Chicagoland Summer ID: Takeaways

On June 10th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Chicagoland Summer ID at Triton JC in River Grove, Ill. 50 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.

Today, we will be looking at the prospects that stood out to our staff within this Takeaways story.


Position Players

OF Daniel Wells (Proviso East, 2028) is an athletic 5-foot-11, 136-pound prospect who swung it well during the event. From the right side he showed loose hands, whip in the barrel, and a line drive approach - reaching a max exit velocity of 84 mph. 

OF Joseph Mueller (Barrington, 2027) had a loud round of batting practice at Triton. A physical 5-foot-11, 189-pound right-handed hitter, Mueller showed strong hands (21.3 mph avg. hand speed) and evident bat speed (71.3 mph avg. bat speed) with barrel strength (89 mph avg. EV) to pair. 

OF Max Nickle (Huntley, 2028) showed to be one of the top left-handed bats on the day. A trim, high-waisted 5-foot-11, 147-pounds with long levers, he showed athleticism at the dish paired with loose hands (20.4 mph avg. hand speed) and hard contact to the pull-side during his round of BP. 

OF Connor Krumrei (Oak Park-River Forest, 2027) had a loud showing at the event. Presenting a physically mature 6-foot, 207-pound frame with present strength, Krumrei was one of the event leaders in the 60 - posting a 6.99 run time. He then barreled balls repeatedly from the right side of the dish, showing the ability to go gap-to-gap with noticeable pop and leading the event in max EV (105.1 mph), average EV (96.3 mph), average distance (307 feet), max distance (418 feet), max hand speed (25.1 mph), average hand speed (23.9 mph), max bat speed (85.5 mph), and average bat speed (77 mph).

TWO-WAYS

INF/RHP Ashton Binz (Burlington Central, 2028) had one of the better all-around performances on the day. Standing at a long-levered 6-foot-1, 152-pound frame, Binz started the day by showing well with the bat, reaching a max exit velocity of 90 mph (avg. 81.9) while showing feel to hit from the right side. Binz also impressed on the mound as he sat 80-82 mph while topping out at 83 mph. His curveball showed life as it sat 69-71 with an average spin rate of 2319. He also showed a changeup that sat 75-76 mph while having an 80% zone percentage.

INF/RHP Mason Almazan (Providence Catholic, 2028) has made some strides in his overall game since we last saw him at our Preseason All-State: Underclass back in February. Presenting an athletic 5-foot-9, 144-pound frame, Almazan had one of the more polished rounds of batting practice for the event. He reached a max exit velocity of 90.4 mph (avg. 82.1 mph) while also posting a max batted ball distance of 329 feet. Almazan also hopped on the mound during the event. His fastball sat 79-82 mph with a max spin rate of 2322 RPM and having a max IVB of 14.8 inches. His changeup sat 73-75 with 94% spin efficiency. His curveball sat 69-72 mph with a max IBV of -5.1 inches and a max HM of -6.6 inches, showcasing the depth that his breaking ball offers.

INF/RHP Riley Cook (New Trier, 2028) is a long-levered 6-foot-2, 160-pound two-way prospect to follow from the event. He started his day by running one of the top 60’s for the event at 7.18. Cook then showed the ability to utilize his long levers at the plate and put up a line drive round, flashing barrel strength to the pull-side. He then flashed natural actions on the infield, paired with smooth movement patterns and one of the stronger arms for the event (82 mph). Cook showed an advanced pitch mix for his age. His fastball sat 82-83 mph with a max IVB of 12.6 inches. Slider sat 71-73 mph with an average HM of -11.5 inches and a max spin rate of 2354 RPM. His changeup sat 74-77 mph with a max HM of 13.7 inches while having a 97% spin efficiency.

PITCHER ONLY’S

RHP Theo Kellogg (Libertyville, 2026) came away from the event as a big winner. Comes in with a strong 5-foot-11, 216-pound frame. Kellogg was the leader in max velocity at 89.2 mph with a 2278 average spin rate on his fastball and a max IVB of 17.1 inches. He also showed a slider that sat 73-74 mph with an average spin rate of 2359. He kills the spin on his splitter as the average spin rate comes in at 1002 and sits 72-76 with a spin efficiency of 82%. 

RHP Gavin Fuscone (St. Charles East, 2026) is a projectable, long-levered 6-foot-5, 184-pound prospect to follow. His fastball sits 86-87 mph with a max spin rate of 2417 RPM while averaging out at 2263. Slider had a ton of movement as it had a max HM of -22.3 inches and averaged out at -18.3 inches while sitting 72-76 mph. Fuscone’s changeup sat 75-77 mph with an average spin rate of 1622 RPM.

RHP Frankie Pavlik (Yorkville, 2026) came to his first showcase in a couple of years and showed huge improvements. The strong 6-foot-1, 199-pound right hander sat 85-87 mph with a max IVB of 19.8 inches while having an 83% zone percentage and a 93% spin efficiency on his fastball. Pavlik’s changeup sat 75-78 mph with a max HM of 12.7 inches and an 85% spin efficiency. His curveball shows a lot of upside as he sits 72-75 mph with an average spin rate of 2462 RPM and an average HM of -18.8 inches. 

RHP Langston Booth (Loyola Academy, 2027) is a long-levered 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame that is a 2027 name to follow. His pitch mix starts with a fastball that sits 81-85 mph with a max spin rate of 2307 RPM and an average IVB of 11.8 inches. Booth’s changeup sits 75-77 mph with an average HM of 12.6 inches. He also showed a curveball that sat 69-72 mph and a max HM of -11 inches. 

RHP Sev Griffiths (Libertyville, 2028) is a lean 5-foot-10, 161-pound 2028 arm that showed intriguing stuff on the mound. His curveball sat 67-68 mph with an average HM of -18.7 inches. Fastball sat 76-78 mph with an average IVB of 14.2 inches and an average HM of 10.6 inches. Griffiths also showed a changeup that sat 70-74 mph with a zone percentage of 75%.

RHP Cooper Chapple (Waubonsie Valley, 2026) came to his first Prep Baseball event and showed very well. The right-hander lean, wiry 6-foot-3, 160-pounder sat 84-85 mph with a spin efficiency of 96%. His changeup sat 69-71 mph with an average HM of 15.2 inches. Chapple’s curveball shows a lot of potential as it sits 65-68 mph with an average spin rate of 2339 RPM and an average HM of -18.8 inches while having an average IVB of -12.7 inches. 

RHP Danny Raible (York, 2026) is an athletic 6-foot-1, 181-pound right hander that showed well at the event. His fastball sat 80-83 mph while topping out at 85 mph with a spin efficiency of 93%. Raible’s slider sat 69-71 mph with an average HM of -14.8 inches. Also showed a changeup that sat 74-77 mph with a max HM of 11.5 inches.
