This Friday, Prep Baseball staff attended a matchup with plenty of talent as Lincoln visited Eastside Catholic. Both sides had strong starting pitching in what was a tense, close game for much of the night. Lincoln scored several runs late and came away with the victory, moving to 7-3 on the season. Below are scouting notes on some of the top players for each side.

Lincoln vs. Eastside Catholic (4.4.25)

Lincoln

'27 RHP/OF Zach Nelson
Nelson was the star of the night on both sides of the baseball, particularly offensively, where he went 2-2 with 2 walks, 1 run and 3 RBI. Delivered maybe the biggest AB of the night with a 2 RBI single to give Lincoln the lead in the 6th inning. Also got the start on the mound, where he went 4 IP, 2 BB, 5 H, 1 ER, 6 K. FB ran up to 86 MPH but sat more in the 83-85 MPH range from a quick delivery. SL at 70-74 MPH was dropped in consistently. Quick arm, fierce competitor throughout. Impressive look.

'28 LHP Ryan Perkins
Our first live look at the top-10 ranked freshman arm did not disappoint, as Perkins finished with a final line of 3 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 7 K on the mound. Lefty with some physicality sat 80-83 MPH with the heater but ramped it up to 85 MPH when needed. CB showed real promise with some depth at 70-73 MPH. Worked all quadrants of the zone from a repeatable delivery, elevating late in counts. Should be a force on the mound for the next several years.

'25 INF Kousuke Kasai-Ensley
Senior had a productive night at the plate, reaching base three times and scoring a pair of important runs. Loose, whippy swing from the RH side from a medium frame. Found a barrel to the pull side early in the game. As the game progressed, worked deep counts and showed plate discipline, working two walks. Made every play at third base with enough arm strength for the corner spot.

'27 INF Anders Diller
Lean, wiry frame looked the part fundamentally at the SS position with soft hands and a quick transfer to throw. At the plate, features a narrow, slightly open stance, with a long stride widening the base at contact. Quicker bat through the zone for size with bat-to-ball skills present. Sophomore that already hits near the top of the order finished 1-3 with a walk and run scored.

'25 C Zak Papathanasiou
Catcher showed maturity defensively, limiting the run game for EC while handling the arms well and stealing a few strikes with quick frames. Saw very few strikes to hit at the plate but took his walks, going 0-1 with 3 walks on the night. Senior will be important defensively and as a middle of the order bat this spring.

Eastside Catholic

'26 RHP Jay Baxter
Baxter showed some nice jumps in stuff since his previous look last summer despite battling through some control issues. FB sat 82-86 and topped out at 87 MPH from an athletic delivery. CH/CB were both used very sparingly, but CB showed some shape at times at 70-71 MPH. Quick-paced wind with an athletic delivery from a 6'2 frame. Uncommitted arm to watch, particularly if more control/command comes.

'28 OF Kobe Reese
One of the big winners in the preseason at PNW Preseason All-State already stands out physically despite his freshman status. 6'3 prospect with enough athleticism to play CF covered ground with longer strides and a plus arm for his age. The bat is the leading tool, with an efficient, balanced LH swing shown. Had some swing in miss in this one with a tough L/L matchup late, but still plenty to dream on for the top-10 ranked 2028 in the state.

'25 OF/RHP Will Crain
Crain was one of two Crusaders with multi-hit games despite being leaned upon primarily as an arm the past few seasons. Roped a double to the deepest part of the yard early in the game with a compact RH swing. Saw limited action defensively in the OF but made every play and showed off some arm strength in pregame INF/OF. Finished 2-3 with a run scored overall.

'26 C Ryan Long
Future Games alum looked the part of one of the top catchers in the Washington junior class. Stole several strikes with frames and moved well to block pitches on what was a tough night for Crusader pitching finding the strike zone. Compact, direct RH swing with some gap power lifted a double late in the game to try to spark a rally. Went 2-3 with a walk. Key bat and glove for EC.
