Colorado Uncommitted Spotlight: 2027 Catchers

With the release of the latest update to our state rankings for the 2027 class, it’s a great time to take a closer look at some of the top uncommitted prospects in the class. Only a few months have passed since recruiting restrictions were lifted on the 2027s as they began their junior years, so there are numerous big names left on the board. Over the next few days, our staff will highlight five of the top prospects at each position, with a short breakdown of each athlete. First, we'll look at the state's top five uncommitted catchers in the class.

Jackson Bernosky C / 3B / Grandview, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 8 / POS: 1
One of the better athletes in the state regardless of position, Bernosky has an impressive mix of power and speed that is evident when looking at his metrics. At the plate, he's knocking on the door of triple digit exit velocities, topping out at 99 mph. He's also shown off his speed, clocking a 6.84 60 yard time. |

Cameron Mares C / RHP / Pueblo West, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 2
Another prospect who represented the state this summer at the Future Games, Mares has some legitimate upside on both sides of the battery. Focusing on his ability as a catcher, he has impressed defensively, putting down pop times consistently in the low 1.8 range. |

Declan Moylett C / SS / Severance High School, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 3
Moylett is a powerful athlete behind the dish. The raw strength shows up most clearly at the plate, where Moylett has seen his exit velocity reach the upper 90s. He's a solid defensive catcher as well, with pop times as low as 1.90. |

Sam Skubic C / RHP / Boulder, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 4
Another strong, physical prospect, Skubic has one of the better arms behind the dish in the class. His arm strength paired with nice actions have helped produce some really solid pop times, his quickest being 1.81. At the plate, there is some present power, with exit velocities topping out in the upper 90s. |

Braydon Gillest C / 1B / Ralston Valley Senior High School, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 42 / POS: 5
Gillest has some nice upside as a two-way prospect, already up to 85 mph with the fastball on the mound. Behind the dish, he's got some present power, maxing out his exit velocity in the low 90s. |
