This Wednesday, Prep Baseball staff attended a matchup in Lacey as Capital faced off against North Thurston at The RAC. It was a back-and-forth affair, with Capital ultimately winning it in extras to keep their undefeated record in 2025. Below are scouting notes from standout players on both teams.

Capital vs. North Thurston (4.2.25)

Capital

'25 1B/LHP Jacob Muench (San Diego Mesa Commit)
The Prep Baseball West Coast Games alum showcased his power from the left hand side of the plate, highlighted by an RBI early in Wednesday's game. The lefty made several standout plays at first base, including a tough catch near the fence. Also came in to pitch the final three innings of relief, keeping hitters off-balance and securing the victory. Plays with a competitive fire and had his fingerprints all over Capital's win.

'27 OF Brooks Barker (Uncommitted)
Another Cougar that had a huge hand in securing the victory. Went 2-4 with 2 runs and an RBI from the leadoff spot, driving in the eventual winning run in extra innings. Struggled to adjust to offspeed but squared up the fastball for both knocks. Some twitch in the bat, meets the ball out front with bat speed. Plus athlete covered ground in center field despite a couple of tough-luck plays. Sophomore wreaked havoc on the bases as well. Impressive look.

'25 RHP/INF Lucas Redman (Uncommitted)
Some real upside shown on both sides of the baseball. Got the start on the mound, where he showcased a FB/SL combination. FB came from a low 3/4 slot release with sink at 84-87 MPH. Sweepier SL had plus movement and was effective when in the zone. Battled some control issues at times but real potential shown. Finished 3-5 with an RBI double offensively, with a quick, uphill bat path.

'26 INF Isaac Linville (Uncommitted)
While the tools didn't immediately stand out, Linville had an impactful game at 2B and with some quality at-bats from the bottom of the lineup. Taller frame with some present strength moved well, arm strength developing. Worked some deep counts and drew a pair of walks, scoring two important runs for the Cougars. Sets up in a narrow stance with a steady leg lift widening the base, followed by a flatter swing path.

'25 OF Gavin Dolan (Columbia Basin Commit)
Athletic looking senior had a productive day near the top of the lineup, finishing 1-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Stayed with an up-the-middle approach from the RH side, with some twitch at the plate. Saw limited action in LF but made the routine play. Uber-aggressive on the bases with three stolen bases overall.

North Thurston

'26 INF Zach Albright (Uncommitted)
Junior with some physicality was most recently seen at PNW Preseason All-State this spring. One of two Rams with multi-hit games on Wednesday, going 2-4 with singles near the start and end of the game. Frame allows for plus bat speed through the zone, allowing for hard contact consistently. Showed comfort at 1B defensively.

'26 RHP/OF Ethan Shaefer (Uncommitted)
Shaefer got the start on the mound and did a nice job working around some traffic and limiting damage. Showcased a four-pitch mix, but was primarily FB/CB throughout. Ran the FB up to 82 MPH, mostly sitting in the high 70's from a lean frame. Plenty more to go get as frame fills out. Quiet night offensively but had been swinging a hot bat before Wednesday's game.

'25 C/RHP Jaylen Kennedy (Lower Columbia Commit)
One of the bigger offensive threats in North Thurston's lineup delivered, logging a pair of hits back up the middle. Strong build in 6'0 frame. Was arguably most impressive behind the plate, making multiple tough blocks with some arm strength to control the run game early. Important piece for the Rams this season.

'26 INF Kole French (Uncommitted)
Shortstop with a smooth overall game impressed in preseason looks at PNW Preseason All-State, and looked the part in-game as well. Stays balanced in a strong lower half from the RH side with some quickness through the zone. Flatter, line drive approach with speed played well from the leadoff spot. Soft, fluid hands in INF/OF, with enough arm strength to stick at SS at the HS level. Uncommitted player to follow.

'25 INF Rudy Larson (Lower Columbia Commit)
Senior played with an easy confidence in overall game. Primarily a pitcher, Larson played second base and checked in with a hard-hit single in this game, with long levers moving smoothly and in-sync. Made the routine play at 2B, with plenty of arm strength to play any INF position. Developing athleticism. Key piece for the Rams.
