New Jersey Class of 2026 Rankings: Update

TJ Hunt
Director, Prep Baseball NJ

We are due for a fresh update of the New Jersey Class of 2026 Player Rankings as the season bears down on playoff time.

It's a fun group to follow - we've said since they were freshmen that this is one of the deepest talent pools we've seen in a long time from the Garden State, certainly since the likes of Anthony Volpe and Jack Leiter.

We'll continue to highlight players as the playoffs unfold, but for now, let's dive into the top 10:

The Top 3

Lynam. Loggie. Lipoff. Three of the top names in this class as we barrel down toward the end of the 2025 high school season. Auburn recruit INF Guy Lynam (Gloucester Catholic) has been hampered by an injury for most of the spring season, making him mostly just a DH and playing some outfield, sparingly. Expect a return to full baseball operations this summer, however, as the national events start to heat up. Virginia recruit LHP Sean Loggie (Christian Brothers Academy) has risen significantly in this most recent update. The 6-foot-6 left hander possesses a fastball that has gotten into the mid-90s and has honed in his command this spring, throwing to the tune of 28.1 IP, 17 H, and 46 K. He's the top draft arm as we look into our crystal ball for 2026. Finally, East Carolina recruit C Braeden Lipoff (Gloucester Catholic) has paced the middle of the order for the Rams. In 59 at bats to date, Lipoff has 26 hits, 10 of which are for extra bases, bringing his average to .441 with a .712 SLG %. Lipoff leads the Rams in hits and RBI.

Gaining Momentum

Uncommitted RHP/INF Jason Amalbert (DePaul Catholic) has been as steady as they come to lead the Spartans to a 15-6 record and county finalist thus far. Amalbert is among the state leaders in homers with nine and his 29 RBI lead the team.

Rutgers commit Mickey Gilligan (Passaic Tech) and Virignia commit SS Zach Geertsma (Governor Livingston) have started to separate themselves from the bunch with their performances this spring. Gilligan, a transfer from Lakeland, has launched eight homers to date and possesses some of the most advanced catch-and-throw abilities as anyone in the class. Geertsma has led Governor Livingston to a 22-0 start. Out of the leadoff spot, Geertsma boasts a .458 average with seven homers, eight 2B, 29 RBI and 37 runs scored.

Dark Horse Arms

Pittsburgh commit RHP Tyler Bunnell (Robbinsville) has put up some impressive numbers so far this spring with 46 IP and 69 K. Long, lean build at 6-foot-3 195-pounds, Bunnell has been in the low 90s and expect him to make a jump this summer, too. Don't be surprised that in the next go around of this update, Bunnell rockets into the top 10.

Uncommitted RHP Cody Herman (Ramapo) has a true power sinker in the upper 80s and has flashed a 90 here and there. Another 6-foot-2, 215-pound lanky hurler, Herman is a ground ball machine.

Rutgers commit RHP Cole Marchetti (Northern Burlington) has been outstanding for the 21-1 Greyhounds. Through 19 IP, Marchetti has fanned 41 and allowed just seven hits and four walks. 6-foot-2 180-pounds and a fastball into the low 90s, Marchetti is poised for a breakout summer on the national circuit.

Finally, RHP Albert Maldonado Jr. (Elizabeth / Alexander Hamilton Prep) turned heads just before the spring season began at the Wladyka Pitcher Showcase - showing off a broad shouldered frame at 6-foot-4 181-pounds. Maldonado has thrown 22 innings, surrendering just 11 hits, punching out 21 and walking seven. Expect Maldonado to be a hot commodity this summer as well.
