VENTURA, CALIF. - With the 2025 CIF-High School baseball seasons coming to a close it's time for the awards and recognition season alongside the playoffs. In the last 6+ months (dating back to the start of Fall/Winter exhibition season through High School seasons end) I've had the chance to see over 70+ high school baseball games with eyes on talented players all over the Central Coast region of California down into the Northern region of Los Angeles and out into the High Desert with eyes on an extensive group of 2028 players.

All of these live looks have been documented within the various versions of Hardy's Hits and the California Scout Blog with my evaluations of the players I've had the chance to see play live. Pulling from those extensive looks at players seen across the 2028 class and those who made appearances in a  Hardy's Hits or California Scout Blog I dove into their statistical performances during their spring seasons on the High School Varsity level.

From those live looks and the statistical review I've organized these players into a first team and honorable mention group (based on statistical performance, my evaluations, accounting for competition level played against and additionally accounting for future potential). While projection of the future abilities for players is accounted for in my selection process the actual statistical performance while accounting for the division at which the players high school program competes against carried more weight than future potential.

For the 2028 class I will be honoring a: First Team & Honorable Mention. For the first team I've selected a catcher, two corner INFs, two middle INFs, three OFs, a RHP, a LHP, a DH and a Utility (two-way).

Note: This is not a ranking of the top uncommitted players in this region, but rather a recognition of the top performing uncommitted players in the 2028 class from the 2025 High School season who I've personally seen play and wrote up.

First Team:

Catcher:

+ Johan Reyes Fillmore High School

Reyes earned his way into the Flashes lineup as a Fr. where he played full time for a squad which earned a CIF-SS playoff berth out the Citrus Coast League. He made an appearance during the Week 11 version of the California Scout Blog. The LH hitting backstop posted a solid season hitting near the top of the Flashes lineup with a .262/.430/.393 slash line for the season including four doubles, two triples, driving in 13 runs and scoring another 15 himself with eight walks on the year.

Corner INF:

+ Elijah Roberts Santa Ynez High School

Roberts found a place in the Pirates lineup full time as a Fr. while holding down third base and saw time on the mound as a Fr., but his offensive performance earns him a spot as a corner infielder. I saw Roberts during Week 4 of the California Scout Blog in a matchup with their league opponent Cabrillo High Schoo. The RH hitter put together a solid season at the plate by hitting .293/.388/.328 with two doubles, nine RBIs, 22 runs scored and an impressive 21 stolen bases on the year.

Corner INF:

Osuna was a key cog in the Raiders lineup while manning the SS position (although slotted at corner INF for this team) on a squad which earned a CIF-SS playoff berth out of the Citrus Coast League and the first one in an extended period of time for the Raiders program. Osuna appeared in the Week 10 version of the California Scout Blog where his tools and performance made him to good to leave of this team. Osuna posted a .438/.538/.531 slash line as a full time player while adding four doubles, one triple, driving in seven runs, scoring 12, stole nine bases and walked 11 times versus just eight strikeouts on the year.

Middle INF:

+ Ryan Sheffer Oaks Christian High School

Sheffer was a multipe time standout in a variety of different looks from the Hardy's Hits during the Fall/Winter scrimmage season and then at the 2025 Central California Preseason All State event and then again during the Week 7 version of the California Scout Blog. Sheffer opened the year on the JV level at Oaks Christian, but didn't stay there long and once he found his way into the Lions lineup the RH hitter who is destined to take over the SS spot capitalized on his opportunity. Sheffer posted a .346/.500/.481 line with a double, two homers, eight RBIs, 18 runs scored, nine walks to just four Ks while stealing eight bases on the year.

Middle INF:

+ Theo Swafford Sierra Canyon High School

The LH hitter out of the rising Mission League Sierra Canyon program generated plenty of buzz in the leadup to his first year of high school baseball including an impressive look for myself during the Fall/Winter scrimmage season and an appearance in Hardy's Hits from late January. Swafford debuted as the No. 3 ranked player in California and at No. 26 nationally for Prep Baseball and this spring he backed that up by earning the Defensive MVP award for Sierra Canyon to go along with a strong year all spring showing his hit tool, approach and emerging power from the LH side. For the year Swafford posted a .366 average with a .924 OPS in the Mission League including 30 total hits with 26 runs scored in 28 games played while only striking out six times against high level High School pitching.

OF:

+ Dane Disney Oaks Christian High School

Disney also started the year on the JV level for the Lions, but about midway through the spring he found his way into the Lions starting lineup at the varsity level and the LH hitter made a significant impact to their run to a Marmonte League Co-Championship and berth in the CIF-SS D2 playoffs. Disney appeared in the Week 7 version of the California Scout Blog for his performance against Thousand Oaks in Marmonte League play. Disney finished with a .324/.490/.514 line while doubling twice, tripling once, homering once and driving in 12 runs while scoring 17 runs. In addition, Disney walked 12 times to just three strikeouts and stole five bases.

OF:

+ Dru Wilson Notre Dame High School

Wilson opened the year hitting in top portion of the Notre Dame lineup while holding down the CF position and was able to put together a strong session in the ultra-competitive Mission League during his Fr. campaign. The talented RH hitter appeared in the Week 1 version of the California Scout Blog. Wilson wound up posting a .261/.373/.377 line with five doubles for the spring, homered once, drove in 10 runs, scored 11 runs and stole eight bases while helping Notre Dame earn a berth in the CIF-SS D2 playoffs.

OF:

+ Jacob Sanchez Channel Islands High School

Sanchez hit in the middle of the Raiders lineup throughout his Fr. campaign while holding down RF for the CIF-SS playoff bound program. He made an appearance in the Week 10 version of the California Scout Blog after his performance against Carpinteria. For his Fr. season the RH hitter put up a strong .394/.459/.515 line with six doubles, one triple, drove in 12 runs, scored another eight, walked four times and stole four bases.

DH:

+ Quinn Melton San Marcos High School

Melton earned his way into the lineup for the Royals during his Fr. campaign seeing time as the DH/LF and appears headed to a future behind the plate potentially with the graduation of the San Marcos Sr. backstop. The LH hitter was solid during a Fall/Winter scrimmage season look over MLK Weekend and then appeared in Week 5 and Week 11 versions of the California Scout Blog. For the entirety of his Fr. campaign Melton posted an intriguing .277/.357/.434 line with seven doubles, two home runs, driving in 17 runs, scoring 15 runs and walked 10 times.

RHP:

+ Trevor Woodworth Ventura High School

Woodworth played both the OF and pitched for the Cougars as a Fr. for a team that earned a share of the Channel League title and a berth in the CIF-SS D2 playoffs. His numbers at the plate were quality for a Fr. playing full time on varsity, but what the righthander did on the bump this spring earns him a spot on the first team while making appearances in Week 1 and Week 9 versions of the California Scout Blog. Woodworth was utilized in a hybrid role for the Cougars starting and coming out of the pen for 19 IP with 26 Ks on the year walking just four batters and held opponents to a .174 average with a 0.74 ERA and earned two wins.

LHP:

+ Isaak Medina Santa Paula High School

Medina made a case to be the first team utility with his season swinging the bat, but earning the ace spot for the Santa Paula rotation on a team that won a Citrus Coast League title and putting up impressive numbers on the mound puts him as the LHP. Medina was impressive during my Week 8 live look from the California Scout Blog when he beat the Fillmore Flashes. For the season Medina threw 55.1 innings while striking out 74 batters while walking just 16 on the year. Opponents hit just 1.69 against him while he finished with a 1.01 ERA and had six wins during his Fr. season.

UTL:

+ Orion Gonzalez Castaic High School

Gonzalez stepped into the lineup from opening day for a Castaic program which is CIF-SS playoff bound and the Fr. contributed extensively to their offensive success while providing glimpses of his pitching prowess. Gonzalez impressed during a Week 5 of the California Scout Blog with the Coyotes knocking off the Foothill Tech Dragons. Gonzalez had strong numbers on each side of the game, but saw his most significant playing time a LH hitting MINF/DH posting a .329/.404/.500 slash line with seven doubles, two homers, driving in 16 runs, scoring 19 runs, walking seven times versus just nine Ks and stole five bases. In addition, on the mound Gonzalez threw 22.1 innings with 24 Ks to seven walks, opponents hit just .093 off of him and Gonzalez did not allow an earned run during all of his work for a 0.00 ERA.
