Prep Baseball continued its summer evaluation season with multiple events at Broughton HS in Raleigh, NC on Saturday May 17th. These scout days allowed Prep Baseball scouts a chance to evaluate close to 100 North Carolina prospects, hailing from 3 triangle area programs. The Rawlings Prospects NC continued their tradition of giving their players a chance to update their player profiles with verified stats, analytics, and video. Players with full Prep Baseball profiles are able to build a history for college coaches and pro scouts while connecting with over 1000 schools that subscribe and use Prep Baseball's resources daily.
Players were run through a full pro-style workout with Prep Baseball Scouts recording stats, metrics, and evaluating the players throughout the evening. The workout began with a laser timed 60 yard dash. 10 yard splits were recorded using the VALD laser timing system as well. Hitters then went through multiple rounds of BP with TrackMan capturing ball flight data off the bat. Defensive workouts followed with each player working out at their defensive position, showcasing movement, arm path, release, carry and accuracy. The day finished with pitchers throwing bullpens where TrackMan was again recording the ball flight data out of the hand.
Prep Baseball will use this scout day as a "jumping off" point in our player coverage of Rawlings Prospects NC players. Along with the workout coverage, players will be followed in game play through the summer, fall, and into the spring of 2026. Players that go through these workouts are added to Prep Baseball's rankings database and will be considered for future rankings updates. Players also qualify for consideration for prestigious Prep Baseball events like the Future Games, NC/SC Border Battle, Super Sophomore Games, and Top Prospect Games.

TrackMan Pitching Metrics: Rawlings Prospects NC Scout Day
FASTBALL STATS
Peak Velocity
Average Effective Velocity
Effective velocity is taking into account the velocity of each pitch, its release distance, the pitches time to the plate / hitting area, and the pitches movement. With all of this information, Effective Velocity is allowing coaches and scouts to more accurately compare how a pitch is affecting a hitter.
Peak Spin Rate
Average Spin Rate
Average Induced Vertical Movement
Induced vertical movement tracks how the ball rides through the zone, or sinks through the zone. For the purpose of this board we are tracking which fastballs showed the most ride, typically leading to more swing and miss opportunities
Average Horizontal Movement
Horizontal movement is often referred to as run. This measurement does not distinguish between early and late movement, just the overall amount the ball tracks to the arm side out of the hand.
Peak Spin Score
The Spin Score is a measurement linking velocity and spin. It is calculated by dividing the spin rate by the velocity of each pitch.
CURVEBALL STATS
Peak Velocity
Peak Spin Rate
Average Spin Rate
Average Induced Vertical Movement
This is a measurement of how much the ball drops from its original position and trajectory. It does not measure how late the movement happens. This can be referred to as depth on a breaking ball.
