AHSAA Class 6A-1A Playoffs: 1st Round Playoff Performers

The opening round of the AHSAA Class 6A-1A state baseball playoffs delivered no shortage of standout performances as teams across the state began their championship quests. From dominant pitching to explosive offensive outbursts, players stepped up in big moments to lead their teams to crucial first-round victories. Here’s a look at some of the top individual performers who made a major impact and helped set the tone for what’s shaping up to be an exciting postseason.
Class 1A Top Performers
- Luke Murrell (Athens Bible) – Dominant two-way showing as Athens Bible swept Ider. Murrell struck out 12 over 4.2 innings on the mound, and added a combined 5-for-7 at the plate with a triple in Game 1 and two doubles in Game 2.
- Stone Talley (Addison) – Starred in all facets in No. 5 Addison’s sweep of Skyline. Went 3-for-4 with a HR, 3B, and 5 RBI in Game 1; added a 2-for-3 performance and a scoreless inning with 3 Ks in Game 2.
- Ace Gregory (Pickens Academy) – Explosive at the plate in a sweep of Spring Garden, going 5-for-8 with a triple, two doubles, and 7 RBI across the two games.
- Chaz Branum (Brantley) – Came through in clutch moments as No. 9 Brantley swept Kinston. Delivered the walk-off hit in extra innings in Game 1 (2-for-4, RBI), then went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI in Game 2.
- Jayden Parks (Brantley) – Another key bat in Brantley's lineup, Parks finished the series 5-for-8 with a home run, triple, and 4 RBI.
- Cooper Layton (Brantley) – Rounded out the Brantley trio with a 5-for-9 showing that included a triple, double, and 3 RBI.
- Mason Truesdale (Billingsley) – Dominated on both sides of the ball for No. 9 Billingsley in their sweep of Verbena. Tossed a 7-inning shutout with 11 strikeouts and added a 5-for-8 performance with two doubles and 5 RBI at the plate.
- Charlie Deaton (Autauga Academy) – Set the tone in Game 1 with a 7-inning shutout win, striking out 4 as Autauga took two of three from Maplesville.
- Carson Turner (Autauga Academy) – Excelled at the plate and on the bump. Went 5-for-7 with two doubles and an RBI; pitched a 7-inning complete game in Game 2 with 6 Ks.
- Caden Welford (Millry) – Put up 6 RBI with a triple and a double in a 3-for-4 outing to lead No. 3 Millry past Choctaw County in Game 1 of their sweep.
- Eli Burns (Fayetteville) – Went 3-for-3 with two triples, a double, and 4 RBI in Game 1 as No. 7 Fayetteville swept Keith.
- Ethan Jones (Fayetteville) – Blasted two home runs and a double in a perfect 3-for-3 showing with 6 RBI in Game 2.
- Easton Walsh (Florala) – Turned in a complete Game 2 win with 5 shutout innings, 7 strikeouts, and also went 6-for-8 at the plate with two doubles and 6 RBI in the series as No. 6 Florala swept Red Level.
Class 2A Top Performers
- Carson Harvey (North Sand Mountain) – Delivered a dominant Game 1 outing in a sweep of Belgreen, tossing five shutout innings with just two hits allowed and striking out 12.
- Landon Archer (Vincent) – Starred in all phases for No. 1 Vincent, going 5-for-8 with a double, triple, home run, and six RBIs while also striking out six in four scoreless innings on the mound.
- Calvin Johnson (Vincent) – Gave Vincent a huge lift offensively, driving in seven runs on three hits including a home run and double in the sweep of West End.
- Aiden Poe (Vincent) – Nearly untouchable in Game 2, firing five no-hit innings with 12 strikeouts and also chipped in with a triple and two RBIs at the plate.
- Lane Jones (Lindsay Lane Christian) – Put together a cycle-like stat line in Game 1 with a single, double, triple, home run, and three RBIs to help sweep No. 10 Pleasant Valley.
- Olsen Howard (Decatur Heritage Christian) – Had a monster Game 1 with three home runs and nine RBIs, then followed it up with four scoreless innings and six strikeouts on the mound in Game 2 as No. 5 DHCA swept Cedar Bluff.
- Ty Reynolds (Red Bay) – Stuffed the stat sheet with a 6-for-7 series that included four doubles, a homer, and six RBIs; also tossed five shutout innings in No. 6 Red Bay’s sweep of Cold Springs.
- Carson McGee (Red Bay) – Came through with a huge two-way effort for No. 6 Red Bay, blasting a home run and driving in four RBIs in Game 1, then striking out 11 over six one-hit shutout innings in Game 2 to complete the sweep of Cold Springs.
- Cam Isbell (Mars Hill Bible) – Nearly unhittable in Game 1 for No. 7 Mars Hill, going the distance for a complete-game shutout with 12 Ks while adding a 2-for-2 day at the plate.
- David Sellars (Westminster-Oak Mountain) – Led the charge offensively in a road sweep of Southeastern, going 7-for-9 with a double and three RBIs.
- Tucker Bradberry (Westminster-Oak Mountain) – Impressed with a complete Game 2 performance: six shutout innings, 11 strikeouts, two hits, and three RBIs.
- Ellis Hamiter (Tuscaloosa Academy) – Lit up the stat sheet with three doubles and seven RBIs in Game 1, then struck out nine in three perfect innings to seal the sweep over Loachapoka.
- Harwood Beeker (Tuscaloosa Academy) – Matched his teammate with a near-flawless series: struck out seven in three no-hit innings in Game 1, then went 3-for-3 with five RBIs in Game 2.
- Wells Ganey (Ariton) – Showed off his power as No. 4 Ariton took down Bayshore Christian, going 6-for-11 with two home runs, two doubles, and eight RBIs.
- Carson Lucas (Horseshoe Bend) – Dominated on the road with a six-inning, 13-strikeout outing that helped Horseshoe Bend sweep Highland Home.
- Austyn Miller (Cottonwood) – Set the tone with a Game 1 complete-game one-hitter, striking out 10 in No. 8 Cottonwood’s series-opening win over Zion Chapel.
- Braylon Morris (Cottonwood) – Closed out the sweep with another gem, tossing seven shutout innings with 11 Ks in Game 2.
Class 3A Top Performers
- Joseph Haiges (Whitesburg Christian) – Went off in Game 2 with a 3-for-3 performance that included a home run, two doubles, and five RBIs as No. 10 Whitesburg Christian swept Colbert County.
- Luke Holbrook (Whitesburg Christian) – Tossed a no-hit gem in Game 1, striking out 10 over five innings in a dominant series-opening win.
- Chase Utley (Whitesburg Christian) – Tallied four hits across the series, including a home run and double, driving in a run as the Warriors advanced.
- Connor Timmerman (JB Pennington) – Delivered in all phases, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and six RBIs in Game 1, then pitched 4.2 innings with nine strikeouts and added two more hits in Game 2.
- Aiden McAlpin (JB Pennington) – Had a breakout day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a triple, double, and five RBIs in the series sweep.
- Noah McClendon (JB Pennington) – Struck out 10 over four shutout innings in Game 1, then showed off the bat in Game 2 with a home run, triple, and four RBIs.
- Curtis Brooke (Gordo) – Delivered the clutch hit of the series with a two-RBI single in the fifth inning of Game 2 to seal the sweep of Piedmont for No. 8 Gordo.
- Jase Neel (Gordo) – Went the distance in Game 2, striking out nine and allowing just one run as Gordo closed out the series in a 2-0 win.
- Rylan McRae (Vinemont) – Starred in the decisive Game 3 with a 4-for-4 effort including a home run and seven RBIs, along with four shutout innings on the mound.
- Jake Hale (Vinemont) – Helped power Vinemont to a series win by going 6-for-10 with a triple and two doubles.
- Sam Jackson (Lee-Scott Academy) – Exploded in Game 1, going 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double, and eight RBIs to lead No. 6 Lee-Scott to a sweep of No. 9 Thorsby.
- Braden Martin (Lee-Scott Academy) – Dominated on the mound with a 12-strikeout, complete-game win in Game 2 of the sweep.
- Blake Bowman (Prattville Christian Academy) – Tossed a perfect game with 15 strikeouts in Game 1 and went 5-for-7 with three doubles and three RBIs in the sweep of Childersburg for No. 1 PCA.
- John Michael Mordecai (Wicksburg) – Picked up the win and the save in the sweep of Excel, also driving in three runs and tossing six strong innings in Game 1.
- Drew Colon (Wicksburg) – Fired six innings with 11 strikeouts in Game 2 and hit two home runs as part of a 4-for-6 series to help sweep Excel.
- Diego Bryant (Thomasville) – Went the distance with a three-hit, one-run outing on the mound, and added a triple, double, and RBI in Game 1 before collecting another triple in Game 2 for No. 4 Thomasville.
- Jeremiah Killian (Collinsville) – Posted a 4-for-7 series with a triple, double, and two RBIs as No. 7 Collinsville swept Rogers.
- Skylar Tucker (Lauderdale County) – Tossed a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts in Game 1, helping Lauderdale County take two of three from Fyffe.
- Brady May (Winfield) – Went 4-for-7 with a double and three RBIs and pitched five strong innings to help No. 3 Winfield complete a sweep of Glencoe.
- Charlie Cutler (Saint James) – Dominated in Game 1 for No. 5 Saint James, throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts and adding a double at the plate.
- Mac Blair (Glenwood) – Crushed three doubles and drove in five RBIs to lead No. 2 Glenwood’s offense in the sweep of Hale County.
- Hudson Campbell (Glenwood) – Stuffed the stat sheet with a 4-for-8 series, four RBIs, and four shutout innings with seven Ks in Glenwood’s sweep.
Class 4A Top Performers
- Damon Devine (Etowah) – Keyed No. 2 Etowah’s sweep of Fayette County with a complete performance: 6.1 IP, 2 ER on the mound, plus a 4-for-6 series at the plate with five RBIs.
- Jace Duckett (Madison County) – Crushed a homer and a double as part of a 4-for-7, six-RBI showing to help No. 8 Madison County sweep Good Hope.
- Keigan McClure (Madison County) – Had a monster series, going 5-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs while also notching a save with 1.2 hitless innings and four Ks.
- Memphis Scott (Madison County) – Reach base in all but one plate appearance in No. 8 Madison County's two-game sweep over Good Hope, going 3-for-3 with a double, home runs, two RBIs, & a walk in Game 1 and 1-for-2 with three walks in Game 2.
- Cooper McNutt (Haleyville) – Helped No. 5 Haleyville take down Hokes Bluff with five hits, four RBIs, and a complete-game pitching win allowing just two runs.
- Cooper Smith (Alexandria) – Was nearly unstoppable at the plate, finishing 6-for-8 with a double and six RBIs in the sweep of Dora for No. 10 Alexandria.
- Brayton Goode (Alexandria) – Tossed six shutout innings with 13 strikeouts and just two hits allowed in Game 1 of the sweep.
- Price Thornton (Deshler) – Dominated on the mound for No. 6 Deshler, firing a complete-game two-hitter with 12 Ks in the sweep of West Limestone.
- Garrett Reid (Deshler) – Added his own no-hit masterpiece in Game 2, striking out seven over five innings and going 3-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate.
- Olen Bryant (Oak Grove) – Helped No. 1 Oak Grove cruise past West Blocton by going 5-for-9 with a double and seven RBIs across the series.
- Brody Black (Oak Grove) – Fired a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 11 in a dominant Game 1 win.
- Fleming Hall (Trinity Presbyterian) – Was clutch in all phases: 3-for-7 with a double, triple, homer, and four RBIs, plus six innings of one-run ball in No. 7 Trinity’s sweep of Handley.
- Teigh Skanes (Jackson) – Provided the spark for Jackson’s offense, collecting six hits and driving in four RBIs in the road sweep of Geneva.
- Lance Moseley (Jackson) – Followed suit with a 5-for-7 effort including a double and four RBIs to back up the sweep.
- Colton Cain (W.S. Neal) – Struck out 12 over 6.1 shutout innings in Game 1 and chipped in a 2-for-3 effort with a double and three RBIs at the plate.
- Porter Nelson (Opp) – Powered No. 4 Opp’s series win over Bayside with a complete-game win on the mound and a 5-for-10 showing at the plate including a triple and four RBIs.
- Cash Harrell (Opp) – Lit it up at the plate, going 6-for-11 with two doubles and 10 RBIs in a monster series for the Bobcats.
- Bodie Giddiens (Bibb County) – Arguably had the best week of any player in the state, going 7-for-7 with four doubles, a homer, and six RBIs as No. 3 Bibb County swept Pleasant Grove.
- MaCain McMillan (Bibb County) – Tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 10 Ks and added a 4-for-5 series with two doubles and two RBIs in a dominant performance.
Class 5A Top Performers
- Evan Lightsey (American Christian Academy) – Went 4-for-6 with a triple, double, and all five of ACA’s RBIs in a 5-1 Game 2 win as No. 3 ACA swept Corner.
- Hunter Hancock (Scottsboro) – Tossed a complete game with one run allowed in Game 1 and later crushed two home runs with five RBIs in Game 3 as Scottsboro won their series over Boaz.
- Aden Ramey (Elberta) – Starred in Elberta’s sweep of Eufaula, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and then earning the win with 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 8 K in Game 2.
- Brady Cole Harrison (Elberta) – Picked up the win in Game 1 with 6 shutout innings, scattering six hits and striking out seven. Also added a double and RBI.
- Eli Quinley (Faith Academy) – Delivered clutch hits in both games, including a walk-off 2-RBI double to finish off No. 5 Faith Academy’s sweep of Andalusia.
- Seth Barnette (Faith Academy) – Went 5-for-8 with a double, three RBIs, and the go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning of Game 2.
- Samuel Davis (UMS-Wright) – Dominated at the plate with a 5-for-9 series, including a home run, two doubles, and seven RBIs in UMS-Wright’s road sweep of Headland.
- Andy Purvis (UMS-Wright) – Earned the win in Game 1 with a strong 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 8 K outing.
- Shea Darnell (Elmore County) – Went 5-for-8 with three doubles and two RBIs in No. 7 Elmore County’s sweep of Jemison.
- Hayden Jones (Elmore County) – Finished 5-for-7 with two doubles and four RBIs; also pitched three innings for the win in Game 2.
- Brooks McDonald (St. Paul’s Episcopal) – Stayed hot at the plate with a 5-for-8 series including two doubles and two RBIs in the sweep of Charles Henderson.
- Edward McLeod (St. Paul’s Episcopal) – Piled up eight RBIs with a homer and two doubles in No. 4 St. Paul’s sweep.
- Tate Johnston (St. Paul’s Episcopal) – Was perfect at the plate in Game 2, going 5-for-5 to help finish the series.
- Brayden Entrekin (Russellville) – Nearly unhittable in Game 1, tossing 6.1 innings of one-hit ball with one run and seven Ks, while adding two hits and an RBI at the plate.
- Ty Engelthaler (Russellville) – Fired a one-hit shutout in Game 2 with seven strikeouts as No. 9 Russellville swept Arab.
- Jack Doyle (Madison Academy) – Allowed just one hit and struck out eight in a six-inning shutout as No. 2 Madison Academy swept Douglas.
- Myles Johnson (Madison Academy) – Had a huge two-way series: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 9 K on the mound in Game 2, plus a home run and two RBIs at the plate.
- Graham Gulock (Leeds) – Went 7-for-9 with two doubles in the series and delivered the game-winning RBI single in the 5th inning of a 1-0 Game 3 win over Moody.
- Carter Samuelson (Springville) – Fired a two-hit shutout in Game 1 with five Ks as No. 1 Springville took two of three from No. 10 Northside.
- Grant Martinez (Springville) – Went 3-for-4 with a homer, double, and three RBIs to help take Game 1.
- Parker Frost (Lawrence County) – Blasted a homer and a double while drawing three walks; also pitched two perfect innings for the save in No. 6 Lawrence County’s sweep of Fairview.
- Jake Powell (Demopolis) – Filled the stat sheet with a 5-for-7 showing that included a homer, two doubles, and six RBIs in a sweep of Beauregard.
- Benton Howell (Marbury) – Threw 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts and added a 4-for-5 game at the plate with an RBI as No. 8 Marbury swept Shelby County.
- Ivan Hand (Briarwood Christian) – Turned in a complete-game shutout in Game 1 with four hits, no walks, and nine strikeouts as Briarwood Christian swept Holtville.
Class 6A Top Performers
- Jace Meadows (Hartselle) – Commanded the mound for No. 1 Hartselle with a complete game in the opener, striking out nine and walking none while giving up just one run on four hits.
- Levi Nickoli (Homewood) – Delivered a true two-way gem for No. 5 Homewood, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs while striking out nine in five shutout innings.
- Brooks Heatherly (Cullman) – Crushed two home runs and totaled seven RBIs to lead Cullman to a dominant sweep of Hazel Green.
- Owen Todd (Buckhorn) – Came up big in No. 6 Buckhorn’s sweep, going 4-for-6 with a double and five RBIs across the series.
- Andrew Oelke (Buckhorn) – Slugged a home run and drove in six RBIs on a 4-for-9 weekend to help Buckhorn advance.
- Paul Barnett (Mountain Brook) – Sparked the offense for No. 2 Mountain Brook with three extra-base hits, including a home run, and four RBIs in the sweep of No. 10 Oxford.
- Caleb Barnett (Mountain Brook) – Chipped in with a 3-for-6 effort at the plate including a homer and four RBIs, and added five innings with eight strikeouts on the bump.
- Blake Griggs (Fort Payne) – Hit for the cycle in Game 2, finishing 4-for-4 with four RBIs to help seal a sweep over Muscle Shoals.
- Griffin Winn (Fort Payne) – Tossed a complete game with six Ks and just one earned run while also homering and driving in three in the clincher.
- Jackson Price (Chelsea) – Dominated on the mound for No. 3 Chelsea with 13 strikeouts over six scoreless innings in the sweep of Brookwood.
- Cade Mims (Chelsea) – Went 5-for-8 with a home run and three RBIs to spark Chelsea’s offense.
- Cooper Henson (Saraland) – Threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks in a Game 2 shutout of Wetumpka.
- Samuel Vaughan (Hueytown) – Went the distance on the mound with seven Ks and no walks, and also tripled and drove in a run in Game 1 vs. Benjamin Russell.
- Newton Gardner (Spanish Fort) – Dominated with a complete-game shutout (7 IP, 3 K) and went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs in Game 1 over Rehobeth.
- Mytch Deacy (Spanish Fort) – Doubled twice, including a walk-off RBI double in Game 1 to lift Spanish Fort to a series sweep.
- Luke Payne (Stanhope Elmore) – Delivered a dominant Game 2 performance, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits in a seven-inning shutout win over Theodore.
- Brayden Dockery (Helena) – Led No. 4 Helena to a Game 1 win with a complete-game effort (7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 K, 0 BB).
- Justin Mullenix (Helena) – Locked things down in relief, pitching seven innings in a 10-inning Game 2 win to help No. 4 Helena clinch the series over No. 7 Northridge.
