Vancouver Future Games Trials: Quick Hits

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, Canada

On Wednesday, April 16th, the Prep Baseball British Columbia staff hosted it's first of two Future Games Trials events in BC with the Vancouver Future Games Trials hosted at Parkgate Park in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

This sold-out event featured roughly 48 prospects in the 2026 - 2028 classes and it was a strong group of players, both on the positional and pitching side, competing for a spot on one of Canada's two teams heading to the Future Games in late July... The Canadian Future Games team (2027/2028 prospects) and Canada's Senior Future Games team (2026 prospects). Players attending Future Games Trials events also qualify to be selected for other marquee events including the Pacific Northwest Games (WA), Super Sophomore Games (OR) and more!

All player ran through a full workout that included batting practice and bullpens captured on our TrackMan. Over the next several days we'll be highlighting top performers from the event within our post-event analysis. Stay locked into our social media channels over the next several days as we continue to push out video, leaderboards and more.

Earlier this week, we began our post-event coverage within our Statistical Analysis and Pitching Data Dive articles. Today, we will continue our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we bring you scouting notes and video on ten standouts from the event.

‘26 RHP/OF Jack Bello: Fresh off his trip to Arizona, Bello looked like he was in midseason form as he stood out at FGT, putting up loud numbers on the Trackman. His swings were impressive, spraying the ball with the authority to both gaps. When he got on the mound, he was arguably the easiest-moving pitcher all day. While his fastball ran up to high 80s, his changeup showed promise with more than 20 inches of negative movement. Overall impressive day for Bello, who headlines a strong crop of Whalley Chiefs players this season.

‘26 OF Carter Bestebroer: Bestebroer had one of the best days we've seen from him. The Chilliwack product floated around the outfield with quiet confidence, pulling down 88. In the box, Bestebroer led the event in exit velocity at 97.3 mph with a smooth left-handed swing. Carter is an impactful player in the class of 2026 that we look forward to following for the remainder of his prep career.

‘26 3B/RHP Dylan De Meyer: De Meyer put together some of the better rounds of batting practice we have seen this year in BC. The right-hander from Abbotsford left the yard multiple times, including to dead center field. Dylan posted a peak exit velocity of 95.9 mph and found the sweet spot 90% of the time, leading the event in that category. The bat has continued to play in game as De Meyer is hitting .393 through his team's first 10 games. The 2026 grad is an impact bat that we are excited to follow through the remainder of his high school career and beyond.

‘26 IF Tyler Gant: The middle infielder from the Twins organization displayed clean actions on the dirt with evident feel for the position. Gant showed an ability to consistently hit the ball on a line, finding the sweet spot at a 64% rate throughout his rounds. The bat to ball skills have shown to play in-game as Gant is hitting north of .450 through 53 plate appearances for the Twins this season. Still maturing physically, Gant is a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.

‘27 UTIL Brydon White: White has established himself as one of the stronger, and more exciting youngsters in the province, showcasing a power component for his age that separates him. Checking in at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, the Cloverdale product is still in his green stage, but he’s versatile and fun to watch. His swings were loud, and he was able to shoot gaps with relative ease. He let it fly from the outfield before getting behind the plate and letting his arm play there as well. That might be where he ends up when all’s said and done. Before the night was over, he jumped on the mound and threw well, living mid 80s with life and some feel for secondary. We’ll keep tabs on White, who continues his upward trajectory.

‘27 RHP Henry Pednaud: One of the more exciting arms in BC’s 27 class, Pednaud is a name worth keeping tabs on over the coming year. Standing a burly 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, his fastball lived mid-80s and came out of his hand easily. There’s some bounce to his delivery and he moves well for his size. He complimented the FB nicely with a mid-70s breaking ball (2500+) that he located for strikes and a splitter that has potential to be a swing/miss pitch. A good follow going into the 2025 season.

‘27 1B/RHP Nico Siegenthaler: Siegenthaler sticks out from the crowd, standing at 6-foot-5, 255-pounds. The Vancouver College (HS) sophomore is a weapon for the Irish on the gridiron, and an imposing presence on the mound for the UBC Thunder. Nico sat 85.1-86.6 mph with the fastball, topping out at 87.2 mph. Siegenthaler also showcased an intriguing slurve that he landed consistently for a strike. The big right-hander will be a fun follow as he continues to refine his delivery and arsenal.

‘28 OF/RHP Ethan Gray: Gray was the big winner at Vancouver FGT. Barely 15 years old, the Cloverdale product led the event in max fastball velocity at 89.0 mph, the hardest pitch we have seen from a ‘28 in Canada to date. Ethan has taken massive developmental strides in the past 6 months, with his velocity increasing nearly 9 mph since the Lower Mainland fall invite. Gray isn’t just a one-trick pony either, the curveball and changeup are both plus for his class with the ability to land both in the zone or for chase. Ethan is one of the most exciting 28’s we have thus far and will be a strong follow moving forward.

‘28 OF Alex Tamayo: One of the younger players on site, Tamayo caught our staff’s attention with some of the more impressive bat-to-ball skills. A modest 5-foot-6, 145-pounds, his plate coverage from the left side is advanced, finding a way to catch consistent barrels on both sides of the plate. Part of a talented Delta Jays Bantam core, it’ll be interesting to see how Tamayo performs this season as we continue to monitor his progress.

‘28 1B/RHP Douw Van Heerden: Standing at 6-foot-4, 222-pounds, you would be hard pressed to find a more physical freshman on this side of the country. Douw was a member of our Junior Future Games team a year ago and has continued to develop nicely. On the mound, he showed a quality 3 pitch mix. Douw features a ride and run fastball that sat in the low 80’s, topping out at 84.4 mph. The changeup and slider have both improved by a noticeable margin since the Vancouver New Year Invite in February. In the box Douw continued his trend of consistently elevating to the poolside with exit velocities in the low 90’s. The North Shore Twins product will be a definite follow on the west coast for years to come.
