Rend Lake / SIC Scout Day: Takeaways

Rend Lake

SO, Eli Maynor, RHP, Du Quoin (IL)

The right-hander gave a strong look in his ‘pen. He’s a clean mover with a high leg-lift into balance point, moving into a drop/drive lower-half that stays in-line. His arm is clean and uninterrupted and plays into a high ¾ release. The fastball showed some carry traits with quality spin (T16.5 IVB; T2357 rpm), cruising around 87-88 mph. He showed big spin on the breaking ball with over 2,800 rpm on average, showing sharp top-to-bottom action at 77 mph. His slider also played with well above-average spin, averaging over 2,700 rpm with more lateral shape at 77-78 mph. His final offering was a changeup at 81-82 mph with straight action.

FR, Lochlan Hansel, RHP, George Rogers Clark (KY)

The right-hander will be a freshman to follow this coming fall and spring. He has a simple delivery with a longer and clean arm action that plays from a higher ¾ window. The fastball comes out with life in the 87-90 mph range with running action, setting up a short slider and straight changeup that both play in the upper-70s.

SO, Alex Calhoun, RHP, McKracken (KY)

The right-hander showed well in his ‘pen with a five-pitch mix and high-spin. He’s an up-tempo mover with a clean delivery, working with a high leg-lift into balance point before working in-line down the mound, medium/long draw out of the glove into a higher ¾ release. The fastball played in the 86-87 mph range with over 2,300 rpm - setting up both a slider at 77-78 mph (T2678 rpm) and curveball at 70-74 mph (T2712 rpm), both showing sharp action with different shapes. He also showed a sinker which played harder than the four seam up to 88 mph, averaging just under 15” of run. His final offering was a changeup at 74-75 mph with killed spin and around 13” of run on average.

SO, Ayden McAtee, RHP, Castle (IN)

Standing in at 6-foot-7, 195-pounds, the projectable right-hander showed intriguing upside throughout his ‘pen. He works from the third base side of the rubber exclusively from the stretch, creating a tough angle while also delivering his arsenal from a higher, over the top slot. The fastball played up to 88 mph with some carry and angle to it through the zone, pairing with a curveball at 70-73 mph with depth and a changeup with hard fade, 77-80 mph.
