VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on an impressive 2027 player who is featured inside the Top 60 of our 2027 California rankings. We are looking at SoCal '27 SS/3B Brady Bickham from Damien High School in La Verne, Calif.. Bickham made his debut on the Prep Baseball California stage with an outstanding display of his athleticism/tools during the Central California Preseason All State event at Antelope Valley College. From there he put together a solid season on the varsity level for the Damien program showing flashes of his present ability and plenty of evidence to the upside in his profile as he continues to develop/mature against high level competition. The Spartans SS impressed during a live look in the spring season for myself playing at the Rancho Cucagmonga Quakes stadium against Upland High School.

Bickham's offensive profile was easily one of the most impressive during his batting practice session at the Preseason All State with consistent loud/hard contact. The RH hitter starts from a taller slightly open set up with a simple controlled load as he employs a leg kick with a hover on his front side before moving to launch.. His hands start near his head and he uses a push/small drop of his hands rearward into the loaded position. There is a quick turn in his lower half the the upper body stays back with tilt behind the baseball and the hand/barrel path works uphill through the zone to produce loft with carry to his contact profile from the oppo gap to pull side. His turn has an impressive ability to generate torque with a peak rotational acceleration of 25.3 Gs while showing present quickness with his hands up to 21.9 MPH peak hand speed and flashes solid present bat speed at 73.5 MPH in the swing operation. His batting practice at Central California Preseason All State was a display of the impact potential in his offensive profile where Bickham generated a 100% hard hit rate, peaking at 98.5 MPH while averaging 95.3 MPH across his rounds  of batting practice including a 370' max distance and 60% sweet spot rate. Brady produced the majority of his contact in the air with authority posting a 70% fly ball/line drive rate including impressive carry to the middle of the field that has potential to turn into middle of the diamond HR power as he continues to add strength to his athletic frame.

The 2025 spring season was a solid display of the profile for Bickham offensively and defensively and if he can continue to polish his performance levels against high level competition Bickham's ceiling is intriguingly high. The RH hitter played in 26 games taking 92 plate appearances with 79 official at bats while posting a .278/.370/.354 line in his Soph. season. He had 22 total hits with four of those going for extra bases (three doubles and one homer) while driving in eight runs with 12 runs scored. Bickham posted an even 12 BB to 12 K rate with seven stolen bases on the year.

Brady athletically built at 6' 176.4 lbs frame that has some solid present strength to it, but shows plenty of room for added strength in the futue. A solid present athlete he posted 7.1 60 yard sprint speed (on a blustery cold Jan. morning) with a top end 19.8 MPH run speed. He shows the actions in his footwork, comfort with his hands, solid present arm strength 86 MPH (with room to add) that all project a long term left side of the INF profile defensive that could stick at SS long term with continued development to his overall profile.

With a solid present performance, plenty of upside/projection to his ceiling, raw tools with strength in the offensive profile, while showing the potential to stay on the left side of the INF college programs should be keeping eyes on Bickham in the coming time as a piece for the 2027 recruiting classes.

Scouting Report

4/12/25

Bickham stood out during the workout portion of the 2025 Central California Preseason All State event where his athleticism, defensive tools and offensive tools all stood at or near the top of any player in attendance. This live look showed really well how those tools can play in a game environment with Bickham working four high quality plate appearances including a pair of BBs, a solid line drive single to RCF and finally stung a one hop grounder at the 3B. Bickham uses a hip/upper body oriented swing with hands that work well to provide leverage through the middle of the field allowing his solid approach/feel for rhythm to play in game and showed solid spin recognition. Defensively, his actions are athletic with clean hands and shows the arm strength/accuracy/feel to throw from multiple slots to say at the spot long term and can defend in game showing range to his glove side, coming down hill and turning double plays. Bickham profiles as a strong to impact defender at a premium spot with a top of the order offensive profile that makes him a must follow in the 2027 recruiting class.

Another Inland Empire product who made the trek out to the High Desert to showcase his stuff the talented rising '27 out of the Damien program was uber-interesting with the quality of his performance. Bickham checks in as a present 6' 176.4 lbs. prospect with a 7.1 60, 86 MPH INF arm velocity/consistent accuracy from SS and the actions in his hands/feet to profile a long term SS/3B defender. But, when he stepped in the box for BP that was really where Bickham opened my eyes with a slightly uphill swing that generates lift with impact the metrics a rising '27 like Bickham can produce are going to catch plenty of eyes beyond just mine. Reaching 98.5 MPH on his max EV while averaging 95.3 MPH that produced a 100% hard hit rate plus a 370' max distance on a ball that one hopped the wall in deep LCF. Bickham gets to his impact from a quick turn that produces 25.3 G's of rotational acceleration and 73.5 MPH of bat speed with 21.9 MPH of hand speed. The tools for Bickham are very loud and while in a showcase setting you might not always post the strongest results even without those Bickham left the event as one of the most intriguing names to know for the 2025 spring season and going forward.
