MONDAY, APRIL 14TH

+ Beckett Haselhuhn (2027, Rossview) We got our first look at Haselhuhn last summer at the Clarksville Summer ID and he has been a guy that we have kept on our radar going into the spring. Well the sophomore has certainly exceeded our expectations as he has been a big part of Rossview’s success this season. He has been trusted into the number 1 role sooner than expected and getting your first taste of Rossview vs. Clarksville is always going to bring some extra emotions and jitters, especially when this was his first start on the mound in the historic series. Getting the nod for Game 1, Haselhaun didn’t start out the way that he hoped. Giving up a leadoff base knock to a super mature hitter in Kirk Weatherford, he would then walk the next batter, plunk the next batter and then walk two more and before you know it, it is 2-0 with 0 outs in the first inning. However, he would settle down and strike out the next 2 of 3 hitters to limit the damage without allowing another run that inning. Inning 2 was a little of the same where he gives up a lead off single before walking another batter and then hitting two more batters in a row, then striking out 2 of the final 3 batters in the frame. Haselhaun bobbed and weaved and although didn’t have the outing that he had hoped for, he showed a lot of things to like that left me very intrigued walking out of a heavy rain suspended game. He would finish the outing pitching 3 innings with 6 hits given up, 4 walks with another 3 hit by pitches. Not great, but I think this will ultimately serve him in the long run and definitely in this crosstown matchup in the future, where everyone in town comes to watch. I am a fan of the projection where he currently stands 6 foot 2 at about 220 pounds. He lived 87-89 with the fastball, while topping 91 a few times. Was a fan of the offspeed where he showcased a slider at 75-76 that generated some weak contact when in the zone and the changeup that showed future signs of progression coming in at 83-84. He will be someone that we continue to monitor for the rest of the season and into the summer.
