New England Diamond Notes: May 12-18

Striking out 19 is an amazing accomplishment, but to do it against the No. 1 team in Division II makes it even more impressive.

That is what Anthony Burt did for West Warwick in a 3-0 win over North Providence this week. The junior gave up four hits in the seven-inning win, upping his season record to 7-0.

Burt struck out the side five times and only one runner reached third base against the St. John’s commit. Two of the hits against the right-hander came in the seventh inning, but Burt proceeded to strike out the final three batters of the game.

Burt now has 77 strikeouts on the season in 40 innings while walking just six.

So who else had big weeks? Read on…
