Ontario Future Games Trials III: Quick Hits
April 23, 2025
On Monday, April 21st, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted it's fourth of five Future Games Trials with the Ontario Future Games Trials III hosted at The Athlete's Turf, home of the Ontario Blue Jays, in Mississauga, Ontario.
This event featured roughly 80 prospects in the 2026 - 2028 classes and it was another strong group of players, both on the positional and pitching side, competing for a spot on one of Canada's two teams heading to the Future Games in late July... The Canadian Future Games team (2027/2028 prospects) and Canada's Senior Future Games team (2026 prospects). Players attending Future Games Trials events also qualify to be selected for other marquee events including the New York State Games (NY), NorthEast Senior Games (NY), West Coast Games (CA), Super Sophomore Games (OH) and more.
All player ran through a full workout that included batting practice and bullpens captured on our TrackMan, as well as 30-yard springs captured by VALD Performance and positional metrics. Over the next several days we'll be highlighting top performers from the event within our post-event analysis. Stay locked into our social media channels over the next several days as we continue to push out video, leaderboards and more.
Earlier this week, we broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Pitching Data Dive and Positional Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we bring you scouting and video on nine standouts from the event.

‘27 OF Mikey Batiste (Ontario Blue Jays): ‘27 OF Mikey Batiste continues to standout as one of the premiere prospects in the class and comes with tons of projection at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. The Ontario Blue Jays product was the clubhouse leader in both exit velocity (98.5mph) and second in outfield velocity (90mph). The switch-hitting outfielder was consistently on the barrel throughout his round with the top avg exit velocity of 93.1mph, Hard-Hit% of 67% and peak distance of 300ft. The arm strength is evident as we also had him up to 93mph from the position earlier this month. Tons to like here from Batiste and should garner Division I interest this upcoming summer as his recruitment opens up on August 1st.

‘27 SS/RHP Grady Jones (Canada Reds Academy): ‘27 SS/RHP Grady Jones is one of the top 2027 prospects in the Nation’s Capital area and comes with two-way abilities. The two-way out of the Canada Reds Academy program moves well on the mound and on the infield with arm strength playing in both areas. Strength to come at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds and the right-handed hitter has more of a contact approach right now that works gap-to-gap, generating a max exit velocity of 88.7mph. Jones was also up to 92mph on the infield and ran a 3.96 30-yard dash. On the mound, the right-hander sat 85-86mph with the fastball and paired it with a slider at 75-76mph (-0.3” IVB/-6.0 HM) and changeup at 78-79mph.

‘27 RHP/OF/C Tanner Morris (Sudbury Voyageurs): ‘27 Tanner Morris out of the Sudbury Voyageurs has really put himself on the map over the past 6+ months and put together a strong fall/winter that has propelled him up to No. 19 in Ontario’s Class of 2027 Rankings. There’s some impact in the left-handed bat, which has gotten quicker over the winter, and strength in the frame at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds. Morris put up a peak exit velocity of 92.2mph and peak distance of 278ft. Morris was also up to 92mph from the outfield, pop-times of 1.97-2.15 and ran a 30-yard dash of 4.37. The Sudbury native has really trended upwards on the mound where he sat 83-84mph on the weekend, along with a curveball at 67-68mph and changeup at 78-79mph.

‘27 C Jack Trudeau (Terriers Baseball): 2027 OF/C Jack Trudeau out of the Terriers Baseball program comes with some size and strength at 6-foot-2, 205-pounds. This was our second look at Trudeau over the past month and the strength plays at the dish for the right-handed hitter. Trudeau was working to all fields with the ability to lift at times to the pullside, culminating in a peak exit velocity of 94.2mph (86.7 avg) and peak distance of 313ft. On the positional side, Trudeau was up to 86mph from the outfield and posted pop-times of 2.06-2.19 and 76mph velocity. He also ran a 4.00 30-yard dash. ‘28 LHP/1B Jake Lamb (Fieldhouse Pirates): 2028 LHP Jake Lamb is one of the top prospects in Canada’s 2028 class and was in good form on Monday as the left-hander continues to excel on the mound. Length and projection stand out for his age at 6-foot-4, 198-pounds and the Fieldhouse Pirates product filled up the zone with the fastball at 82-83 T84. Lamb works with two different breaking balls; a curveball at 66-69mph and slider at 69-73mph. While it’s his work on the mound that captures your attention, there’s potential on the positional side as well where he posted one of top rounds of BP among underclassmen. The right-handed hitter generated a peak exit velocity of 97.7mph (88.9 avg), peak distance of 350ft, Hard-Hit% of 60% and Sweet Spot% of 73%. A must-watch player in Ontario’s 2028 class.

‘28 OF/RHP Westin Merritt (Whitby Canadians): ‘28 RHP/OF Westin Merritt continues to standout as a top player in the class and Monday may have been the best we’ve seen him to-date on the mound. Continues to grow and has added some size, now standing at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds and the strength translated to all areas of his game. The Whitby Canadians right-hander sat 85-86mph (2300+) with the fastball and was able to land all his pitches for strikes. ‘26 INF Matthew Perez Scott (Team Ontario Astros): 2026 3B/OF Matthew Perez Scott was one of the top performing 2026 positional players at the event and should be drawing interest of collegiate programs as his Grade 11 slowly comes to a close. Undersized at 5-foot-9, 185-pounds but makes up for it with his bat-to-ball skills, the way he plays the game and his defensive reliability. The right-handed hitter out of the Team Ontario Astros program was spraying hard-hit balls to all fields throughout his BP with a peak exit velocity of 97.2mph (91.1 avg), Hard-Hit% of 75%, Sweet Spot % of 75% and Line Drive% of 75%.
