APRIL 20, 2025 | WEEK 5

For full scouting coverage from the Spring League, be sure to follow the hashtag #IASpringLeague25 on X. Below are some of the standout performances from this past week:

COMMITTED NAMES

Noah Davies C / OF / Boone High School, IA / 2026

Davies has shown as much firepower as anyone in the league. The DMACC commit launched his third #IABombSquad💣 in as many weeks. While some balls had been wind aided, Davies’ hit his into the teeth of the wind. He’s toned down some of the extra hand load movements he showed in the past and, this year, week after week he’s been driving the ball hard.

Garrett Luett SS / 3B / Underwood, IA / 2026

Luett might be one of the most overall dynamic athletes on the field at any given time but also looks like someone who can continue to increase his stock in college. The Iowa commit has a smooth stroke from the left-side, staying behind this ball to drive in a pair.

Aidan Vens RHP / OF / Des Moines Roosevelt, IA / 2026

The right-hander was up to 89 on the mound with multiple effective breaking balls. Athletic mover with a frame that has room to add as he matures.

UNCOMMITTED NAMES

Braylon Bingham OF / RHP / Pleasantville, IA / 2027

The two-way showed a fastball that was reaching up to 88 with some late movement as well as a snappy breaking ball that got him some swing-and-miss. The six-foot-two sophomore also added multiple hits on the day as well. Currently ranked 7th in his class.

Jonathan Carrasco SS / 3B / Ankeny Centennial High School, IA / 2026

Carrasco came into the Spring League with a new set of mechanics and it may have taken him a few weeks to get used to the new movements in a live setting. In recent games, he’s been squaring baseballs to all fields. In showcase settings, his max exit velocity has jumped this year from 93 at the Future Games to 101 at the Preseason All-State in March. He’s a 6.7 runner with a strong arm (90 MPH) in the infield. Certainly a name coaches should circle back on.

Matt Meeker OF / 1B / Waukee High School, IA / 2027

If it feels like we haven’t talked about Matt Meeker in this space this year, it’s because we haven’t – which is a weird thing to say about the top ranked player in his class. That’s partly because we could dedicate an entire article to his performances because there is so much to like about Meeker, whether it’s his physicality or the above average tools. For someone with the plate coverage that he has, he has also shown tons of patience too: This past week he collected four walks and drove one of the only pitches he saw in the zone for a hard single.

APRIL 13, 2025 | WEEK 4

The day started off blustery and windy, but eventually gave way to the kind of warm, sunny spring afternoon everyone’s been dreaming about all winter. Enough about the weather—let’s get to the action.

For full scouting coverage from the Spring League, be sure to follow the hashtag #IASpringLeague25 on X. Below are some of the standout performances from this past week:

COMMITTED NAMES

Taitn Gray OF / C / Dallas Center-Grimes, IA / 2025

Gray’s draft stock has been steadily rising since his Super 60 performance, but we’re only now starting to see him in competitive settings. Prep Baseball Draft HQ had him ranked No. 110 on its March draft board. That was before scouts got a chance to evaluate him in-game—and before Jack Bauer (ranked 128th) went massively viral for hitting 102 at LakePoint earlier this month.

A small army of scouts have been camped out in Grimes, eager to watch Gray go up against top arms. After a weather-delayed start to the season, Sunday finally delivered the opportunity.

Gray started the day at his high school, taking on-field BP for MLB scouts. One scout described it as “a very impressive round for a high schooler.” Later, he returned to GrimesPlex for 3T’s second game of the day and absolutely crushed a 3-2 fastball in the low 90s—launching it over the center field fence from the left side.

The big question scouts are asking: can he stick behind the plate? The bat should play at most positions, but catching adds significant value. Gray has the size and athleticism to handle a corner outfield spot or first base if necessary. Teams will also weigh his high ceiling against his limited exposure to top-tier competition—especially compared to players from warmer states. And with a commitment to Oregon and its strong NIL infrastructure, buying him out of college won’t come cheap.

Brooks McCarty LHP / OF / MOC-Floyd Valley High School, IA / 2026

The lefty sat 85–86 mph on Sunday, topping out at 87. Back in February at the Upper Midwest ProCase, he touched 90.1. McCarty has a mature feel for a three-pitch mix and tunnels a tight breaking ball well off his fastball.

Cole Moore RHP / C / Van Meter , IA / 2025

Moore recorded his top velocity of the Spring League this past week, touching 93. He’s got a short, compact arm stroke that hides the ball well and makes it jump on hitters. His slider, sitting in the mid-to-upper 80s, has sharp late break and gets swings and misses. Repeatable mechanics round out the profile.

Jax Theeler 1B / OF / East High School, IA / 2025

In terms of raw power, Theeler stacks up with anyone in the state. His 10 home runs for Sioux City East last season ranked second among all juniors. On Sunday, he lived up to the billing—crushing a pitch to dead center.

Tate Slagle SS / RHP / Algona High School, IA / 2025

Slagle is an intriguing athlete with versatility—he moves well in the infield, receives behind the plate, and has a cannon for an arm. But his future might be brightest on the mound.

He’s been flying a bit under the radar, but that may change soon.

On Sunday, while most eyes were on Cole Moore and Taitn Gray, Slagle went out and filled the zone. He worked both sides of the plate with a fastball up to 93 mph and tunneled a sharp slider off it, making for a tough look. He’s a fluid mover with a fast arm—traits that should attract more attention heading into the summer. Just ask Shooter Hunt, who recently named Slagle to his “Dandy Dozen Sleepers” for the 2025 draft.

UNCOMMITTED NAMES

Ethan Erickson 1B / RHP / BISHOP HEELAN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, IA / 2025

One of the top uncommitted corner infielders in the 2025 class wasted no time—blasting the first pitch he saw over the center field wall to start his day.

Dane Gosselink LHP / 1B / West Des Moines Valley, IA / 2026

Iowa’s top uncommitted left-hander had been quiet early in the spring league. He’d shown pitchability, but velo had mostly topped out at 87. On Sunday, he took a big step forward—sitting 87–89 and bumping 92 twice. With his frame, clean arm, and ability to pitch, the added velocity is a major development.

Stetson Kane OF / RHP / Ballard , IA / 2026

Kane tallied multiple hits across two games this week. He hits from a wide base with a simple hand-trigger swing. At the Iowa Preseason All-State, he posted standout metrics: 6.89 60-yard, 92 mph from the OF, and a 95.2 mph max exit velocity. He’ll need to add weight to his frame, but the tools are there and trending up.

APRIL 6, 2025 | WEEK 3

The weather cooperated this past weekend, allowing the Iowa Spring League to be played outdoors for the entire day. With warm temperatures came big-time performances—particularly on the mound—as multiple arms posted eye-opening numbers, including Ryan Stedman touching 95 mph. Offensively, the ball was flying as well, with home runs coming off the bats of Noah Davies, Beau Morio, and Kason Clayborne.

For full scouting coverage from the Spring League, be sure to follow the hashtag #IASpringLeague25 on X. Below are some of the standout performances from this past week:

COMMITTED NAMES

Noah Davies C / OF / Boone High School, IA / 2026

Davies continues to prove he's one of Iowa’s most intriguing bats. Earlier in the day, he crushed a no-doubt home run to center as part of the #IABombSquad💣, and followed it up with a hard-hit, deep single. Featuring above-average pop with a mid/pull-side approach and natural loft, Davies combines a confident presence with easy, repeatable mechanics that allow his power to play consistently in-game.

Bryce Pauly 3B / 2B / Davenport North, IA / 2026

Pauly, ranked No. 3 in Iowa and No. 183 nationally, continues to impress on both sides of the ball. On the mound, he sat 88–90 mph and touched 91, pairing it with a sharp 73–74 mph slider and an 80 mph changeup. Although he projects as a position player long-term, his ability to hop on the mound and command the zone with premium stuff adds to his two-way value. With elite hand speed and a whippy swing, Pauly remains one of the most dynamic athletes in the region.

Ryan Stedman RHP / SS / West Des Moines Valley, IA / 2026

Stedman showed why he's one of the most electric arms in the Midwest. The projectable right-hander reached 95 mph with seemingly effortless velocity, hinting at even more to come as he continues to mature. With his lean frame and smooth mechanics, it's easy to envision him as a high-priority follow moving forward.

Tatem Telfer LHP / 1B / Mid-Prairie High School, IA / 2025

Telfer continues to gain momentum this spring, running his fastball up to 92 mph on Sunday. The left-hander creates uncomfortable at-bats with his angle and presence on the mound, particularly when his breaking ball is on. As his velo trends up with the weather, Telfer is one to keep a close eye on.

UNCOMMITTED NAMES

Erik Anderson RHP / C / Ames, IA / 2026

We saw Anderson at the 3T’s Scout Day in August 2024, where he topped out at 82.2 mph. After an offseason of development, the uncommitted right-hander showed noticeable progress, sitting 85–86 mph and touching 87 on Sunday—a significant jump in velocity.

Brandon Bea OF / RHP / Davenport North , IA / 2026

The top-ranked uncommitted 2026 in Iowa and a Future Games alum, Bea continues to impress. He displays compact strength and above-average line drive pop, consistently delivering hard barrels to the middle and pull side. With advanced rotation and efficient mechanics, Bea shows an ability to produce high-quality contact. In the video below, he rips a single down the third base line—another example of his elite bat-to-ball skills.

Braylon Bingham OF / RHP / Pleasantville, IA / 2027

Bingham, a multi-sport athlete, is an intriguing presence on the mound with a long, high-waisted frame and fluid athleticism. Working exclusively from the stretch, he sat 86–88 mph with a fastball that flashed occasional run and sink. His hard-breaking ball (78–82 mph) tunneled well off the heater, keeping hitters guessing. He also mixed in a firm knuckleball that drew awkward swings, showcasing unique pitchability well beyond his years.

Kason Clayborne OF / 3B / Sioux City East, IA / 2027

Claybourne turned heads at the Preseason All-State with a 102.4 mph max exit velocity and continued to show why he's a rising star. On Sunday, he joined the #IABombSquad💣, launching a home run with effortless opposite-field power. Defensively, he displayed solid arm strength (82 mph across the infield) and ran a 7.13 60-yard dash, adding to his well-rounded profile.

Brody McInville SS / RHP / Urbandale, IA / 2026

A versatile athlete and standout performer from the Iowa Preseason All-State, McInville continued to show that his tools play in game settings. The uncommitted 2026 drove a pitch into the gap for an RBI triple, flashing his bat speed and gap-to-gap ability.

Will Morris RHP / C / Ankeny Centennial , IA / 2026

Morris, one of the top uncommitted arms in Iowa's 2026 class, continues to trend up. With a fastball sitting 84–86 mph and topping at 87, he works downhill with an over-the-top arm slot. His 12/6 curveball (72–74 mph) showed promising shape and depth. With moderate effort in his delivery and room for added strength, there's projection left in the tank.

Jack Wedemeier 3B / RHP / Waverly-Shell Rock Senior, IA / 2026

Ranked No. 60 in Iowa’s 2026 class, Wedemeier showed a compact arm action and ran his fastball up to 87 mph. The pitch worked downhill effectively, complemented by a crisp slider that he confidently doubled up on throughout his outing. His ability to get to his toe early on the backside suggests there may be more velocity in the tank with continued refinement of his movement patterns. As a sophomore last summer, he led the Go-Hawks staff with a 7–3 record and 53 strikeouts over 53 innings.

MARCH 30, 2025 | WEEK 2

From a weather standpoint, Week 2 was a lot like the first week. Play was forced indoors at the SportsPlex Norwalk where teams faced off in live at-bats settings. This week, we were blessed to have pitchers tracked by Trackman. We have also gathered the exit velocity data from balls hit by players.

COMMITTED NAMES

Brady Andrews RHP / OF / DES MOINES CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, IA / 2026

A 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games alum and Creighton commit, Andrews showed a fastball that reached 91.2 MPH with life through the zone. His combination of athleticism, arm speed, and polish makes him a high-level prospect with significant upside.

Anderson Schirm C / 2B / Pella High School, IA / 2025

Marshalltown CC commit Anderson Schirm jumped on a breaking ball for a loud barrel to the pull side, registering an 89.5 MPH exit velocity.

Colton Arndt RHP / OF / Ankeny Centennial , IA / 2026

The St. Thomas commit featured a compact and quick arm and topped out at 89.0 MPH (he was 90.5 MPH at February's Upper Midwest Procase). His fastball offers a unique shape with a combination of sink and cut, spinning at 1750 RPM, making it a challenging pitch for hitters to square up. Arndt’s arm action is clean and efficient, following a compact path with an over-the-top (OT) slot.

Beau Morio C / 3B / Xavier, IA / 2027

A participant at both the 2023 Junior Future Games and the 2024 Super Sophomore Games, Mario continues to impress with his advanced skill set. On Sunday, he showcased his ability to impact the baseball, recording multiple hard-hit balls, including a 91.8 MPH shot that traveled 330 feet and another hard liner at 88 MPH. At the Preseason All-State, he demonstrated high-level catch-and-throw ability, posting an impressive 1.97-1.98 pop time with a 79 MPH arm from behind the plate. With his combination of offensive firepower and defensive polish, Mario is a high-ceiling prospect to follow closely in the coming years.

UNCOMMITTED NAMES

Caylor Jones RHP / OF / Pleasantville High School, IA / 2026

Uncommitted 2026 right-hander Caylor Jones (Pleasantville) showcased intriguing pitch characteristics with advanced spin metrics and movement patterns. His fastball, which topped out at 83.5 mph, features late arm-side run with 16 inches of horizontal movement, making it an uncomfortable offering for hitters. Complementing it is a high-spin slider (2500+ rpm) that averages 17 inches of break in the opposite direction, creating a challenging east-west tunnel that is difficult to track. Jones delivers from a low three-quarters slot with a whippy arm action and effortless operation, projecting well for continued development as his velocity climbs.

Bohdy Colling RHP / SS / East High School, IA / 2026

2026 RHP Bohdy Colling (Sioux City East) features a heavy, sinking fastball that sits 83-85 mph, topping at 85.5 mph (87 mph at the Preseason All-State). His fastball generates significant downward movement. Colling pairs it with a short, quick slider in the 76-79 mph range, providing a sharp contrast to his sinking fastball. Colling’s combination of velocity, movement, and tempo makes him a tough competitor on the mound with the potential for further development.

Trae Houser RHP / SS / Ankeny Centennial , IA / 2026

Houser showcased an impressive arsenal on the mound, working 83-85 mph with life out of his hand. His fastball jumps on hitters, and he pairs it with a sharp 69-70 mph slider that features significant sweep, averaging 16 inches of horizontal movement. His Sweep+ pitch score of 108 was the second-best of the event, highlighting the advanced movement profile of his breaking ball. An uncommitted prospect, Houser’s ability to generate movement and command his pitches makes him a compelling arm to follow in the 2026 class.

MARCH 23, 2025 | WEEK 1

The opening week started off with the first set of games operating under decent weather before the morning devolving into an onslaught of ice pellets firing from the sky at a 60-mile-per-hour clip. Iowa's spring is truly a marval. The remainder of the day's competition resumed at SportsPlex West in a series of live ABs. Even with the transition, many players showed off their offseason gains.

COMMITTED NAMES

Ryan Stedman RHP / SS / West Des Moines Valley, IA / 2026

A projectable 6-foot-3 right-hander, Stedman brings a fluid and athletic presence to the mound. His fastball sits 92-93 mph, topping at 94, with a clean, full arm circle and quick hand speed out front. He pairs it with a sharp 79-80 mph curveball, showing feel for spin. Ranked No. 6 in his class, Stedman’s loose, easy mechanics and ability to work downhill make him a high-upside arm to watch.

Iowa commit.

Tatem Telfer LHP / 1B / Mid-Prairie High School, IA / 2025

In his first outing of the spring, he sat FB: 87-90, T91, mixing in a CB: 74-76, a SL: 79-80, and a CH: 80. His arsenal suggests strong pitchability, with his breaking stuff showing the ability to play up at times.

Arkansas State commit

Bryce Pauly 3B / 2B / Davenport North, IA / 2026

Pauly showcased his athleticism and offensive prowess at the Upper Midwest Procase, clocking a 6.97 60-yard dash and displaying a strong, efficient swing. He hits from a tall, athletic stance, maintaining balance and staying on pitches well. His approach allows for hard spray contact to all fields, with above-average power that projects well at the next level. A polished hitter with strength in the barrel, Pauly continues to establish himself as a high-level prospect in the 2025 class.

Indiana commit.

Gavin De Jesus SS / OF / Waukee, IA / 2026

A high-level athlete and 2024 Futures Games alum, DeJesus showcased his offensive prowess in an indoor setting, consistently squaring up baseballs with quick hands and a fast barrel. While his plus speed wasn't on display, his ability to jump on fastballs and make loud contact stood out. A dynamic middle infielder with advanced hitting tools, DeJesus continues to prove why he's one of the top prospects in his class.

Iowa commit.

Drew Owen OF / LHP / North Polk High School, IA / 2025

Owen took the mound at the Iowa Spring League this past weekend, featuring a lively fastball at 87-89 mph with clean arm action. He commanded a three-pitch mix, working around the zone with a 71-73 mph curveball and a 74-76 mph changeup. A standout athlete, he posted a 6.78 60-yard dash and showed his offensive tools at the Iowa Prospects Scout Day in the fall, displaying solid mobility in the outfield and some thump in his bat.

DMACC commit.

UNCOMMITTED NAMES

Henry Heller OF / LHP / MOC-Floyd Valley, IA / 2028

Heller showed impressive stuff this spring, working 83-85 mph with above-average arm-side run from the left side. His 77-79 mph breaking ball flashes depth, giving him a solid secondary offering. He operates with an easy, controlled delivery, demonstrating good body control and an inline landing to the plate. His short arm finish across the chest, adds deception, making him a tough look for hitters.

JJ Phillips C / OF / Pleasantville , IA / 2027

High-end athlete with impressive versatility. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash and showcased a 91 MPH arm from the outfield. On the mound, Phillips displayed a fastball with run and sink at 86-87 MPH, complemented by a short, quick slider at 76-78 MPH. A dynamic two-way talent with the tools to impact the game in multiple ways.

Jacob Luster SS / RHP / Ballard High School, IA / 2025

Luster is a two-way prospect with some upside on the mound. The right-hander features an 84-86 mph fastball with life. His athleticism as a shortstop translates well to the mound, showing a clean arm action and projectable velocity gains. A name to watch as he continues to develop.

Rhylee Schmidt C / 3B / Norwalk Senior High School, IA / 2027

With their short, compact action, catchers often transition into pitching well. While not necessarily a pitcher, Schmidt showcased impressive arm strength, reaching 87 MPH on the mound despite limited time post-injury. His fastball (84-85, T87) displayed natural cut, while his breaking ball showed sharp depth, hinting at a strong swing-and-miss potential. With continued development and refinement of command, Schmidt has the tools to be a high-level arm. A #PBSSG24 alum, his upside remains high as he gains more reps. Must follow talent.

Kai Valleroy RHP / Pleasant Valley, IA / 2025

Kai Valleroy is an intriguing pitching prospect with a high ceiling. He sits 89-92 mph with his fastball, showing a clean, long arm action and occasional downhill plane. His changeup flashes above-average potential with late arm-side run at 83 mph. Notably, Valleroy displayed a strong velocity jump from his previous 89 mph max in the fall showcase circuit.

His delivery features a paused rocker step into a high balance point, demonstrating solid body control. He gathers well over the rubber and aligns his hips to the plate, creating an efficient, repeatable motion. The clean arm path and present arm/shoulder strength at release allow for good projection moving forward, with moderate overall effort. Valleroy has an over-the-top slot, and he is expected to continue adding velocity as he matures physically.

Valleroy's combination of present velocity, clean mechanics, and room for growth make him a highly promising arm in the 2025 class.

Drake Gosselink RHP / 3B / WDM Valley, IA / 2028

84-85 mph fastball that shows carry through the zone. His slider, clocked at 73 mph, is sharp with late break and swing-and-miss potential. He demonstrates excellent command of the pitch, making it an effective weapon. Gosselink has a controlled delivery with a higher balance point, clean hand break, and a whippy arm action that provides quality extension out front. His high ¾ arm slot enhances his pitch movement, and he projects to add velocity as he continues to develop. Overall, his combination of stuff and mechanics suggests strong future potential.
