The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
Take a look at a few games and players that stood out over the past week of play.

Colonial Forge
|
Michael Guckian OF / RHP / COLONIAL FORGE HIGH, VA / 2026Guckian is a strong and physical presence in the middle of Colonial Forge's lineup. His setup is relaxed and balanced, with some rhythm in the hands, before firing through the zone with a whippy, uphill barrel path. He picked up two hits on the night to help contribute to the victory.

Dylan McCarthy 1B / RHP / Colonial Forge, VA / 2025The William and Mary commit has an imposing 6-foot-6 frame. He has a longer arm action from a high three-quarters slot, with normal effort level delivery. McCarthy showed feel for all quadrants of the zone with his fastball, which he relied on for the majority of his outing. At times, he flashed a slider at 76 to 77 mph and a changeup at 75 to 76 mph. Over his four innings of work, he allowed just one earned run.

Brock Stempin RHP / 1B / COLONIAL FORGE HIGH, VA / 2025Coming in relief for Colonial Forge was yet another imposing 6-foot-6 right-handed pitcher. The Concord University commit has an in-control, stretch-only delivery with a compact arm action from a high three-quarters slot. His fastball was up to 88 mph, collecting swing and misses. He mixed in his offspeed pitches effectively to keep hitters guessing, showcasing a tight slider with late depth at 75 to 76 mph, and feel for his changeup in the zone to both right-handed and left-handed batters at 78 to 79 mph. In his three innings out of the bullpen, Stempin overpowered the opposition, giving up no hits and striking out seven.

Evan O'Boyle RHP / 1B / NORFOLK ACADEMY, VA / 2027The sophomore has a projectable 6-foot-4 frame. He has repeatable mechanics with a longer arm action from a three-quarters slot. It was an intriguing outing on the mound, as he mixed his fastball and breaking ball well, showing feel for both in any count. His fastball sat 84 to 86 mph with some late life, and the breaking ball had a bigger shape to it. Hitting fourth for Norfolk Academy, he impacted the game offensively as well, just missing a home run to left-center field and settling for a double and a RBI. His setup is wide with a simple load and stride, and a level barrel path.

Steward

Brian Archer C / 1B / Steward, VA / 2025Every time I watch Archer, he consistently finds the barrel, and that trend continued last Tuesday. The George Washington commit is a presence in the middle of the Steward lineup. He has a 6-foot-1 frame with strength present. His hitting setup is balanced, with a simple load and stride, and a slightly uphill barrel path. Defensively, behind the plate, his hands are natural, and he has a quick, short arm action.
