Central Mississippi Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

FLOWOOD, MS - The Central Mississippi Rising Stars ID was held on Sunday, March 30th at GRIT Training in Flowood, MS. This event was an invite-only event hosting some talented prospects from the 2029-2030 classes in Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement while facing live hitters in simulated innings. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top performers from the Central Mississippi Rising Stars ID.

QUICK HITS

Chase Howard SS / 2B / CLINTON JR HI SCHOOL, MS / 2029

INF/RHP Chase Howard (Clinton, 2029) is moving in a really good direction with his development. Howard has a solid fundamental foundation on all areas and like most players his age, body maturity will give us a better understanding of what type of prospect he will be. He moves well with fluidity and looseness and looks to be able to slow things down when on the field. Howard has a fairly polished and synced up swing though could get into his lower half a little more.

Dawson Lewis SS / 2B / Northwest Rankin Middle, MS / 2029

INF Dawson Lewis (Northwest Rankin, 2029) was one of two 2029’s on our Junior Future Games roster last year and fit in very well. His progression is evident as he arguably had the best all around showing at the event with a 92 mph exit velocity, 82 mph throws on the infield, and a 7.12 60 time to start the day. There’s a pretty good chance this 8th grader sees some early playing time for the Cougars in the next year or so.

Knox McCardle SS / RHP / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2029

INF/RHP Knox McCardle (Northwest Rankin, 2029) was another standout this past weekend from Northwest Rankin. The athletic McCardle put up solid metrics though also had a very competitive look in each phase of the event. There is some development ahead but the foundation is pretty solid. The righty had the top velocity on the mound Sunday with a fastball up to 81 mph and stayed near the strike zone with some consistency.

Easton Pylate OF / RHP / VANCLEAVE MIDDLE SCHOOL, MS / 2029

RHP/OF Easton Pylate (Vancleave, 2029) had impressive numbers across the board on Sunday including an 89 mph exit velocity, 7.35 60 time, and 87 mph throw from the outfield but what stood out to our staff was his work on the mound. His delivery is what it should look like at this age. There was a fluidity to his actions, looseness and length to his arm action and upside all around. The lean righty will be a player we keep tabs on moving forward.

Aden Bell RHP / SS / Hartfield Academy, MS / 2029

RHP Aden Bell (Hartfield Academy, 2029) was yet another impressive arm on the mound from our event on Sunday. One of the last pitchers to throw, Bell came out pumping fastballs with life in the zone. He stayed around 80 mph, which is very good for this age, and lived in the strike zone with his fastball. The secondary stuff is coming as he showed good shape with developing command of both the breaking ball and change up.

Christian Mumford SS / RHP / GERMANTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL, MS / 2029

INF Christian Mumford (Germantown, 2029) attended our Central MS Preseason ID in January and has already shown some physical progression including 8 miles per hour on his infield velocity. Mumford also was up to 88 mph with his exit velocity at the plate while using a mature looking swing with a middle to pull side, line drive approach. The athleticism is there, now as the body continues to mature, Mumford could begin to gain plenty of attention.
