San Diego, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues on as we are in the thick of the 2025 CIF High School season. With that in mind, Prep Baseball California is continuing to highlight some of the top uncommitted class of '26 athletes for college programs to be following throughout the remainder of the spring schedule and into the summer. The player featured here is one of the hottest hitters in San Diego a little over a third of the way through the season and is a leader in mutiltiple offensive categories for his respected high school.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we turn our attention to uncommitted ‘26 C/OF Ian Brooke from Patrick Henry High School. Brooke has emerged as a cornerstone in the Patriots’ lineup this spring, occupying the 3-hole and delivering in key moments with impressive bat-to-ball skills and a knack for finding the barrel at a high level in game.
Brooke’s ability to generate hard contact has stood out all spring. Hitting out of the 3-hole, he continues to deliver in big spots, showing an advanced feel for the strike zone and the ability to consistently square up quality pitching. Through 17 games this season, Brooke is hitting .400 (18-for-45) with 3 home runs, 4 doubles, 17 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. His offensive profile is well-rounded where he’s reaching base at a .525 clip and boasts a 1.214 OPS. His power numbers have jumped from last season, and he’s proven to be a major run producer for a Patrick Henry team that’s currently 10-6-1 and heating up at the right time with league play officially underway.
My first extended look at Brooke came during the San Diego Preseason All-State (SDPSAS) showcase back in January, where he made a lasting impression with both his bat and arm behind the plate. Offensively, Brooke was among the top performers at the event. He finished in the top 10 in max batted ball distance (371 feet) and average hand speed (21.5 mph), which measures the speed at the handle of the bat. His swing has natural loft, and he generates above-average bat speed with good direction through the zone. His batted ball data backed it all up—Brooke averaged 89.9 mph in exit velocity with a peak of 95.9 mph, consistently hitting the ball hard and with intent. Those same traits have translated into game action this spring in each of my viewings of Patrick Henry, where he continues to be a force in the middle of the lineup. In the games I have seen, Brooke has had multiple barrels, including a pull-side HR against Mt. Carmel on March 10th.
Defensively, Brooke projects as a high-quality catching prospect with improving receiving and blocking skills, and a strong, accurate arm that plays in live game settings. At SDPSAS, he posted the top catcher velocity at 77 mph and finished 2nd in average pop time (1.97–2.09). In a live game this spring, I had him at 2.00–2.12 with carry and accuracy to the bag, consistently keeping runners honest. He’s a vocal leader behind the plate, works well with his pitchers, and shows strong awareness for the position, rarely letting balls get past him and showing clean, repeatable transfer mechanics.
In addition to his work behind the dish, Brooke’s athleticism and versatility allow him to contribute in the outfield, where he’s logged time in LF this season. His athletic profile, backed by his status as a two-sport athlete (football), shows up immediately when he’s in the OF. He moves well, takes clean routes, and has the arm strength to handle a corner OF spot with confidence. His ability to handle both catching duties and outfield responsibilities makes him a valuable asset on any roster, giving him a strong secondary position to fall back on while maintaining long-term projection behind the plate.
With his well-rounded skill set, high offensive ceiling, and defensive versatility, Brooke checks a lot of boxes for college programs looking to add a polished, athletic catcher with pop in the bat and leadership behind the plate. He’s shown the ability to perform in showcase settings and produce in live game action, and he continues to trend upward as a key contributor for a competitive Patrick Henry squad. As the Patriots push toward postseason contention, Brooke’s impact will be felt on both sides of the ball—and is an uncommitted 2026 name to follow closely in the San Diego Section.

Scouting Report
Brooke has started off the year hot and is showing no signs of slowing down. Facing good velo and one of the better arms in San Diego, Brooke looked unfazed at the plate. He finished the day 2/4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs. Brooke displayed his ability to drive the ball with power to all sides of the field, hitting deep gap shot doubles to the left-center and right-center gap. His stance and stride are simple and efficient as he had no trouble catching up to the high 80’s heaters. He was also able to showcase the arm, gunning a runner trying to take second.
Brooke was the spark behind Patrick Henry’s offense, delivering a 3-for-4 performance in a game where every hit was driven with authority. His biggest moment came when he crushed a pull-side home run, a blast that got out in a hurry. Beyond the homer, he laced two more well-struck singles, proving once again that he’s consistently on the barrel and a tough out at the plate which is where he has been in all 3 games to start 2025. Brooke was responsible for driving in 4 of the 5 runs against Mt. Carmel. As a versatile two-sport athlete, he brings a combination of strength, athleticism, and a mature approach, which makes him a key asset in the Patriots lineup. With Patrick Henry featuring a deep and talented offense, and this being Brooke’s first year on varsity as a junior, he might not always be the first name mentioned—but he now absolutely should be in that conversation. He’s off to a red-hot start, now 5-for-9 on the season with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs in just three games. If this performance is any indication, he’s proving to be one of the Patriots’ most reliable and dangerous bats moving forward.
