Last weekend was the third annual Commonwealth Classic held on Saturday, April 12th and Monday, April 14th, at multiple locations in the Richmond area.

Today we would like to announce our All-Tournament 2nd Team. Eleven players from some of the different teams that participated in the 3rd Annual Commonwealth Classic.

Pitchers

Stephen Christopher RHP / Highland School, VA / 2025

The William & Mary commit has been working his way back this spring and this was quite possibly his longest outing thus far. While the Hawks were not able take the opening round game. Christopher did more than enough to give them a chance to win. Scattered three hits, one walk, zero earned runs, and seven strikeouts versus a talented offensive unit. The fastball was in its usual mid-upper 80's range, while the mid 70's slider was the biggest piece for Christopher on the day. The slider was the finisher on most of those punchouts and was the go to pitch late in counts.

Landon Turman LHP / OF / ABINGDON HIGH, VA / 2026

A huge performance from the East Carolina commit in the semi-finals. Turman made big pitches throughout his outing and showed some serious grit facing a talented Princess Anne lineup that had just had a come from behind win and had the offense clicking. The left hander was 86-88 early on and still holding mid 80's deeper into his outing. It was mostly fastball-changeup on the day, but he did mix in a handful of breaking balls. Turman tallied fourteen strikeouts, zero walks, two earned runs, and threw more than 70% strikes for the day.

Catcher

Ben Ackerman C / OF / Gainesville, VA / 2025

While Ackerman did not have a ton of offensive output during the tournament, he had some tough quality AB's, threw out a runner in the sixth inning, and handled every inning behind the plate for the Cardinals. During that walk-off walk he demolished a ball out of left field, but it was called foul. On what was a VERY close call, his would have been game winner was a potential game winning grand slam to seal the championship. Regardless, Ackerman is one of the leaders of this team, a multi year starter behind the plate, and without his leadership qualities and defensive ability, not so sure Gainesville brings home that title.

First Base

Jake Gunning C / 1B / HIGHLAND SCHOOL, VA / 2026

Gunning hit .375 on the tournament and had a big two RBI double in the Saturday evening game that would push Highland through to victory. The junior right handed hitter has the ability to impact the game at the plate with some contact skills, as well as plenty of power potential. In addition to playing first in two of the games during the tournament, Gunning handled the catching duties on Monday versus Benedictine.

Infield

Xavier Doon SS / 2B / PRINCESS ANNE HIGH, VA / 2025

There might not have been a hotter hitter on Saturday than Xavier Doon. It seems like every time he came to the plate it was a big situation and he delivered. For the tournament the Mary Washington commit hit .363 and delivered in the clutch. In addition to his offensive abilities, Doon showcased his defense at times, especially on a perfect relay throw to erase a big run at home plate in the semifinals on Saturday.

Easton Ogle SS / RHP / BENEDICTINE COLLEGE PREPARATORY, VA / 2025

The VMI commit is back this season for BCP and is the keys to the Cadet offense. On Saturday Ogle got the scoring started for the Cadets in their second game with a first inning leadoff homerun. In that game alone he was 2/3 with a homerun and triple, as well as scored three of the five BCP runs and drove in two of the five. Ogle hit .363 for the tournament and was the key reason why the Cadets won on Saturday night.

Joey Rogers / RHP / Highland, VA / 2025

After a rocky start in the first game of the tournament, the Wingate commit turned it up a bit, just like two years ago in the same tournament. Rogers three for five in those next two games with two doubles and got the offense started from the leadoff spot. In addition to his hits, he had two walks and a HBP in the afternoon game on Saturday, reaching base all four times for the Hawks.

Outfield

Wright Broadhead 3B / OF / Highland School, VA / 2027

The sophomore hitter had a big day on Monday, securing his spot on an All-Tournament team. Broadhead was three for seven, going three for three in their final game with two RBI and a run scored. Broadhead has been handling duties in right field for Highland, as well as holding more than his own at the plate. His tournament batting average was .429 and that is right on par with his season batting average of .413.

Jaerron Johnson OF / SS / St. Christopher's, VA / 2027

Johnson came out on fire to start this tournament, going three for four in his first game and stealing a bag. The St. Chris sophomore outfielder hit .300 for the tournament, right on par with his .327 season average. Johnson drove in and scored some big runs for the Saints in their opening game, pushing them through to the semifinals on Saturday evening.

Elijah Parks OF / LHP / ABINGDON HIGH, VA / 2025

The senior outfielder is a key piece to this Falcons offense. Parks hits in the two hole and is a versatile bat that can do a variety of things at the plate. He had a double in the semifinal game, as well as one of the few hits that was allowed in the championship game. In addition to some hits in key spots, Parks reached base via walks and HBP a few times and impacted the game on the bases.
