Quick Hits: North Louisiana Rising Stars ID

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Ruston, LA - On Tuesday, June 17 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to Louisiana Tech University, to host our third rising stars event of the summer, which featured players in the 2029-2030 classes and served as an identifier for future invite-only events such as the Junior Future Games.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Vald Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion.  Pitchers finished the day off by throwing a bullpen with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Tuesday's event.

TOP PERFORMERS

Brodie Taylor 3B / RHP / West Monroe, LA / 2029

6-0, 182 lbs. frame with present physicality.  We don't see triple digit exit velocities often, especially from an incoming freshman, but that's exactly what Taylor produced on Tuesday.  Starting in a tall and narrow stance with the bat head cocked off his back shoulder, Taylor took a direct path down to contact while staying flat through extension with a two-handed finish.  He swung the bat with aggression and delivered a heavy barrel which produced exit velocities up to 103.1 mph.  There's obvious strength in the swing and present power to the pull-side of the field.  Taylor looks to have some of the best raw power that we've seen from the state's 2029 class.

James Gregory SS / RHP / Oak Grove High School, LA / 2029

Oak Grove is coming off of an impressive five straight state titles and they look to be reloading with young prospects like Gregory coming up.  The 5-10, 153 lbs. middle-infielder had a nice overall day at Tuesday's North Louisiana Rising Stars ID, as he finished at the top of several categories.  He posted the second-best 60 time at a 7.28 and the thrid-best infield velocity at 80 mph.  During batting practice, he showed a simple swing and fluid path that produced line drive contact through the middle of the field with a max exit velocity of 87.9 mph, which was good for third-best on the day.

Brylan Washington 3B / RHP / Parkway, LA / 2029

6-0, 194 lbs. strong frame with present physicality.  Washington was another young prospect that showed upside at Tuesday's event.  He recorded the top infield velocity across the diamond at 85 mph and was also 80-82 mph off the mound with a loose arm action.  At the plate, he starts in a more upright stance with rhythm in his hands before taking a short stride to get to center.  He then turns the barrel with an uphill path contact and extension to match, which produced exit velocities up to 95.9 mph, and there's likely more power in the swing when he learns how to fully use his lower-half to his advantage.

Will Walton 1B / LHP / Loyola College Prep, LA / 2029

5-11, 154 lbs. frame with long-limbs.  Walton showed one of our favorite swings on Tuesday.  The left-handed hitter starts in a wider base  with his hands at shoulder height and uses a no-stride load by lifting his front heel off the ground and then putting it right back down in the same spot.  This allows him to be extremely accurate with the barrel.  Walton gets his barrel on plane early and stays through the plane of each pitch to extension.  He repeated his swing well and drove the ball on a line through the middle of the field with a max exit velocity of 86.4 mph.

Brant Restovich OF / LHP / Loyola College Prep, LA / 2030

The future Loyola College Prep Flyer was another promising young prospect that we last saw at our New Orleans Rising Stars ID back in February.  Restovich showed an accurate and strong arm from the outfield for his age up to 82 mph.  He starts in an athletic and open stance at the plate, and varies between a toe-tap and "hover" type of load.  A left-handed hitter, Restovich showed present bat speed with the ability to drive the ball through the middle of the field with a max exit velocity of 84.1 mph.  The power should continue to trend up in the future as he fills out his lean and wiry 6-0, 143 lbs. frame.
