Southwest Guilford Walks Off Grimsley in Extras, 3-2

HIGH POINT, N.C. – In a tightly contested conference showdown, Southwest Guilford walked it off in the bottom of the 8th to earn a 3-2 victory and complete a two-game sweep of Grimsley on Friday night. Both teams entered the matchup with impressive 12-3 overall records, and the game lived up to the billing.

Grimsley got on the board first in the top of the 4th, when Sebastian Rodriguez led off with a double and scored on a Luke Ponder RBI single. But Southwest Guilford wasted no time answering. In the bottom half, with the bases loaded and one out, Aidan McPherson delivered a 2-run single, scoring Devin Hernandez and Ryan Robinson to give the Cowboys a 2-1 lead.

In the 6th inning, Grimsley struck again. Max Snyder singled with one out and Ponder followed with his second RBI of the night, a double to left-center that tied things up at 2-2.

The game headed into extra innings, and in the bottom of the 8th, Southwest loaded the bases via a walk, hit-by-pitch, and intentional walk. That set the stage for Graham Sutherland, who lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Ryan Maness and sealing the walk-off win.
