Texas Class of 2028 Rankings Update (Sept 2025)

The Texas 2028 player rankings have been updated after the Summer season. Four new names have surged into the top 10, reflecting their standout performances and rising stock on the national stage. In addition, the list has been expanded to 150 players, providing an even deeper look at the talent across the state. With new faces climbing and familiar ones holding strong, this update highlights the depth, projection, and competitiveness that continue to define Texas high school baseball.

TOP 10
1. Luke Esquivel | LHP | Grapevine HS | L/L | 6’3” 190 | LSU Commit
Esquivel remains at the top of the 2028 Texas rankings. He has a strong frame with room to add strength and is a solid athlete. Repeats his delivery with ease, showing effortless arm action and advanced strike-throwing ability for his age. Fastball topped at 89 with life, complemented by feel for both the curveball and changeup. His clean, easy arm action suggests more velocity to come, with present athleticism and polish. Also a capable bat, showing a solid hit/power combo and contributing as a freshman to Grapevine’s 2025 State Championship run. A high-level competitor with upside on both sides of the ball.
2. Cullen Scott | RHP/3B | Melissa HS | R/R | 6’3” 200
Scott has a highly projectable frame and should be evaluated as a legitimate two-way prospect. On the mound, he has been up to 95 mph with tailing action to the arm side and carry up in the zone. Shows the ability to land both curveball and slider with spin and swing-and-miss qualities, while continuing to develop a changeup. At third base, displays solid first-step quickness and reliable actions. Offensively, projects for well-above-average raw power with present ability to drive the ball out to all fields. A strong case to be among the top players in the class. Will be approximately 18.3 years old at the 2028 draft.
3. Travis Fiedler | SS/RHP | Ridge Point HS | L/R
One of the top infielders in his class. Fiedler shows range, agility, and advanced footwork on both forehand and backhand plays. Plus arm strength (89 mph) with the ability to throw accurately from multiple angles. At the plate, the LHH features an athletic, even stance with a simple load, creating rhythm and quick hands through the zone. Gap-to-gap hitter with developing power. On the mound, sits 83-85 and touches 86. Delivery is repeatable with a clean, athletic arm. Also shows ability to spin the baseball with command.
4. Nathan Garcia | RHP | Homeschool | R/R | 6’3” 210
Big, physical frame at 6’3” 210. Fastball sits 87-89 and has touched 92 with ease out of an effortless delivery. Strike thrower who also shows the ability to spin a curveball at 73-75 with 2/7 shape, a pitch that should sharpen with continued development. At the plate, Garcia’s right-handed swing uses his lower half well, showing adjustability and the ability to do damage. A well-rounded player with two-way upside.
5. Valentin Ceballos | RHP | New Braunfels HS | 6’2” 185
Ceballos features a strong, well-built frame with a lower half that drives his delivery. Fastball has been up to 92 mph this summer with sink and run that works away from left-handed hitters. Delivery includes a side rock step into a medium/high leg lift with coil, working aggressively down the mound with a full arm swing and high-¾ slot. Spins a quality breaking ball with slurve shape, showing depth and sweep. Two plus pitches in the arsenal and plenty of upside moving forward.
6. Taegen Tate | RHP | Amarillo HS | 6’2” 200
Strong, durable build with room to continue adding strength. Despite a shorter arm action, Tate generates good hand speed. Fastball sits 85-87 and touches 89 with downhill plane and sink. When on time, shows feel to spin the ball. Slider (74-76) is his sharper, out-pitch offering, while the curveball (71-74) has more depth and works well to reset counts. Both pitches are effective and give him a quality mix. A very intriguing young arm to follow.
7. Camden Dean | OF/LHP | Southlake Carroll HS | S/L | 6’0” 180
Dean is an athletic two-way player and one of the rare freshmen to start and contribute at Southlake Carroll. Played a key role in 2025, hitting leadoff during the playoffs. Projects well physically with room for added strength. A 6.99 runner now with the potential to become a plus runner, showing good reads and angles in the outfield; played RF but profiles to move to CF. At the plate, shows feel to hit with developing power, hitting over .350 with strong strike zone awareness. On the mound, has been up to 90 mph with a feel for spin and strike-throwing ability. A complete athlete with a bright future on both sides of the ball.
8. Landon Bonner | SS/2B | Hebron HS | L/R | 5’8” 150
Compact, athletic frame with room for future strength. Plus runner with a 6.6 60 and projects to be a well-above-average runner long term. Confident hitter with quick hands and an aggressive approach, consistently barreling baseballs with surprising pull-side power. Offense is centered on hit ability, though power could continue to develop. Defensively, shows quickness with developing infield actions, likely staying in the middle of the diamond. Brings speed, athleticism, and a bat-first profile.
9. Braylon Hubbard | SS/2B | Duncanville HS | R/R | 6’0” 178
Athletic build with projection remaining. Plus runner now (6.84) with a chance to develop into a well-above-average runner. Explosive mover with defensive actions that fit at shortstop, showing range, body control, and agility to make plays on the move. Offensively, shows bat speed with a sound approach and pull-side raw power developing. High-makeup player who plays the game hard. Athletic, explosive, and projectable, Hubbard has tools that fit in the middle of the diamond.
10. Jaxon Knapp | SS | China Spring HS | R/R
Knapp is a toolsy, athletic shortstop with an exciting skill set. Runs a 6.84 60, throws 84 across the diamond, and has posted a 97.5 mph exit velocity. Instinctual defender with good hands and footwork, reading hops well. At the plate, hits from an athletic base with rhythm in his lower half and a quick move off his backside, showing ability to get the barrel out front. Upside athlete with a strong tool set who should continue to trend upward as he matures.
