LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the California Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting a Hitter and Pitcher of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from around California.

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes which will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches who are deserving of recognition but were not named Hitter/Pitcher of the Week.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

2025 RHP Cooper Berger of Santiago High School has been named the California Pitcher of the Week after a dominating performance against the No. 1 team in the country that pulled the Santiago Sharks back into the postseason conversation.

Berger, a St. Mary’s signee was on point from the outset, going six strong innings on just 67 pitches, limiting Corona to just one hit and one walk in the process. While Berger only struck out two hitters, it was his execution of the game plan that allowed him to pitch his strengths and help Santiago pull off the upset.

As Santiago eyes a trip to the postseason in a few weeks, Berger and the pitching staff have played a large role in their winning games in the always tough Big VIII league. Berger, personally, has been on a roll in his last four starts. In four consecutive wins in games which Berger has started, the righty has tossed 23 innings having allowed just three earned runs to go with 17 strikeouts, including the biggest win of them all last week.

Santiago also becomes the first school with two Prep Baseball California Pitcher of the Week award winners this season after Ben Lewis earned the recognition a week ago.

We salute senior St. Mary’s signee, Cooper Berger, for earning the Prep Baseball California Pitcher of the Week.
