traits with a slender athletic frame that moves well on the infield with some carry on the ball across the diamond. Fairchild was able to string together a few hits against the region's toughest arms at SSG - but made his name truly known at Underclass Games in July. 

Timmy Clarey SS / OF / Grand Rapids Catholic Central, MI / 2028

Report: Competitive at bat with a good variety  of position versatility who can impact the team in more than one way - Clarey was a key player for the Cougars this spring jolting himself into a starter on Michigan’s westside. Clarey followed up a good spring into another consistent summer for Grand Rapids Diamonds. 

Mick Smead C / RHP / Constantine High School, MI / 2028

Report: Smead is a player whose ceiling is high with the body profile and flexibility behind the dish with some untapped potential at the plate. 6 '3 200 body who had a strong week at the 15u National Championships showing off some power. Smead will be a close follow for those as we head into the spring/summer 2026.
