2025 WA Scout Blog - O'Dea, Central Kitsap, West Seattle, University
May 22, 2025
The 2025 Washington Scout Blog provides information and scouting notes from Prep Baseball staff during the WIAA sesason. The running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and other notable performers. The Scout Blog is compiled of content and information gathered only from Prep Baseball staff. All featured games in the Scout Blog were attended by staff.
This Tuesday, Prep Baseball was in attendance at the SWAC for a pair of 3A state play-in games, as O'Dea faced Central Kitsap and West Seattle hosted University. Both games featured intruiging prospects and high stakes, with O'Dea and West Seattle both winning to advance to the 3A state tournament. Below are scouting notes on standout players from the games.
O'Dea vs. Central Kitsap (5.20.25)
O'Dea
'25 RHP/INF Davonn Abaga (Seattle University Commit)
The senior that has had a great spring on the mound got the start in a must-win situation. Abaga crusied early on before running into a bit of traffic, but turned in a great performance overall, going 5 IP, 2 H, R, 3 BB, 6 K. Featured an athletic, twitchy delivery from a compact frame. Ran the FB up to 87 MPH, slowly building up his velocity from the first to the second inning. Sat in the 83-86 MPH range. CB at 72-74 MPH flashed depth with an 11/5 action. The righty bat also went 2-3, 2 RBI, BB in a productive overall performance.

'25 OF Briggs Ellis (Uncommitted)
The West Coast Games alum has battled a hamstring injury in his senior season but can have a big impact when right, and he turned in one of the best offensive showings of the day on Tuesday. Did a nice job keeping his hands inside the ball to pull one deep into the LCF gap for an RBI double as his offensive highlight. Strong, stocky frame with enough athleticism for all 3 OF spots when healthy. Finished 2-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB in his standout day.
'25 RHP/DH Quincey Brown (UC San Diego Commit)
Brown had the swing of the day in this one with a towering 2-run HR down into the LF corner to extend the Irish lead late in the game. Normally a PO, Brown showcased his versatility at the plate, going 2-4 with a run and 3 RBI. Pull-oriented approach with a quick fire trigger and abbreviated finish from the right side. Plays with an easy confidence, with some athleticism present.

'26 INF Uriah Stringfield (Uncommitted)
A multi-sport athlete, Stringfield had a smooth glove shown early on in this one, and produced from the leadoff spot in a big way. Reached base 3 times, using plus speed to steal 2 bases. Hands stay tight to frame with a flatter RH swing, using speed with quick first step out of the box. Medium framed athlete. Finished 2-2, 3 R, RBI, BB overall.
'28 RHP Nolan Barrett (Uncommitted)
The freshman that impressed at a Preseason ID showing has seen quite a bit of varsity action already, and was put into a big situation in this must-win game. Presented a really uncomfortable look with long levers coming down the mound and a low-3/4, almost sidearm release. FB had heavy sinking action at 80-81 MPH. CH/SL offspeed combination, and though both pitches are works in progress, still generated whiffs at times. Finished with 3 K and just a single run allowed in 2 innings of relief to secure the win.
Central Kitsap
'25 RHP Tristan Short (Edmonds CC Commit)
The senior arm was leaned on heavily, and despite some mixed results showed flashes of an arm that could do well at the next level. FB sat 83-85 MPH from an over-top release, and the velocity held throughout the 5 innings of work. CH was best offspeed offering with some fade at 70-71 MPH, but flashed a CB at 68-70 MPH as well. Had some trouble avoiding barrels but did strike out 6 in 5 innings.

'25 C Riley Kolda (Uncommitted)
The lone Cougar to log multiple hits in this game, Kolda's unorthodox approach at the plate yielded positive results on Tuesday. The lefty featured a short, contact-oriented approach even when in leverage counts, using the whole field to spray line drives. Drove in one of two runs, finishing the afternoon 2-3 with a pair of singles and a HBP. Stole a couple of strikes on the edges behind the plate as well.
'26 INF Brayden Flaugher (Uncommitted)
Some athleticism present in lean-framed junior. Strong showing defensively, flashing early hands and funneling ball to belt smoothly during both warmup and in-game reps. At the plate, featured a higher leg lift load with a quiet head and hands. Pulled a double down the LF line to drive in a run late in the game for Central Kitsap. Junior to keep an eye on heading into the summer.

West Seattle vs. University (5.20.25)
West Seattle
'25 INF Lukas Cheha (Everett CC Commit)
After going 4-4 in a district playoff game attended by Prep Baseball recently, West Seattle's best bat stayed hot in this one, reaching base twice from the two-hole. Taller, long-levered frame moved well with plus bat speed from the right hand side. Produced hard contact with a single and tough luck out. 1B-only type defensively made the routine play. The senior that was a key part of the Wildcats' state championship last spring will continue to be leaned upon heavily heading into state.
'27 OF Cole Williamson (Uncommitted)
Physical corner OF type with some upside in the bat delivered a clutch RBI base hit in a game where offense was somewhat limited. Loose hands with smooth RH swing that was strong through contact throughout the night. Finished 1-3 overall, but could have easily had another hit or two with some better luck. Longer strides to cover ground in the OF, saw limited action in-game. Quiet confidence. Sophomore to circle.

'26 INF Ryan Typpi (Uncommitted)
The junior provided a spark at the bottom of the lineup, driving in a key run for the Wildcats and giving them a lead in the second inning that would hold for the remainder of the game. Medium frame with defensive skills that best translate to 2B at this point. Quiet, balanced pre-pitch with a toe-tap load and flat barrel path through the zone. Finished 1-3 with an RBI.

'25 RHP Oliver Heltzel (Uncommitted)
Heltzel delivered a clutch appearance out of the bullpen and was a big reason West Seattle were able to secure the victory. While far from overpowering, the senior filled up the zone and mostly limited hard contact. Worked exclusively from the stretch with a tighter, quick arm action and repeatable follow through. Final line on the night: 4 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 4 K in a great performance.
University
'28 INF Tanner Spradling (Uncommitted)
The freshman has already emerged as one of the Titans' best hitters this spring, and continued to show why on Tuesday, driving in one of three runs on the night. High leg kick from the RH side with a simple, direct approach. Got to a pitch up out of the zone and lined it up the middle as his offensive highlight. Finished 1-4, hitting in the middle of the order, and put the ball in play with some authority in every plate appearance.

'27 INF Luca Longo (Uncommitted)
Longo had arguably the most offensive success of any Titan, going 2-4 with a pair of singles from the leadoff spot. Lean, high-waisted sophomore had a simple approach from the RH side, using the whole field with feel for the barrel. Was busy throughout the game at 3B, making every play with plenty of arm strength shown. Productive performance.
'25 OF Logan Spradling (Spokane College Commit)
Another key bat for University this spring, Spradling had one of the offensive highlights of their night with a hard-hit 2 RBI single in the 4th inning. Short stride load with some quickness in the hands from the RH side. Some present strength and gap power. Finished 1-3 with 2 RBI and a BB overall. Held his own in centerfield defensively, but likely will profile to a corner at the next level.

'26 RHP Shaun Lee (Uncommitted)
An intruiging arm with a steady FB/SL combination shown, Lee shut down the West Seattle offense in his appearance out of the bullpen. Wiry frame with plenty of room to add strength, but already runs the FB into the low 80's. Featured an up-tempo delivery with some effective wildness. Impressive final line, going 3 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 4 K to keep University in it until the end.
