VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on an impressive 2027 player who is featured inside the Top 30 of our 2027 California rankings. We are looking at SoCal '27 SS/2B Jordan Kurz from Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif.. Kurz has been a two standout at the Prep Baseball National Program Invite at LakePoint Sports in Georgia while also turning in a strong showing at the Future Games Tryout: Fullerton event. In addition after seeing playing time in a role player spot for the Lancers in spring 2025 put together a strong 2025 summer including earning a spot on the Brewers Underclass team for Area Codes. Kurz was strong in a live look for myself at the Area Codes this summer and should be in strong consideration for a prominent role on the Lancers squad in 2026.
Kurz's offensive profile is uber interesting showing the type of swing/feel to hit that profiles a future at the top of a lineup. The RH hitter starts from a taller slightly open set up with a simple controlled load as he employs a leg kick with a hover on his front side before moving to launch.. His hands start near his head at ear height and remain relatively quiet in the load staying connected to his body. There is a quick turn in his lower half the the upper body drives through the baseball and the hand path is compact/direct while showing a leveraged path through the zone. His turn is sound and can generate torque with a peak rotational acceleration of 12.7 Gs while showing present quickness with his hands up to 21 MPH peak hand speed and flashes solid present bat speed at 72.4 MPH in the swing. His batting practice at FGT: Fullerton was solid posting a strong present max ev up to 93.2 MPH with an awareness for hard contact including a 83% sweet spot rate and 86.5 MPH avg EV. Kurz lives in the air with contact showing consistent leverage around the field posting a 67% line drive rate while flashing loft with a 33% fly ball rate that provides plenty of intrigue to his future offensive profile.
The 2025 spring season brought varsity playing time for Kurz in the Trinity League, but more in a role player position for OLU squad, but Kurz made that time matter. He played in 14 games taking 20 trips to the plate with 17 official at bats (drew three walks on the spring) to post small sample size slash line of .353/.450/.353 on six hits with three RBIs and five runs scored. Kurz was perfect defensively during his time on the field for OLU which profiles to his strong up the middle long term defensive profile.
Kurz has an intriguing present build at 6' 163.4 lbs frame that has a wiry athletic look at present and can add strength throughout as he matures. Kurz has shown solid present athleticsim with a 7.18 60 (19.6 MPH max run speed) that will only continue to improve as he continues to develop physically. He flashes sound defensive actions with a keen awareness for how to move on the INF and the arm has plenty of present strength (88 MPH INF velocity) for SS long term and will easily handle 2B/3B should those fit his future.
With a strong performance during his Soph. season in limited reps on the varsity level, but a loud track record of performance against high level competition including a turn on the Team USA 15U National squad and impressive showing at the Area Codes Underclass in 2025 for the Brewers squad. Kurz is undoubtedly a name college programs are keeping close eyes on and will be a strong land for any program looking for offensive pieces who can stick up the middle on the INF dirt long term.
