Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week: Davis Collie

By: Peter Hamot
Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

Bradley commit and first baseman Davis Collie (Sycamore, 2025) is one of the more dangerous and talented bats in the entire state. He has been a key piece for the Spartans as they now sit at 11-4 on the year after going a perfect 5-0 last week, much to the thanks of Collie. The left-handed hitter went an eye-opening 15-for-20 with three home runs, three doubles, 21 RBIs, 14 runs scored, seven walks and two stolen bases - earning him this week’s Player of the Week honors.

Collie got his week started with likely his best game of the stretch, going 3-for-5 with three home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored in a 12-11 win over Rochelle Monday evening.

He kept things rolling into Wednesday where they took down Rochelle 11-1, as he went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.

The Spartans capped off a sweep of Rochelle on Thursday by a 13-4 margin, as Collie went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a run scored and three walks.

He finished off his week with a two-game set against Woodstock North, going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI, three runs scored and a walk in a 12-1 win. He followed that up by going 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, a run scored and a walk in a 6-5 win to close out the eventful week.

Collie has long been regarded by our staff as one of the best bats in the state, and he likely deserves to be in the discussion on a larger scale. There’s real feel to hit with the ability to hit for average, along with big power to all fields that should profile him as a middle of the order bat at the next level. He was a big winner at our Preseason ProCase this past winter where he took one of the louder rounds in attendance, averaging 95 mph and reaching up to 102 mph with a wood bat, also sending his furthest ball 398’.

Scouting Report

4/01/25

Bradley commit, currently ranked No. 44 in the state. Physical left-handed hitter, started at first base and hit out of the two-hole for the Spartans, finishing the day 1-for-2 with a loud RBI single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Easy strength in his left-handed bat, will be a power threat at the next level, covers the plate well and gets his ‘A’ swing off, intent through the zone with strong hands and intent to do damage. Soft hands at first base, judges hops correctly, made multiple scoops that saved outs throughout the game. Middle of the order power profile at the next level.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
