This past weekend, our staff hosted the first tournament of the fall, the Maryland Fall Championships, at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in Salisbury. With 35+ teams and a slew of talent across four grad classes, I turn my attention to the Class of 2028 and take an in-depth look at ten players who made a notable impression last weekend. Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
Standouts: Class of 2028

Bentley Almarode C / 3B / Stuarts Draft High, VA / 2028Tournament Stats: .600 AVG, 1 2B, 2 1Bs, 1 RBI Throughout the weekend, the strong 5-foot-10, 180-pound left-handed hitter was consistently on barrel with loud strength to the pull side, showcasing some barrel feel and evident power upside. It’s a smooth, controlled backload that syncs well into the lower half, utilizing quick hands out of a shorter, compact stroke.

Warner Bachmann RHP / 1B / CALVERT HALL COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2028Tournament Stats: 5 IP, 7 K's and the Win. The imposing 5-foot-11, 220-pound right-hander got the start to open bracket play for 5-Star National Mid-Atlantic on Sunday morning, working five innings, giving up just two earned runs while punching out seven en route to a 6-3 victory. The fastball was the go-to in this one, running the heater into the mid 80s (T85) with the ability to mix to both sides of the plate, effectively tying up right-handed hitters hands. The curveball showed tight, late action down that played well off the fastball and showed promise as a real swing and miss pitch. As the strike percentage and feel for the zone increases, look for this to be an arm to watch coming out of Maryland in this 2028 class.

Bradley Burckhardt 1B / OF / Glenelg High, MD / 2028Tournament Stats: .250 AVG A name that keeps circulating throughout the state as of late has been the physical 6-foot-3, 200-pound corner infielder out of Glenelg. Burckhardt initially hit the 2028 rankings for the first time in the recent update and certainly garnered some interest this weekend, showcasing profound strength at the dish with whole field line drive tendencies. It’s easy to see the power potential, and the most enticing note about this hit tool is the consistent approach. The ability to spray to all fields, while possessing eye-opening strength only adds to the intrigue and should make for this to be a player to watch for years to come.

Wyatt Gates 3B / 1B / Salesianum, DE / 2028Tournament Stats: .375 AVG, 1 3B, 2 RBI Yet another imposing right-handed stick that stood out all weekend long, the big-bodied 6-foot, 195-pound Gates was on barrel consistently and continuously turned heads seamlessly every game. It’s a shorter, compact stroke that stays level through the zone with middle of the field tendencies that allow the approach to stay consistent. There is some present power upside that should only increase as the strength continues to be added to the frame.

Mason Glover C / OF / Sussex Academy, DE / 2028The top ranked player from Delaware in this 2028 class, Mason Glover certainly made his presence felt early on, coming out of the bullpen on opening night with one of the top fastballs that the whole weekend had to offer. The fastball ran into the upper 80s, topping out at 89 with run and ride that tied up right-handed hitters. The thing that stood out to me was the increased feel for the breaking ball, manipulating shapes and inducing weak contact fairly consistently. The high octane fastball is what always turns heads, however, if the secondary can become more consistent and be thrown for strikes, look for Glover to take his game to new heights. The hit tool also showed up this weekend and an early double into right-center field showcased once again how exciting this two-way talent really is.

Charlie Kappes SS / 3B / Salesianum, DE / 2028The Delaware Elite 2028’s had a plethora of big time bats to watch all weekend long, and Kappes added his name to that list all weekend. Gap-to-gap approach with backspin created to the middle, it always seemed that Kappes produced a loud barrel in every AB throughout the weekend. It’s a smooth, rhythmic toe-tap load that syncs well with the lower half that allows timing to be consistent at the dish. As the strength continues to unfold, look for this hit tool to really jump to the next level as we inch closer to the 2026 spring season.

Brady McNatt SS / 2B / Our Lady Of Good Counsel High School, MD / 2028Tournament Stats: .667 AVG, 4 RBI I’m not sure if anybody hit much better in this class over the weekend than McNatt, a prototypical leadoff stick with high contact ability that sprays line drives to all fields. It’s a smooth setup at the dish that allows consistency in the hands with above average bat speed through the zone. The frame still needs to mature and add strength, however the fluid actions and barrel feel bode well for even more success in the near future.

MacGuire Moore C / RHP / St. Mary's Ryken, MD / 2028Tournament Stats: .500 AVG, 3B, 2 RBI The athletic two-way was arguably my biggest winner from the weekend and showcased profound ability on both sides of the ball. The hit tool produced barrel after barrel all weekend long with present doubles strength to the gaps and evident power upside to the pull side. Quick, whippy hands produce above average bat speed that should only increase as the frame continues to fill out. On the bump, the fastball got up to 84 with feel for the secondary that should increase as more innings get under his belt. Highly athletic makeup with game-changing ability on both sides of the ball.

Reece OHalloran 1B / OF / Archmere Academy, DE / 2028Tournament Stats: .375 AVG, 1 2B A player that might be the most intriguing new face to the MD/DE 2028 class rankings, the physical 5-foot-10, 175-pound left-handed hitter impressed immensely all weekend long. The approach is to the middle with doubles power to both gaps, consistently spraying line drives to the middle all weekend long. The hands/wrists are evidently strong and the consistent ability to just “flick” loud line drives to all fields is something that stood out. Profound strength with an above average approach that should see power numbers skyrocket as the fall months drag on.

Noah Tomasino 3B / RHP / The Park School of Baltimore, MD / 2028Tournament Stats: .667 AVG, 1 2B, 1 RBI Huge fan of this hit tool. Smooth, fluid, yet explosive hands at the dish allow for power upside to be through the roof out of this left-handed stroke. Possessing advanced barrel feel, it seemed that every AB throughout the weekend produced loud contact. This is a high average hit tool that should see power numbers increase as more strength is added to the frame, making this a can’t miss bat to watch throughout this class.
