May 8th: L Round 2 (6A)

Player Notes:

(No.7) Desert Vista vs. (No.6) Millennium

*Brock MacDonald, 2026 RHP, Desert Vista, Baylor Commit

Brock is a physical right hander with a competitive edge and a presence that elevates when the stakes are high. In the playoff win over Millennium, he tossed 5 dominant innings in relief, striking out 5 while allowing just 2 hits. MacDonald showed confidence in his full arsenal, relying more heavily on his secondary stuff than in previous outings, including a curveball at 75-78 and a sharp slider at 77-80, both spinning above 2700 RPMs. His fastball sat 88-90 and touched 92, with reports from the summer showing him up to 93. Brock’s ability to execute in pressure spots and his consistent track record of competing make him one of the more polished arms in Arizona’s 2026 class.

*Chase Fillman, 2028 OF/1B, Millennium, Uncommitted

Chase is a physically mature L/L who demonstrates a noticeable competitive spirit on the baseball field. In a recent playoff game against Desert Vista, this freshman secured two hits, one of which was a double in the bottom of the sixth inning. His offensive approach is characterized by its simple actions, leading into a swing that is both powerful and well controlled, complemented by a soft front side. While still in the developmental stages, his offensive actions indicate considerable present strength and bat speed, suggesting upticks in these areas as he matures. Defensively, Chase possesses the necessary attributes to remain viable at either a corner outfield position or 1B. His overall skillset points towards substantial future potential as he continues to develop physically and refine his game. As a legitimate two way prospect, Chase has also exhibited promising abilities on the pitcher's mound, with his fastball reaching speeds of up to 85 mph. This dual threat capability further elevates his standing as one of the most noteworthy freshmen in the state to follow closely.

*Seth Skinner, 2027 INF/RHP, Desert Vista, Uncommitted

Desert Vista's Seth Skinner is an athletic two way prospect from the 2027 class to watch in Arizona. In a key playoff bullpen appearance, the quick armed right hander pitched two innings, striking out four while allowing three hits. His fastball ranged from 85-87 mph, reaching 88 with life. He also featured a mid-70s slider and a developing 76-78 mph changeup. Skinner demonstrated intent and poise under pressure, helping his team maintain momentum. Showing pitchability and upside both on the mound and at the plate, he is a noteworthy prospect.

David Sheppard, 2025 LHP, Millennium, Uncommitted

David is a competitive left handed pitcher with a projectable 6 foot frame. During a playoff appearance against Desert Vista, he pitched 4.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts. He features a four pitch arsenal delivered from a high three-quarter arm slot with good direction and shoulder tilt. His fastball ranges from 85-86 mph, topping out at 87. He throws a changeup between 78-81 mph and two breaking balls: a slider (75-78 mph) that targets the back foot of right handed hitters and a slower, 12-6 curveball (72-75 mph) which worked well when it hit the back of the plate. David demonstrates an aggressive approach to hitters and exhibits potential for pitch sequencing, particularly off his fastball. With increased strength and improved command of his secondary pitches, he has the potential to develop into a dependable pitcher at the collegiate level.

Game Recap:

Desert Vista defeated Millennium 8-4. Ben Romaine led the Desert Vista offense, going 3-3 with three singles and an RBI. Samuel Skinner also had 3 hits, while Easton Foster and Jayden Garrison each had multiple hits. Brock MacDonald earned the win for Desert Vista, pitching 5 innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits with 5 strikeouts. Seth Skinner pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out 4. Chase Fillman had 2 hits and 2 stolen bases for Millennium.
