New England Diamond Notes: April 14-20
Lucas Ametrano started the season 0-6 at the plate, but then it all clicked in an eight-day period.
The Guilford High School center fielder drove in 14 runs with an 8-12 performance at the plate in that timeframe, belting two home runs, three doubles and a triple while scoring eight runs.
The seventh-rated senior outfielder in New England closed out the previous week going 3-5 with five RBIs, then picked up where he left off with two doubles in four at-bats, scoring twice and driving in two in the first of three games last week. On Wednesday, the Holy Cross commit launched a grand slam in his only official at-bat, scoring twice and driving home five. Ametrano closed out the week going 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

HOT STICKS
It was a near-perfect week at the dish for Garrett Mahoney.
The Lincoln-Sudbury senior left fielder went 8-10 with three doubles and a home run, scoring seven runs and driving in four while stealing two bases. The Assumption commit is now hitting .519 on the season with 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
There were other standouts with the bat worth mentioning as well…
- No better way to begin the season than a home run. That is what Adien Ciprian did in his first at-bat for Mount Saint Charles Academy. The 22nd-rated 2025 shortstop in New England, an Iona commit, went on to go 7-15 with three doubles and a triple, scored five runs, drove in four, walked three times and stole four bases.
- Kyle Leandri, the 132nd-rated junior in New England, was strong at the plate for Valley Westbrook. The 2026 shortstop went 4-6 with three doubles, a home run, two RBIs, three walks, four runs and two stolen bases.
- Cooper Tarlie had seven RBIs and scored five times during a 7-11 week for Belmont Hill. The 15th-ranked 2025 catcher in New England, who plays center field for Belmont Hill, had a double, triple and home run along with two stolen bases. The William & Mary commit also threw out a runner at home plate. Tarlie has now scored nine runs and stolen seven bases on the season.
- Eight RBIs and six runs scored boosted the season totals to 13 and 10, respectively, for Tate Bannish. The Deerfield Academy senior, a Tufts University recruit, was 7-13 during the week.
- Petey Silverman and Matt Weitzman formed a nice one-two punch for Tilton Prep this past week. Silverman, the leadoff hitter who is a senior second baseman, was 6-9 with four stolen bases while Weitzman, a junior first baseman, continued to hit for the season at a .667 clip going 8-12 with six RBIs.
- What a start to the year for junior shortstop Alden Weld, who went 6-8 with two doubles, four runs, three RBIs, three walks and seven stolen bases in the first three games of the season for Windsor.
- Tommy Martin belted his second home run of the season for Bethel during an 8-12 week with the stick that included four RBIs and four runs scored. The junior first baseman is now 13-21 on the year with two homers, 11 RBIs, eight runs and two stolen bases.
TWO-WAY STANDOUTS
Daniel Crossman fanned 12 in a no-hit performance this week for Burlington.
The junior right-hander, who is now 2-0 on the year with a 0.89 ERA, also did his part at the plate going 5-10 with a double and triple.
If that wasn’t enough, Crossman stole eight bases.
There were other players also worth noting that came up big at the dish as well as pitching this week.
- Will Parkhouse also had a no-hitter this week, fanning nine and walking one in a seven-inning win for Kingswood Oxford. The junior left-hander, who also plays first base, was 5-10 at the plate with six RBIs, five runs, two walks and a double. On the season, Parkhouse is 2-0 with 19 Ks in 17.1 innings.
- Ben Runstein of Woodstock Union fanned 13 and walked two in six innings on the mound, allowing just two hits. The senior was also 2-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
- Mo Hood of Green Farms Academy is now batting .500 on the year after going 3-4 with two RBIs. The senior, who plays shortstop and pitches, also threw three innings of one-hit ball to beat Greenwich Country Day School.
- Canton’s Teddy Shuman drove in five runs and scored four with two doubles, two walks and a pair of stolen bases during a 4-8 week. The junior 3B/RHP also threw 3.2 innings giving up two hits and one walk with three Ks.
- Jackson Healy threw a five-inning no-hitter with two strikeouts for Acton-BoxBorough Regional. The junior second baseman had three doubles as well this week with three runs scored and three RBIs.
- Harvey Reynoso gave up two earned runs for a victory for Winnacunnet, fanning six in eight innings. The junior, who also plays outfield, chipped in with four hits, an RBI and a run along with two stolen bases.
- The eighth-ranked 2027 shortstop in New England is showing off a big bat so far this season. Jack Swanson of Berlin was 9-15 with two doubles, a triple and seven runs scored this week. On the year, the sophomore is carrying a .545 batting average with 10 runs.
STRONG PITCHING
Matthew Chirumbolo is looking the part of a Division I college commit thus far this season.
The University of Maine recruit hurled his second complete game in as many weeks to defeat Canterbury. The Salisbury School junior right-hander went seven innings with nine Ks in a five-hit performance, giving up two walks and one earned run.
The 34th-ranked 2026 RHP in New England is now 5-0 on the year with 30 strikeouts and just four walks in 28 innings, sporting a 0.96 ERA.
There were two more good weeks reported when it comes to junior pitchers in the New England area …
- Justin Fanning had a no decision with five Ks in six innings against New Canaan, giving up three runs. The Masuk 2026 right-hander then picked up a save against Southington, the fourth-ranked team in Connecticut, allowing no runs on one hit over the final two innings.
- The 10th-rated junior left-handed pitcher in New England fired a one-hitter last week. Luca Stavrevski beat Cheshire with a five-inning eight-strikeout performance for Notre Dame High, walking five.
YOUTH SHINES
Kaiden McCarthy fired a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks in a six-inning 7-2 Vermont Academy win over Holderness this week, not allowing an earned run.
The number one sophomore in New England has been dominant on the season, giving up one earned run on five hits and five walks, throwing 13.2 innings and striking out 28 with a 0.512 ERA.
The 22nd-ranked 2027 in the country has also been nearly unstoppable at the plate going 9-14 with three doubles, five RBIs, eight runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
There were other sophomores and freshmen that came up big this week as well …
- While Garnet Matson had five hits and drove in five runs this week for Peoples Academy in Vermont, it was on the mound where the sophomore stood out. Matson struck out 17 batters in a two-hit outing to tie the school record. The sophomore right-hander walked two and hit a batter, allowing one run in seven innings. The 10th-grader also pitched part of another game, not allowing an earned run on three hits with seven Ks.
- Nick Andruchow of West Warwick had four RBIs and three doubles in two games, going 4-6. The sophomore catcher now has a .565 OBP and .727 slugging percentage with five doubles, seven RBIs and five runs during the team’s 5-1 start to the season.
- St. Mark’s leadoff hitter Evan Waden is off to a great start as a freshman. The young outfielder was 5-8 last week with four runs, four walks and an RBI, upping his totals on the season to eight runs scored with eight base on balls.
- Jonathan Stokes had a .571 OBP for the week with seven RBIs and a home run for Brooks. The sophomore 3B/RHP also pitched three one-hit innings with three strikeouts, not giving up a run.
