LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the California Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting a Hitter and Pitcher of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from around California. 

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes which will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches who are deserving of recognition but were not named Hitter/Pitcher of the Week.

HITTER OF THE WEEK

2025 SS Rashad Hayes of Bishop O’Dowd High School has been named the California Hitter of the Week for the second time this season after a stellar three-game stretch this past week.

The Stanford signee led the Dragons to a 2-1 week facing league opponent Encinal for two games and crosstown Catholic school rivals St. Mary’s for one game. Hayes finished the week with a .888 batting average, going 8-9 with five doubles. He knocked in four while scoring seven runs of his own. The shortstop also showed off the speed with three stolen bases. Hayes reached base all but once, collecting three walks and bringing his OBP for the week to .916.

On the season, Hayes is currently hitting .442 with a .529 OBP, .721 SLG and a 1.250 OPS across 13 games. He has collected nine stolen bases and nine extra-base hits with seven doubles, a triple, and a home run.
