Quick Hits: 2025 Lake Charles Rising Stars I.D.
May 30, 2025
Moss Bluff, LA - On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to Sam Houston High School, to host our second Rising Stars event of the year, which featured prospects from the 2029 & 2030 classes. Our series of Rising Stars events serves as an identifier for our Junior Future Games team each summer. Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Vald Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball. Pitchers finished the day off by throwing a bullpen with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics. Below, we take a look at some of the top statistical performers from Tuesday's event.

Ian Davis RHP / OF / St. Thomas More, LA / 2029The future St. Thomas More Cougar had an eye-popping bullpen on Tuesday night at Sam Houston High School. Davis worked through a slower build-up in his delivery and used a quick arm action to release the ball from a 3/4 to high-3/4 slot. He flashed both a two-seam and four-seam fastball. His four-seamer got up to 91 mph and sat 88-90 mph, while his two-seamer stayed in the 87-89 mph range. Davis paired that with a gyro slider at 76-79 mph with spin rates up to 2471 rpm's, as well as a 78-79 mph changeup. A definite big-time arm talent coming out of the Lafayette, LA area.

Lucas Borges SS / 2B / New Iberia, LA / 2029The slick-fielding shorstop from New Iberia, LA showed well again on Tuesday and has definitely gotten stronger since we last saw him back in February. At the plate, he works from an athletic and balanced set-up and uses a toe-tap load and stride to get to center before delivering a direct path to contact with level extension. His max exit velocity saw an over 5 mph jump from February up to 91.1 mph. He also decreased his 60-yard dash time down to a 7.71 from an 8.06 in February.

Bennett Hearod SS / C / Sam Houston, LA / 2029Hearod was one of our favorite hitters from our Lake Charles Fall ID back in October and we came away impressed again after Tuesday night. The future Sam Houston Bronco starts in a balanced and upright stance before using a bigger toe-tap load to gather into his back hip before getting to center. He was extremely accurate with the barrel and produced hard contact from gap-to-gap with exit velocities up to 93.3 mph, which was good for best at the event on Tuesday. What was even more impressive were his swing decisions in this type of setting. Hearod showed a keen eye for the strike zone, as he never swung at a pitch that was outside of the strike zone. He's without a doubt one of the better hitters that we've seen so far in the state's 2029 class.

Tripp Letson SS / 3B / Barbe, LA / 2029Letson was another guy that impressed on Tuesday and was like a stick of dynamite in a still developing 5-6, 135 lbs. frame. The future Barbe Buc ran a 7.12 laser-timed 60, which was good for second best on the day and showed quality actions on the infield with throws across the diamond up to 78 mph. In the box, he worked from an upright stance with good rhythm in his hands and got his front foot down early during a simple load and stride. He used quick hands with present bat speed to deliver a flat path to contact with level extension, while working mostly to the pull-side. Letson produced consistent hard line-drive contact with a max exit velocity of 92.1 mph.
