Assistant Director, Canada

On Friday, April 18th, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted it's third of five Future Games Trials with the Ontario Future Games Trials II hosted at The Athlete's Turf, home of the Ontario Blue Jays, in Mississauga, Ontario.

This event featured roughly 80 prospects in the 2026 - 2028 classes and it was another strong group of players, both on the positional and pitching side, competing for a spot on one of Canada's two teams heading to the Future Games in late July... The Canadian Future Games team (2027/2028 prospects) and Canada's Senior Future Games team (2026 prospects). Players attending Future Games Trials events also qualify to be selected for other marquee events including the New York State Games (NY), NorthEast Senior Games (NY), West Coast Games (CA), Super Sophomore Games (OH) and more.

All player ran through a full workout that included batting practice and bullpens captured on our TrackMan, as well as 30-yard springs captured by VALD Performance and positional metrics.. Over the next several days we'll be highlighting top performers from the event within our post-event analysis. Stay locked into our social media channels over the next several days as we continue to push out video, leaderboards and more.

Earlier this week, we broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Pitching Data Dive and Positional Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on seven standouts from the event.

‘27 OF/RHP Theo Lima (Ontario Yankees): 2027 OF/RHP Theo Lima was the big winner on the day as his average exit velo of 98mph would have been the third best max exit velo at the event (107.1mph max EV). Lima put together a special round of BP and one of the best our staff has seen this spring as he was backspinning and elevating to the pullside with a Hard-Hit% of 100mph, peak distance of 363ft and exit velocity of 107.1mph. Showed some big tools beyond the bat as he posted the top outfield velocity on the day at 93mph and ran a 4.20 30-yard dash. It’s the positional tools that really capture your attention but there’s potential on the mound, as well, where the arm strength plays and the fastball sits 85-86mph (2440+). Also featured a breaking ball at 71-72mph (2800+), slider at 72-74mph (2650+) and changeup at 79-81mph. Ontario’s 4th-ranked prospect and should draw plenty of attention this summer.

‘26 RHP/OF Ben Sommerfeldt (Ontario Yankees/Uncommitted): 2026 RHP Ben Sommerfeldt was the clubhouse leader in fastball velocity as the 6-foot-2, 178-pound right-hander ran it up to 88.6mph. An intriguing uncommitted 2026 arm in Ontario, Sommerfeldt’s fastball sat 87-88mph (2380+) from an over-the-top slot that helps him create a vertical shape to the breaking ball at 76-78mph (2550+). The Ontario Yankees product also featured a changeup at 81mph (5.5” IVB/17.0” HM). On the positional side, Sommerfeldt posted a peak EV of 94.6mph, outfield velocity of 93mph and 30-yard dash of 4.00s. Overall, another good showing from Sommerfeldt who continues to trend upwards on the mound and it’s an arm our staff is interested to see outdoors this coming summer.

‘27 RHP/3B Richard Marshall (Ontario Yankees): ‘27 RHP/3B Richard Marshall is one of the more intriguing arms in Ontario’s 2027 class and posted the top FB velocity in the class at the FG Trials as he was up to 88mph. Strength in the frame and lower-half at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds and uses it to generate FB velocity in the 86-87 T88 range and there’s feel for a short, tight slider at 73-75mph (-2.2” IVB/-5.8” HM) that he was able to land for strikes. The Ontario Yankees right-hander also featured a changeup at 79-80mph and cutter at 75-79mph. The strength carried over to the positional side where he had a 99.9mph exit velo (91.9 avg), 330ft distance, was up to 90mph on the infield (event best) and ran a 4.09 30-yard dash. A name college coaches need to know in Ontario’s 2027 class as the summer approaches.

‘27 SS Lincoln Rose (Terriers Baseball): ‘27 SS Lincoln Rose was one of the bigger names to attend the Future Games Trials and the 3rd-ranked prospect in Ontario’s 2027 class looked the part with a well-rounded game. High-level athlete with projection in his game at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. The right-handed hitter was working to the pullside and was able to elevate to the middle, generating a peak exit velocity of 95.7mph (85.4 avg), peak distance of 323ft and Sweet Spot% of 89%. The glove stands out with Rose and there’s plenty of confidence in it with arm strength across the diamond at 86mph. Closed out his day running a 3.84 30-yard dash. A shortstop college coaches need to know in Ontario.

‘27 1B/LHP Korbin Greaves (Ontario Yankees): Another big-time standout at the event from the 2027 class, Greaves continues to flash true two-way potential 100mph exit velocities and FB up to 87.4mph from the left-side. Larger frame at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds and the right-handed hitter has the ability to impact the ball, generating a peak exit velocity of 99.9mph (89.2mph), peak distance of 313ft and Hard-Hit% of 65%. The Ontario Yankees two-way also ran a 4.09 30-yard dash and was up to 87mph on the infield. Plenty of potential on the mound as a left-hander, as well, where his fastball sits 85-87mph, along with a breaking ball at 76mph (2300+), changeup at 81mph (1.7” IVB/-16.5” HM) and cutter at 80-82mph (2470+). Overall, Greaves is one of the more interesting prospects in Ontario’s 2027 class and should make a big impact on both sides of the ball this summer for the Yankees.

‘27 3B/RHP Wes Crozier (Barrie Baycats): 2027 3B/RHP Wes Crozier is a two-way out of the Barrie Baycats program who’s developed really well on the mound since we saw him in the fall at the Baycats Scout Day. Crozier continues to grow, now standing at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds and the fastball has jumped seven mph since the fall as he sat 85-87mph at the Future Games Trials and was able to fill up the zone with the pitch. The right-hander also featured a curveball at 68-70mph (3.9” IVB/-13.4” HM) and changeup at 74-77mph. The secondary stuff continues to develop but there’s plenty to work with here from Crozier. The two-way also generated a max exit velocity of 92.4mph, was up to 86mph on the infield and ran a 4.24 30-yard dash. Name to know in a strong 2027 class in the Barrie Baycats program.

‘28 OF/RHP Max Van Dyke (Fieldhouse Pirates): 2028 RHP/OF Max Van Dyke really put himself on the map at the Future Games Trials and it’s a high-ceiling arm as he continues to develop and grow. The 14-year-old already stands at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds and it’s a clean, easy operation from the right-handed with a fastball that sat 80-82 T83 and there was overall feel for the zone with all his stuff. Also worked with a curveball in the 69-71mph range. Tons to like here from Van Dyke and there’s potential on the positional side, as well, where he posted a peak exit velocity of 87.7mph, 85mph velocity from the outfield and ran a 4.21 30-yard dash. Highly intriguing prospect in Ontario’s 2028 class and player to watch in the class this coming summer.
