New England Diamond Notes: April 28-May 4

A no-hitter by Keeler Vogt was special in more ways than one.

The Greely uncommitted senior right-hander did not allow a hit and walked just one while striking out 15 in a 4-0 win over defending Maine Class B state champion Yarmouth.

While defeating last year’s state winner is great, the victory also avenged a loss to the eventual state champs in last year’s Class B South finals, a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat when Yarmouth scored a pair of runs with two outs and two strikes on the batter in the seventh inning.

The no-hitter capped a week in which Vogt earlier threw two innings for a save in a 6-4 triumph over Fryeburg Academy.

It has been an amazing season thus far for Vogt, who is 3-0 on the year and yet to permit an earned run in 16 innings, fanning 31, walking six and giving up just three hits.

So who else had big weeks? Read on…

STRONG PITCHING

Josh Misiaszek proved too much for the number one Class B team in Massachusetts.

The Belchertown senior right-hander allowed one earned run in a win over Pittsfield, giving up two hits and a pair of walks while retiring eight on strikes.

The Castletown University commit upped his season record to 3-2, fanning 31 in 28 innings of work. Misiaszek has a 2.75 ERA, holding opponents to a .186 batting average.

There were more good outings reported on the hill …
