The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors.

Pitcher of the Week (Week 8)

Barrett Coody 3B / RHP / Rosepine, LA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 3
The uncommitted sophomore first turned heads at our Lake Charles Preseason ID back in January, showcasing eye-popping triple-digit exit velocities at the plate. But this spring, he’s proven he’s just as dangerous on the mound. Last Friday, Coody delivered his most dominant outing of the season in a district matchup against Vinton. The right-hander fired a complete-game, seven-inning no-hitter, allowing just one walk while striking out 14 to power Rosepine to a 9-0 victory. He didn’t just shine on the bump, either. At the plate, Coody stayed hot, going 4-for-8 (.500) across four games with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 3 walks, and a stolen base. It was a complete two-way performance from one of the top 2027s in the state.

Player of the Week (Week 8)

Mason Leblanc 1B / OF / Ascension Christian, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 85 / POS: 2
Leblanc got things rolling last Tuesday in a tough 7-5 loss to St. John, going 1-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. He followed that up on Wednesday with a big night against Holden, finishing 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. The hot streak continued Thursday versus White Castle, where he went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and crossed the plate three more times. On Friday, he stayed locked in during a 14-1 rout of Southern Lab, going 1-for-1 with a double, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Leblanc saved his best for last on Saturday, capping off the week in dominant fashion with a 3-for-3 showing against French Settlement. He launched two home runs, added a double, drove in 3, and scored 4 times in a 16-1 win. All told, Leblanc went 8-for-11 (.727) with 4 home runs, 4 doubles, 11 RBIs, and 12 runs scored in a week to remember.

The uncommitted junior southpaw earned a win last week against district-foe St. Amant. Gurney tossed 6 innings allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.

The former Future Gamer and Texas A&M commit went 3-for-10 (.300) last week for the Bucs with a home run, double, 6 runs batted in, and 1 run scored.

The uncommitted junior had a big week for the Skippers, as they won all three of their games in Week 8. Marse went 6-for-12 (.500) with a home run, double, triple, 8 runs batted in, and 2 runs scored. He also tossed a complete-game (6 innings) with 4 strikeouts last Saturday against St. Paul's and earned the win.

Guidry picked up another win last week for the Lions against Church Point. Guidry tossed a complete-game allowing 0 runs on 1 hit with 12 strikeouts.

Drew Ferguson RHP / West Monroe, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 6
The former Future Gamer picked up two wins to bring his career win total to 36 and his season record to 8-1. Ferguson tossed a complete game against Benton on Monday and then turned around and beat Neville on Sunday. For the week, he tossed 11 1/3 innings and gave up 5 earned runs on 11 hits with 0 walks and 15 strikeouts. Ferguson has not walked a batter in his last 38 2/3 innings.

The senior right-hander had a monster week for the Tigers in Week 8. Rainwater went 8-for-15 (.533) with a home run, 2 doubles, 8 runs batted in, and 5 runs scored in four games. He also went 1-0 on the mound after throwing a 3 inning no-hitter against Pickering with 6 strikeouts last Thursday. Rainwater also tossed a no-hit relief inning against Rosepine last Tuesday with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
