WIAA State Finals: Day One Recaps

No. 2 Sun Prairie East vs. No. 7 Muskego

Muskego would score early, with the first two base runners reaching base safely including an RBI base hit by C Maddux Lessard (2026) to give the Warriors an early lead in the top of the first.

INF Dean Staudacher (2025, Wabash Valley) would extend the lead to two on a RBI single to right field.

Both offenses would go quite until the fifth inning when Muskego would score two more runs courtesy of the long ball as OF Ben Kuglitsch (2026, Florida State) and OF Callen Tomsyck (2026) who each hit solo home runs during the inning, extending the Warriors lead to four runs.

Sun Prairie East would cut into the lead, scoring two runs on a RBI single from OF Camden Glusick (2027) to center field.

Muskego would continue to add to their lead in the top of the seventh as Tomsyck would drive in two more runs on two RBI triple to the deepest part of the park.

INF Carter Nicolato (2026) would push another run across in the seventh on a line drive to right field, bringing the Warriors lead to five runs.

RHP Tyson Grulkowski (2026, South Florida) tossed a complete game for the Warriors, striking out eight batters en route to the win as Muskego defeats Sun Prairie East and advances to the Division 1 semifinals on Wednesday.

No. 3 Hortonville vs. No. 6 Hartford

Hartford got on the board early in the first after the first two base runners reached base safely before INF Joe Landgraf (2025) drives in one run on a base hit to through the infield. A second run would score in the first on an error by the defense giving the Orioles a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.

The Polar Bears would cut into the lead quickly in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter C Turner Kuhnke (2025, Wisconsin-Milwaukee) found the barrel for a triple to right field. OF Kam Chronis (2025) would drive Kuhnke in on a sacrifice fly to right field cutting the lead to one run.

C Ethan Birkel (2025) would add another run in the top of the third on a base hit to right field, driving in INF Brady Helms (2026) who reached base on a hit by pitch.

Hartford would push another run across in the top of the fifth on a base hit by OF Kaiden Romens (2026), driving in Helms again who reached on a leadoff base hit to right field.

RHP/INF Carter Kutz (2025, Nebraska) would strike out 13 batters across seven innings, allowing two hits and walking two earning the win for the Orioles.

No. 1 Hudson vs. No. 8 Badger

The Badgers were in control throughout the game, getting hot right away in the first as the first five batters reached safely with RBI base hits from OF Matthew O’Grady (2026), Gavin Stewart (2025) and INF Ryan McCarthy (2025) bringing the score to 4-0 heading into the bottom of the first.

Hudson would cut the lead down to one in the bottom of the first on an INF/RHP Bennett Brathol (2025, Concordia St. Paul commit) RBI and a OF Steele Homme (2025) RBI triple to right field.

After going scoreless in the second and third INF Bradley McCarthy (2026) would lead off the fourth with a double to left field before finding his way around the bases to bring the lead to 5-3.

The Badgers would get hot once again in the fifth inning, scoring nine runs throughout the inning. RHP/1B Riley Lussmyer (2025, Milikin commit) got the bats started, driving in two runs on a base hit to center field extending the lead to four.

INF Brendan Kellar (2026) would add to the Badgers lead, driving in a run on a base hit to center field before INF Ryan Albanese (2026) would drive in a pair on a base hit to center field bringing the score to 10-3.

The next four batters would reach base safely with C Trent Ertmann (2025), O’Grady, and INF/RHP Gavin Stewart (2025, Kalamazoo commit) driving in runs on base hits. Ryan McCarthy would cap off the inning on a RBI double to left field.

Stewart would come on in relief for Lussmyer and record the final out to earn the save as Badger upsets Hudson 14-3.

No. 4 Sussex Hamilton vs. No. 5 Oak Creek

Sussex Hamilton would score first in the bottom of the first via a base hit by John Arnold (2026) after loading the bases on two walks and a base hit by Wes Spreng (2025).

The Chargers would load the bases again in the bottom of the second before Ryan Buchta induced a ground out to get out of the inning.

The Chargers would add on in the bottom of the third inning, with Luka Tusic (2025) driving in Nick Brauhn (2025; St. Thomas) who reached on a double.

The Chargers would add another two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, this time via a base hit by Ethan Hibicke (2025; Wisconsin-River Falls) that scored Nathan Glapa (2025; Wisconsin-La Crosse) and Wes Spreng (2025).

Hibicke would exit in the sixth after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings striking out six batters allowing only three hits.

Right-hander Jacob Osmanski (2026) would come on in relief and toss the final 1.1 innings allowing one run while earning the save.

Sussex Hamilton advances to the State Semifinals on Wednesday.
