Updated Illinois Power 25 Rankings

Illinois Scouting Staff

We’re now onto week six of the IHSA season, and a new week means an update to the Power 25. Our 1-6 in the rankings remain unchanged, and we really don’t see much difference until outside of the Top-10, with a handful of teams rising, some falling and two clubs making their Power 25 debuts.

Continue reading below for a breakdown of this Power 25 update.

RISING

+ No. 10 Father McGivney (20-2): Rising two spots to No. 10, the Griffins continue to roll with a 4-0 week. They saw two wins over Metro-East Lutheran (5-4, 20-4), along with wins over Carterville 11-1 and Belleville East 12-1.

+ No. 11 St. Laurence (16-3): The Vikings find themselves knocking on the door of the Top-10 after a strong 3-0 week, highlighted by a win over Indiana’s No. 1 3A team Hanover Central 5-0. They also saw wins over Latin 12-2 and Carmel Catholic 20-11.

+ No. 12 Fremd (15-0-1): The Vikings remain undefeated after a 5-0 week and now find themselves up to No. 12. They took down Conant twice (12-0 & 2-1), as well as Prospect 5-2, Hersey 6-3 and Stevenson 5-1.

+ No. 14 Lemont (14-3-1): Lemont is up a couple spots to No. 14 after a 4-0 week. Now sitting at 14-3-1 on the year, the Indians saw wins over Bremen (9-0 & 11-1), Shepard 12-1 and Plainfield North 8-2.

+ No. 20 DePaul College Prep (18-2): One of the biggest jumps in this update is the Rams moving from No. 25 to No. 20 after a 2-0 week. Their two wins came over Simeon 11-0 and Northside 5-4, and they will certainly be tested this week with their CCL Blue schedule picking up.

FALLING

+ No. 9 Lincoln Way East (15-4): East is dropping two spots to No. 9 after a 2-2 week. They did take down cross-town foe Lincoln-Way Central twice (2-0 & 5-1), but they also fell to No. 1 Brother Rice 4-0 and Bradley Bourbonnais 7-5.

+ No. 15 Normal Community (16-4): The Ironmen are down a couple spots to No. 15 after a 2-1 week. They saw victories over Washington 5-3 and Normal West 12-2, but also fell to West 3-0.

+ No. 16 O’Fallon (14-4): The Panthers are down five spots after going 1-2 this past week, falling to Belleville West 5-4 and Columbia 2-1. They did however beat Belleville West 7-6, and they have a chance to bounce back with a game against Freeport today and two against Belleville East later on in the week.

+ No. 21 DeKalb (15-4-1): The Barbs are sliding down to No. 21 after a 2-2 week. They took down Waubonsie Valley twice (12-10 & 5-2), but also fell to Waubonsie 1-0, as well as West Aurora 8-4.

+ No. 22 Oswego (16-4): The Panthers are down to No. 22 after going 1-3 this past week. Their lone win came against Plainfield North 4-2, while they fell to North twice (12-2 & 3-2). They also got knocked off by Kaneland 11-4 for the third loss.

+ No. 24 Downers Grove North (17-3): The Trojans slip four spots to No. 24 after losing a series to Oak Park-River Forest (L: 9-6, 8-4; W: 7-6). They also saw a win over Leyden 11-0 in some cross-conference action.

NEW TO THE POWER 25

+ No. 18 St. Joseph-Ogden (20-2): The Spartans are making their debut in the Power 25 at No. 18 as they now sit at 20-2 on the year. Perennially one of the top 2A schools in the state, SJO is coming off a 5-0 week with wins over Prairie Central 10-4, Oakwood 10-0, Pontiac 7-1 and Illinois Valley Central (4-3 & 6-0).

+ No. 25 West Aurora (15-2): The Blackhawks have been having a great season up to this point, sitting at 15-2 overall and sliding in as the No. 25 team in this update. Their big win of the week came against a ranked DeKalb club 8-4, and they also took down Bartlett twice (4-3 & 11-0).
